Serious over-thinking is different to an ear-worm though: at its worst, it goes round and round (like a record – sorry, I had to!) in your mind and it can distract you from rational thought which moves you forward. That’s what we’re talking about this week: why it happens, and what to do about it. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thecavesconversation/message

This is Episode 3 and this week I’m talking about self-awareness. I’ll be discussing what self-awareness is, why it matters and, most importantly, how to become more self-aware every day. So, let’s talk all about it! --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thecavesconversation/message
“It’s the small habits. How you spend your mornings. How you talk to yourself. What you read. What you watch. Who you share your energy with. Who has access to you. That will change your life.” --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thecavesconversation/message
“There’s no ‘should’ or ‘should not’ when it comes to having feelings. They’re part of who we are and their origins are beyond our control. When we can believe that, we may find it easier to make constructive choices about what to do with those feelings.” --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thecavesconversation/message
[Mental health] recovery is not the same as a cure. Recovery means being able to create and live a meaningful life and contribute to your community, with or without mental health issues. Recovery is about all of your life, not just your symptoms. It involves: finding hope, and developing self-esteem and resilience; having a sense of purpose and meaning in your life; building healthy relationships; [and] gaining independence.” --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thecavesconversation/message
“There is a sacredness in tears. They are not the mark of weakness, but of power. They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues. They are the messengers of overwhelming grief, of deep contrition, of unspeakable love.” --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thecavesconversation/message
Opinions. Everybody’s got one, and a lot of people think that their’s are the only ones that matter! Which is fine, and each to their own, however there’s a huge difference between constructive opinions vs. destructive opinions; today, I’m going to be focusing on the negative effects of destructive opinions alongside the positive effects of constructive opinions.  --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thecavesconversation/message
regrets will eat away at you if you let them, but they serve no useful purpose other than to show us what to do differently in the future. You cannot change the past, only learn from it. If you made a mistake: learn the lesson you need to learn, put things right and forgive yourself… then get on with living your life, one day at a time and with your eyes forward, instead of constantly looking back over your shoulder. Treat yourself with kindness and compassion, and choose to live a life where you reject regrets and, instead, embrace personal growth. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thecavesconversation/message
Fear. It’s one of the most basic survival instincts we have – it’s what helped our ancestors to know when it was time to run so they wouldn’t be eaten by a sabre-tooth tiger or one of the other thousands of giant things that were trying to have them for dinner. As our lifestyles have evolved over the centuries and millennia, we’ve moved beyond the need to be constantly ‘on alert’ in order to survive, however for a lot of us that instinct – the ‘fight, flight or freeze’ response – can be over-active, or it can be hard to push through it so that we can do things that challenge us. Today we’re going to discuss how to get past fear so you can live your life to the fullest. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thecavesconversation/message
We all have that little voice inside our head that tells us when we’re doing well or where we might need to do better. But when that voice becomes overly critical and belligerent, you need to remember that you don’t have to put up with that crap – take control and stop giving that voice power. Good mental health takes daily effort, and if you’ve had difficulties with negative self-talk then know that it is absolutely possible to turn it around with continued practice, and taking it one day at a time. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thecavesconversation/message
When stress gets out of control, however, and you feel constantly nervous or on edge, then it can be utterly exhausting, and if it goes on for more than just a few days then it can cause long-term damage to both your mental and your physical health. That’s why dealing with stress is so important because it’s bad for your health and there is absolutely no sugarcoating that fact, so let’s be clear – too much stress can kill you. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thecavesconversation/message
This week we’re talking about baggage – what emotional baggage is, why we can sometimes become weighed down by unresolved stuff from our past, and how to work through it so you’re not carrying it around for the rest of your life. So, let’s talk! Let me just take a moment here to say what ‘dealing with baggage’ isn’t about. It isn’t about just sucking it up or getting over it. It isn’t just about saying “it is what it is” and thinking that you’re all done with your baggage. And it’s not something that you just do once and tick off your list – it’s a journey, not just a destination. And yes that’s a cliché and no I don’t care, because every cliché is grounded in truth and has something to teach us. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thecavesconversation/message
What things do you do every day to look after your physical, mental and spiritual health? What do you do to relax? And what things do you do to relax that might not be in your best interests? We all have control over what we do every day to look after our health and wellbeing, and it’s the choices we make and how highly we value the need for self-care that can determine what happens next in our life. Today I’m going to be talking about what self-care is (and isn’t), what effective self-care looks and feels like, why self-care plays such an important role in our lives, and some of the things you can do every day to maintain or improve your mental health and wellbeing. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thecavesconversation/message
Does mental health matter within the kingdom of God?This episode seeks to briefly explore the nature of the relationship between contemporary concerns about mental health and the mission, ministry and teaching of Jesus about the kingdom of God within the synoptic Gospels. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thecavesconversation/message
