Each of them has brought their own vulnerabilities, weaknesses, and heartache to this very human tale about finding love in pain and light in the darkness. In the not so distant future, the sun is dying and the best scientists from around the globe are gathered along with their families, to inhabit a research station on the far side of the moon: Helios 1. Reluctantly, Neil allows his young daughter, Selene, to become friends and connect with Nero. Their bond grows through the years and Selene becomes his only connection to the outside world. A love grows between them while her father seeks answers to Nero’s condition, all while keeping his existence secret from Earth. Many years later, Helios 1 is forced to shut down and its inhabitants are required to return to Earth. Yet not all its inhabitants return. The Last Session vol. 1: Roll for Initiative was a fantastic graphic novel and it's great to see this world revisited, even if it's with a new cast of characters. Jasmine and Dozer are incredible creators and collaborators and it's great to hear them talk about the fun, but also the challenges, of this sequel. There were some issues with Jasmine's audio (the joys of podcasting!) so apologies if things seem a little choppy this episode, but this is definitely worth it. Jimmy and Meghan chat about the origins of the term "Mary Sue", the value in fan fiction, how much of Meghan is in the character of Cassie, TV shows that were cancelled too soon, and, of course, Meghan's time in the Supernatural writer's room. Meghan penned the episodes "Peace of Mind" (Season 14) and "Drag Me Away (From You)" (Season 15). From the Publisher: Despite what her mom thinks, Cassie has lots of friends—they just all happen to be online, where she can talk to them about her beloved favorite show, Riverview, and get their feedback on her fan fic WIP, starring Jessica, her very own hot vampire OC. But her fic writing persona is revealed to the entire school when her former best friend finds it and can’t resist reading some of it out loud to their classmates. Cassie thinks things can’t get more humiliating, until her very own Mary Sue pops right out of her fic to save the day—or make it much, much worse. If you find yourself at the center of the Venn diagram of comic book nerds and Shakespeare nerds, this is definitely the episode for you! Amy Chase returns to the podcast to talk about ABUZZ, her new Maverick graphic novel with artist Stelladia that is a modern retelling of Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing. I've had a chance to read an advanced copy and it's phenomenal! It's such a clever update and Stelladia's art is amazing. Plus ABUZZ is colored by Ellie Wright and lettered by Taylor Esposito. Amy talks about how she thought someone should make this book for a long time until she finally decided to do it herself. We talk about our love of Shakespeare, other adaptations of Much Ado, centering Claudio and Hero in the story, getting Bea and Ben's dialogue just right, and the importance of queer representation. This is such a great conversation. I know you're going to love it. ABUZZ is coming from Maverick on November 18th. Order ABUZZ From the Publisher: Shakespeare’s beloved romcom Much Ado About Nothing gets a modern update with an LGBTQ cast and the same classic miscommunications! Feuding senior students Ben and Beatriz drag half of Messina High into their never-ending arguments, making things difficult as budding sweethearts Hero and Claudio are asked to pick sides in the battle. All the while, the bad kids, led by outcast DJ, are plotting to capitalize on the chaos and rule the school for themselves. With college letters and prom night on the horizon, will these students find their happy ending or feel the sting of total rejection?
