this is such a sad and unjust situation but all of us can be duped by these covert narcissist and 20 years ago there wasn't much information or discussion about it so in hindsight we can criticize! even the best of church leaders make mistakes! I would hope today they would use better judgement and discernment! it seems the church failed this vulnerable woman!
21:36 - Command vs Counsel - very smart distinction!
Though I haven't suffered spiritual abuse in this manner, I appreciate hearing this testimony of how God has worked through and in this situation, to work healing in your own lives. This is preparing me for the day God places me in a position of counseling, should he choose to do so. Many thanks for this podcast!
1:15 - An appropriate moniker. My church is currently on the less forceful end of this spectrum, but our previous Pastor, in many ways, EMBODIED this phenomenon.
8:26 - I saw this exact thing happen in my church, leading up to its implosion two decades ago
37:15 - Excellent insight on vulnerability and love
35:21 - That's me, to a tee
27:27 - I SEE NOW!! This statement turnt on a HUGE lightbulb in my understanding of my church implosion in 2000 - my Pastor-Abuser was exposed by our LAY-ABUSERS. THANK YOU for your insights!!
23:48 - Hypervigilance REALLY IS a problem in these scenarios. And your statement on Trust is VERY true as well.
I just started listening at the recommendation of JC Groves. My experience with a manipulative narcissist Pastor parallels this greatly, though mine was never ousted, but was rather able to triangulate so as to effectively keep his position till retirement. Half my church saw the problem, and left. The rest of us, never had the guts to end the situation. I am struck by the fact that I'm now able to hear your story, and not get derailed about my trial like I used to. I feel for both of you.
This is a much-needed podcast to both expose the hidden works of darkness and also to bring empathy and compassion to those who suffer alone in silence. I praise God for this as I know it encourages and lifts up the downtrodden and aids in purifying the true Bride. My heart soars! Sing loud!
