Eddie and I reflected on how many times we would have given out the number 13 11 14 over the years, both here in Colac, and also in Geelong. Hundreds, is all we can come up with, yet we have NOT had a comprehensive chat about what LIFELINE actual is, and does for those in need. We learn so much from Linda Holland, Community Engagement Coordinator & Suicide Prevention Services Coordinator (Lifeline) in the region, she is based in Warrnambool, however her role services the South West Victoria region. We are chatting again via zoom with: - Kay Widdicombe, who is the Allied Health Manager at Colac Area Health, and Nancy Donkers, whose husband Adrian has Alzheimer's. Nancy and her Son Michael are walking 1000 kms, each, in November to raise funds for Dementia Australia. Find them on Facebook to donate or go to https://fundraising.dementia.org.au/ and donate by clicking the "donate" button, the search for Nancy and/or Michael. An estimated 460,000 Australians are living with dementia. While Dementia Australia welcomes the $11.3 million for expert psychosocial supports, the lack of focus on dementia within a $115.5 billion budget in 2020-21 for health, aged care and sport, reveals that dementia is still not receiving the attention it deserves. https://www.dementia.org.au 1800 100 500
