Few Tang!!! I ain't gone talk y'all heads off. Keysha McDougal, The Hip Hop Mom, of  @s2tmedia38  Straight II Tape Podcast, inspired this episode. She posed a question online. She asked "What's the best Hip Hop opening line of all time?"...I don't know if we can tell what THE best opening line is (actually, I think I can), but I DO know we can tell you what's on OUR best opening line list. So let's get to i! Make room for the tag...#ConversateForAFew
FEW TANG CLAN!!! Welcome to the Terrordome! Nobody on the planet can possibly hate AI more than Drake right now. And Biggie is likely throwing ice down from Heaven trying to melt down AI servers. Artificial Intelligence is still novelty for many. The music industry though?!?! You better believe they're taking it seriously. To say Ai technology is moving quickly is a gross understatement, as evidence of impending, irreparable impact, is beginning to show. It feels a bit like the Napster era on a steroids, HGH, cocaine, molly and angel dust cocktail; with some crack sprinkled on top. The conversation is far more informative than the description would lead you to believe. We hope you enjoy listening to the convo as much as we enjoyed having it. FEW TANG CLAN! Dreamville Fest came and went. Some people had fun. Some people had work to do. And of course, some people had opinions. I heard quite a few complaints from various, seemingly unconnected people. The two issues I heard mentioned most were the lack of NC artist on the Dreamville Fest stage, and the lack of NC artists signed to Dreamville. Let's just say I met those opinions with resistance. We talked about my passionate online convo on this episode. I wanna say so much that I'm not going to write anything. I think we get it all out on the show. Make room for the tag...#ConversateForAFew
Few Tang!!! We saw evidence of it during the VERZUZ between The Lox and Dipset. If you were at Dreamville Fest or watched it on Amazon, we saw evidence when comparing Lil Durk's appearance and J.I.D.'s performance...I could name myriad examples, but I'm talking about the difference between a mere recording artist and a real emcee. It's rare to find a "popular" artist that performs a show WITHOUT a backing track. These bums are rapping over the lyrics they're supposed to be reciting. I don't know about y'all, but I'm not paying to SEE you while listening to the same exact song the play on the radio. I'm paying to see you PERFORM the song. Sadly, that's a dying art. We think they are several reasons emceeing is fading. We realize there's a clear line of delineation between a recording artist and an emcee. And we used this conversation to unpack it all. We hope y'all enjoy this convo as much a we did. Dig in! But FIRST...Make room for the tag. #ConversateForAFew
Few Tang Clan! Our music, our art, our beloved Hip Hop is under attack. The machines are COMING! Matter of fact, they're HERE! Artificial Intelligence is mimicking our favorite artists. No samples, no REAL use of an artist's voice. However, songs are being created that sound just like Eminem, Jay-Z, Lil Uzi Vert, Kendrick Lamar...anyone you can think of really. What does this mean for the music industry? What is Library of Congress doing about copyright laws? How will all of this work? We get into it. Dig in! But FIRST! Make room for the tag...#ConversateForAFew
FEW TANG CLAN!!! We got pissed off this week. They out here playing reindeer games with the culture. We stumbled across a vile example of appropriation. And you know us. FEW TANG! We decided to compile a list of the top 3 emcees for every era! Essentially, we decided who was the Kendrick, J-Cole or Drake of every era. Honestly we personally refer to BIG, Jay and Nas but nonetheless lol. Here's how we did it...We started with the year 1979; the year of the first official Hip Hop release. For the sake of this conversation, we decided an era equals around 6 years. We DID make a couple exceptions, and made a couple eras only 3 years long, as music was changing so rapidly during that time. We hope you enjoy this conversation as much as we did. FEW TANG CLAN!!! Walk down almost any street, in any city in America (or the World honestly), and you'll see evidence of Hip Hop. Not only will you see evidence of its existence, you'll likely see some form of its lifeblood. Whether it's in someone's fashion, the way a person walks, the altered, dare I say, coded language spoken in non-secretive conversations; you'll see and hear Hip Hop. We've all seen the "old head" on the Harley blasting RAKIM or LLCOLJ. And we've seen 12 year olds lose their minds to 808's and hi hats VERY similar to 808 and hi hat sounds we lost our minds to in the 80's. And no. It's not the same. Nor should it be. However, it is Hip Hop. And Hip Hop is multi-generational. Let's discuss...Make room for the tag. #CoversateForAFew #CFAF Subscribe to the Conversate For A Few YouTube and hit the notification bell! FEW TANG!!! ChatGPT and AI are all the tech world is talking about right now. And if AI is ringing bells in tech, you can rest assured it will bring the noise to Hip Hop and the music industry next. What's going to happen when record labels get ahold of it? We know they already tried to give us an AI artist. Is art even "art" if created by artificial intelligence? How about AI-assisted art? The bigger question is, will y'all/we accept it? There's a ton to unpack, so make room for the tag...#ConversateForAFew Subscribe to the Conversate For A Few YouTube and hit the notification bell! Few Tang! What say you? Is crossing over in Hip Hop acceptable? What exactly does crossing over mean to you? Are crossing over and selling out synonymous? We think the answers to those questions will vary based on age and/or what era of Hip Hop you gained "musical morals". Some may say those morals are developed due to increased cynicism. We get into that, we answer those questions and so much more. Welcome to a thoughtful and in-depth conversation about Hip Hop. We hope you enjoy listening as much as we enjoyed having the conversation. Few Tang...We're losing artists at an alarming rate. This era is proving to be the most dangerous time in the history of emceeing. When did things begin to get so bad? Who's fault is it? And ultimately, are record labels responsible for better protecting their investments? The question may seem simple. And the answer may seem obvious. But this topic spurred a deeper discussion than either of us imagined. We hope y'all enjoy this conversation as much as we enjoyed having it. Welcome to your 1st Annual Conversate For A Few Awards. On the Grammys you win a Grammy. On the Oscars win an Oscar. On Conversate For A Few...you win AFew. We gave out AFew for everything from album of the year to who took the biggest L in Hip Hop. This ep features special guest Jay Sealey and David Varnadoe. As usual, we're dumb thorough with each topic. If you think our choices are wrong, fight us LOL! Can't wait to hear your opinion. Make room for the tag...#ConversateForAFew
FEW TANG CLAN!!! We're back with a special episode! We wanna introduce y'all to TOP TWO...SelfMade Nuski & D-Wash are less a group and more Brothers with a like vision and comparable hustle. They know their Hip Hop so we get into tons of topics; violence in today's music, their opinion on record deals, image vs authenticity, to name a few. And we STILL found time to talk about their upcoming project! This a good one y'all. We hope you enjoy listening to the conversation as much as we enjoy having it. Few Tang!!! We BACK! This week we’re paying our respects to the legacy of DJ Drama and his legendary, Gangsta Grillz mixtape series. Nearly every artist you can think of either had, or wanted a Gangsta Grill in their catalog. Drama’s mixtape series has launched and extended artists’ careers. It has added validity to others. And has now become the backbone of a Grammy winning album. I guess it’s safe to say, Holiday Season has returned. We hope you enjoy listening to this conversation as much as we enjoyed having it. What’s good Few Tang Clan?!? It was all a dream!…That’s what Biggie said at least. Little did we know how true that statement would be all these years later. See…we’re STILL out here having Hip Hop arguments about who’s the king of NY. Our thinking is BIG wouldn’t have sanctioned this. THIS ain’t even what BIG meant; we don’t think so anyway. Maybe it’s true. A lie spreads faster than the truth. We hope y’all enjoy listening to this conversation as much as we enjoyed having it. What's good Few Tang Clan! This week we're talking about something we're all experiencing. However, many of us may not know the foolishness we're witnessing is on purpose and done WITH purpose. Artists, companies and brands are all using outrage marketing to gain attention, in hopes for flipping that attention for profit. It goes; make a mess, make an apology, reap the benefits of exposure to your new audience while your core audience rallies behind you. Of course we take it back for historical reference and walk the convo up to current times. This talk was long overdue.... Few Tang! We're back with our second installment discussing, the Kanye West doc. Jeen-Yuhs. This time we have our first guest, HipHopMom, Keysha McDougal of the Straight II Tape Podcast. She's a Hip Hop HEAD. You hear me?!? And her perspective is dope. We were excited to hear her view on the doc and what she was left with ultimately. This a good one y'all.
