As rap lyrics increasingly move from albums into courtrooms, prosecutors and defense attorneys are confronting a difficult question: when is a verse artistic expression, and when is it evidence? In this episode of Night Watch, Katie Ring examines a series of high-profile cases involving Fetty Wap, Young Thug, YNW Melly, and more – tracing how these artists and their music became central to federal indictments, RICO prosecutions, and murder trials. Welcome to Crime House 24/7. Prosecutors allege that 32-year-old Nick Reiner killed his parents inside their Brentwood, Los Angeles home on December 14, 2025, and have charged him with two counts of first-degree murder with special circumstances — making the case potentially death penalty eligible. Vanessa is joined by attorney and legal analyst Kelly Hyman to break down what prosecutors must prove in a first-degree murder case with special circumstances, how California’s death penalty moratorium affects charging decisions, and what role mental health history could play in potential defenses such as insanity or competency challenges. They also discuss jury selection in high-profile cases, plea deal possibilities, and the legal milestones ahead — from preliminary hearings to a potential trial. The constant cushioning of saying SA instead of just saying sexual assault. In my opinion it is totally unnecessary. If someone is making the decision to listen to a true crime podcast. They should be able to tolerate hearing the words sexual assault. I support sensitivity to anyone having suffered a sex crime. But simply saying the words isn't victimizing anyone. it just makes it confusing. Constantly saying SA'ed isn't saving anyone's feelings. it just sounds ridiculous.

You are stating well know facts incorrectly. Had to stop listening when you said the ransom note was found on the kitchen counter. Wtf? It was found on the spiral staircase. Facts are important.
