What would it be like if you were never able to see the stars on a clear night or rarely got to feel the grass between your toes? For some kids living in cities, that’s a reality.
Fresh Air Fund has been spending the past 142 summers bringing New York City children together with volunteer host families in Pennsylvania.
Over the years, thousands of people in Pennsylvania have brought NYC boys and girls to their homes for a couple of weeks during the summer to experience small-town life.
Natalie Edwards, a host mother from Bellefonte, says she’s been hosting Jessica, a young girl from the Bronx, over the past 7 summers.
Fresh Air Fund is still looking for new host families who are ready to bring a child into their home for a week or two this summer.
First time Fresh Air children are boys and girls, from seven to 12 years old, who live in New York City, but many host families end up inviting the children back year after year, creating lifelong friendships.
If you’re interested in hosting a Fresh Air Child, visit www.freshair.org and spend your summer a little differently this year.
You only have 6 days left to come up with the perfect Valentine’s Day gift for your sweetheart.
Relationship expert Dr. Laura Berman says, it really is the thought that counts.
Nationwide shopping studies show the most common gifts include chocolates or other sweets, flowers, or a nice dinner out.
Yesterday was the opening day for the first medical cannabis dispensary in DuBois.
The Herbology Dispensary on South Brady Street, in the former Simpsons Communications building, saw heavy traffic yesterday. Some people with medical cards stopped in to pick up products and other people stopped just because they were curious and wanted to know more about medicinal cannabis.

DuBois is celebrating the kind of people who make the world a better place. Manda Shaw is being honored today with the Silver Ribbon Award, which is given each year to a professional who serves their community.
Manda Shaw works at Paris Companies in DuBois, but she also spends much of her time outside of work serving on several non-profit boards and volunteering with a variety of groups, including pastoral work at the hospital, benevolence work, and with the youth group at her church.

Bob Wachob, Jeff Baronick, and Joe Taylor talk about all of the delicious food available at the 2018 DuBois Community Days, Friday and Saturday, June 15 and 16 in the DuBois City Park. They also discuss why it's so important that all of the booths in the City Park this weekend are either non-profits or sponsors of the event.
For more than 100 years, DuBois Central Catholic has provided another option for students in our area to get an education in a family-like religious setting. DCC was honored as one of the Hometown Hope recipients from Steeple Furniture and Sunny 106, providing an advertising grant for local non-profits.
Joyce Taylor, public relations and alumni affairs coordinator at DuBois Central Catholic, says it all comes down to serving God.
However, one common misconception, she says, is that students have to be Catholic to attend the school. For this year, about 30 percent of students are not Catholic, and DCC welcomes students of all faiths.
Another common misconception is that all DCC families are wealthy. In fact, most families (about 70 percent) get some kind of financial assistance for their students to be at DCC.
Taylor says the students truly blossom when they come to the school because of the small setting and because everyone is included.
Steeple Furniture awarded the Hometown Hope grant to DCC for their outstanding commitment to the community and encouraging their students to give back. Many thanks to Steeple for yet again donating to a worthy, local cause!
Dr. Luke Lansberry discusses capacity at all of the schools, repairs that need done at Wasson and Oklahoma Elementary, the possibility of moving 5th graders to the middle school, a possible rebuilding of Wasson, the reasons behind it, and some concerns that parents have for their children.
The rovers fall again the the Kane Wolves ending their 2017 season. From the not-so-great on-field conditions to lack of execution on the offensive side of the ball, the Rovers fell 28-14.

Our Rovers stunned Ridgway this past Friday night with a t 24-21 victory. Coach Zocco is mighty proud of his players but know there is still improvement needed to become "scary good."
Coach Zocco uses the word "gritty" to describe his team both offensively and defensibly. Their trouble tackling has him worried...but he knows there is only one person to blame, himself. He discusses how his QB, Downer, grew within the last few minutes of the game by focusing on the "Rover mentality" and how we can not lose that next week for Curwensville.
Congrats to our Player of the Game-Jon Wood.
