True Sunlight co-hosts Mandy Matney, Liz Farrell— and everyone’s favorite attorney Eric Bland — talk about the latest fraud in the Lowcountry, what Al Capone has to do with the Murdaugh case and the very big punch Eric and his law partner are planning to lob back at Alex Murdaugh’s attorneys, Dick Harpootlian and JIm Griffin. On today’s episode, we started out by talking about a Beaufort woman who allegedly used Sandy Smith and her efforts to get answers about Stephen’s death as a way to defraud people out of money. It’s a really bizarre story but one that unfortunately has become familiar to us in the past two years with people attaching themselves to the Murdaugh case in self-serving ways. But also it reminded us of Alex Murdaugh himself. This woman was able to leverage her power and position in the community as a way to allegedly steal money that was meant to go to people in need or toward causes like Sandy’s. Liz and Mandy's former co-workers Delayna Earley and Mike McCombs investigated this case. You can read more about it on The Island News’ website.  Liz, Eric and Mandy tackle a number of topics today, including our continued concern over the federal government’s role in the Murdaugh case and whether it’s just a way to contain and manage any investigations into whatever it is that Alex and his co-conspirators were into in the Lowcountry. Also, Eric shared a bit a news about what he and his law partner plan to do next in their battle with Dick and Jim. It’s been another week full of twists and turns in the Alex Murdaugh story. With each new development in this case, we’re getting to see the inner workings of the justice system and how it just simply works better for certain people. The first plea deal has been struck in Alex Murdaugh’s web of crime and corruption. Former attorney Cory Fleming, who was Murdaugh’s best friend — and godfather to Buster Murdaugh — has agreed to cooperate with the federal government and provide information in exchange for leniency. Murdaugh Murders Podcast hosts Mandy Matney, Liz Farrell and everyone’s favorite attorney Eric Bland — discuss the latest in the Murdaugh Murders saga, as well as how clients can protect themselves from lawyers like Alex and Cory. We’re asking people — specifically those who have had cases with PMPED and other related law firms — to request copies of their files and to CHECK their disbursement sheets and expense sheets to see if there’s anything questionable on there. Sometimes you have to take matters into your own hands and at Luna Shark that’s what we’re all about. Let’s get into it! Dick Harpootlian and Jim Griffin are at it again! Murdaugh Murders Podcast hosts Mandy Matney, Liz Farrell and everyone’s favorite attorney Eric Bland — talk about the latest nonsense from Alex Murdaugh’s camp and why the South Carolina Supreme Court seems to be allowing his attorneys to use the court system to exact personal revenge against Eric and the Satterfield family. Mandy Matney, Eric Bland and Liz Farrell talk about lessons learned at the recent victims’ rally in Columbia, South Carolina; the latest ruling against Alex Murdaugh and his attempts to take money away from victims; and the problems with legislator-attorneys. In today's episode we dive deeper into a topic that’s always on our mind: Victims' rights. And not just victims’ rights but how our Justice system treats victims across the board. Which is not good.  Over the past few years, we've heard story after story about how victims have been disregarded, not listened to and flat out ignored.  It’s disheartening and it needs to change.  Eric and Mandy were recently at the annual Victims Rally on the Statehouse steps. It was yet another reminder of how important it is that we all work together, make more noise about the things we see that are wrong and do everything we can to empower victims.  Without victim empowerment, the system doesn’t stand a chance at changing.  Now, let’s get into it … Find us on social media: Twitter.com/mandymatney - Twitter.com/elizfarrell - Twitter.com/theericbland https://www.facebook.com/cupofjustice/ YouTube Please consider sharing your support by leaving a review on Apple at the following link: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/cup-of-justice/id1668668400 *The views expressed on the Cup of Justice bonus episodes do not constitute legal advice. Even from prison, convicted murderer Alex Murdaugh manages to further traumatize his victims. This time it’s the Satterfield family. On today’s episode of Cup of Justice we talk about one of the most upsetting things to have happened since Alex Murdaugh was sentenced to life in March. Murdaugh Murders Podcast co-hosts Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell — and everyone’s favorite attorney Eric Bland — discuss Murdaugh’s admission that he lied about how Gloria Satterfield died and what that means, and what it DOESN’T mean, for the case. They also delve into male egotism, prison romance and why Jim Griffin and Dick Harpootlian might still be slumming it. Last week, Alex filed a response to the federal case that was filed against him by one of the two insurance companies in the settlement that was supposed to go to the Satterfield family — which totalled $4.3 million. In that filing he admitted to lying about the dogs tripping Gloria. The fallout from that was the suggestion that the Satterfield family might have to pay back the money they received as a result of Alex’s admitted legal malpractice and the alleged legal malpractice of the family’s attorney at the time, Alex’s best friend Cory Fleming. In other words, the solution to Alex’s admitted crime — in his and his supporters’ eyes — is for Nautilus to go after the family who was swindled by him. Because our co-host Eric Bland and his partner Ronnie Richter are the ones who helped the Satterfield family be made whole, you better believe Eric was fired up in this episode. There’s always something to talk about with him … let’s get into it! If there’s one thing we’ve all learned over the past two weeks it’s that South Carolina’s justice system is nowhere near fixed. Far too often, it seems like those in positions of power are choosing to do what’s good for them individually over what’s good for public safety. This is a theme that we noticed long before the murders of Maggie and Paul Murdaugh and it’s a topic we will continue to tackle as we look to shine massive amounts of light into the darkest corners of this country, right where crime and corruption meet. So much drama has happened since we last talked. The state Supreme Court ordered Jeroid Price back to prison. Predictably, the “Godfather” of the Bloods gang in South Carolina failed to turn himself in after the state Supreme Court ordered him back to prison last week and remains on the run. This week, Mandy, Liz, & Eric and I discuss the latest in the Jeroid Price case and how — no matter how many times we point it out — the state’s justice system keeps on showing us just how little it thinks of victims. Now it’s everyone’s mess to clean up. And we have a lot to say about that. Let’s get into it... Happy Monday, y’all! We have always talked about the Murdaugh case in terms of “Monsters” being around every corner — meaning, that back when Liz and Mandy started reporting this case in 2019, it seemed like every new bit of information led to a monster. Another rabbit hole to go down. This week we were reminded that those monsters don’t just exist in the Murdaugh world. This week, we couldn’t wait to talk about the Jeroid Price case.  Price — a convicted murderer and alleged "godfather" of the SC bloods who was just starting year 20 of his 35-year sentence — hired a high-powered legislator-lawyer who was somehow able to broker a secret deal with a solicitor and a retiring judge that allowed for his early release. And it seems like they told no one about this … not the Department of Corrections, not law enforcement and, most importantly, not the victims, the family of Carl Smalls Jr. who was killed by Price in 2002.  Of course, right after we put our Cups Down on Thursday, more breaking news happened so this episode is a little longer than normal with an extra 30 minutes starting around the 52 minute mark.  Let’s get into it … Find us on social media: Twitter.com/mandymatney - Twitter.com/elizfarrell - Twitter.com/theericbland https://www.facebook.com/cupofjustice/ YouTube Please consider sharing your support by leaving a review on Apple at the following link: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/cup-of-justice/id1668668400 *The views expressed on the Cup of Justice bonus episodes do not constitute legal advice. Co-hosts Mandy, Liz and Eric are joined by a very special guest (and longtime listener of MMP and CoJ) … Sheryl Crow!!  The Grammy-award winning singer and songwriter shares her thoughts on the Murdaugh case, getting justice for Stephen Smith and what she hopes the future will look like for the next generation as more people speak up against the injustices in their lives. Sheryl is not only a Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter, she’s a big fan of fighting for what’s right and, much to our surprise when the trial ended, she has followed the Murdaugh case from the beginning.  Cups up, y’all! Happy Monday, y’all. We have some really good news to share with you today. On Friday, the body of Stephen Smith was exhumed and taken to Florida for a second autopsy. His mother, Sandy, waited nearly eight years for this moment to come.  It was a very emotional day but also a peaceful one. Sandy could feel the love and knew her boy was in good hands. We want to again thank all of you who donated to Sandy’s GoFundMe. You helped make this happen and I feel confident that we are now well on our way to getting answers — whatever those answers may be. We also want to thank SLED Chief Mark Keel and every agent who took the time Friday to connect with Sandy, who kept everyone safe and protected during the exhumation and who accompanied Stephen’s body to the autopsy. And thank you too to forensic pathologist Dr. Michelle DuPre for your empathetic and professional approach. You put everyone at ease during a difficult time. This independent exhumation and autopsy were critical because of how the investigation into Stephen’s death was conducted and all the questions surrounding his case. The system had given Sandy no reason to trust in it. Investigators needed to start at Square One and this gets them there. These are just the first steps to finding out why Stephen Smith was found dead on a Hampton County road in 2015 but they are really good first steps. Liz, Eric and Mandy got together online Sunday morning to talk about how the exhumation went, the strange drama surrounding it and what comes next. We also found a little time to talk about the latest with Alex Murdaugh and his life in prison.  There was a lot to say, so let’s get into it … We all want to drink from the same Cup Of Justice — and it starts with learning about our legal system. Well, y’all, this was a BIG week. Right after our last Cup of Justice episode was published, Eric’s law firm Bland Richter announced they will be representing Sandy Smith in her mission to finally get answers about Stephen’s death. Within a day of announcing this partnership, SLED chief Mark Keel called Eric and told him that his agency believes that Stephen was NOT hit by a car but rather was murdered and that SLED is devoting more resources to finding out who killed Stephen. I cannot express how emotional and bittersweet it has been this past week. I’m so happy for Sandy, Stephanie, the Smith family and everyone who knew and loved Stephen in that they finally have a fighting chance at getting some answers.  But this took FAR TOO LONG. No family should have to work this hard to get law enforcement to acknowledge the truth about how their loved one died.  Now that we’re here, though, we’re ready to see some much-deserved JUSTICE for Stephen Smith. So lets get into it... We'd like to thank Better Help for sponsoring this episode. And a big shout out to Rabia and Ellyn Solve the Case - Mandy recently sat down with this amazing duo and we'll be sharing parts of that interview with the COJ audience soon.  We all want to drink from the same Cup Of Justice — and it starts with learning about our legal system. In BREAKING NEWS - Eric Bland and Ronnie Richter have been retained by Sandy Smith to help her get Justice for Stephen. Mandy joins Sandy and Eric in a press Conference today, Monday March 20th at 8:30am on the Bland Richter Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/blandrichter  Now that Alex Murdaugh will spend the rest of his life in prison for the murders of Maggie and Paul, it’s time to put the focus on getting answers in the Stephen Smith case. For almost eight years, Sandy Smith has fought to get answers about her son’s murder. Whether or not Alex Murdaugh had anything to do with Stephen Smith’s death, the Murdaugh name is connected to the case in some way. Our greatest hope right now is that the momentum from the murder trial and the powerhouse duo of Bland & Richter encourages people to come out of the shadows to finally speak up and say what they know about Stephen’s murder in 2015. In this episode, we talk about the reasoning behind the exhumation and how private exhumations work. Smith's family believes he was murdered, and they want an unbiased look at his body and an accurate determination of his cause of death based on facts. At the date of this release the Go Fund Me has raised over $61,000.  We also catch up on Russell Laffitte’s attempt to use Alex Murdaugh’s witness stand exoneration as grounds for a new trial. And we take a look at ways community members can help get answers in cold cases. Murdaugh Murders Podcast co-hosts Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell — and everyone’s favorite attorney Eric Bland — talk about the next steps in the Smith case and how people can get answers in cases that have gone cold. We all want to drink from the same Cup Of Justice — and it starts with learning about our legal system. What questions do y’all have for us? One week after Alex Murdaugh was sentenced to life for killing his wife and son, Murdaugh Murders Podcast co-hosts Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell — and everyone’s favorite attorney Eric Bland — take a look at the questions surrounding a juror’s connections to a witness, the problems with the judicial selection process in South Carolina and the need for reform and Russell Laffitte’s overdue bills. It’s been over a week since Alex Murdaugh was sentenced to two consecutive life terms for killing his wife and son, and there hasn’t been a break in the news. On Monday, federal Judge Richard Gergel denied Russell Laffitte’s motion for a new trial. Now his case moves to the appeals phase, which Russell will go through without the help of his original attorneys Bart Daniel and Matt Austin because on Thursday Bart and Matt filed a motion to dump Russell. Apparently Alex’s co-conspirator hasn’t paid the balance of his legal bill at Nelson Mullins. According to our amazing co-host Eric Bland, Russell will be sentenced in May or June of this year and, after reading Judge Gergel’s scathing order Monday, we’re all expecting he’ll receive a significant punishment.  We have a really interesting show for you today. We talked about the unwarranted criticism surrounding James the Juror and his connection to the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office, Dick Harpootlian’s Good Ole Boy fragility and the need for judicial reform in this state. Murdaugh Murders Podcast co-hosts Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell and everyone’s favorite attorney Eric Bland share their thoughts on why newcomers to the case seem to be buying into the act from Team Murdaugh, how Dick and Jim might be coming off to the jury and why all three Cup of Justice co-hosts are more convinced than ever that the evidence is pointing to Alex Murdaugh. Great talk with Sheryl! I'm glad to hear someone else say what I've been thinking....so many parallels with the former president. Also, Bone Valley is just as good as Sheryl described. The injustice in Leo's case is maddening. ☹️

"Sandy deserved to be able to grieve without media", says Eric Bland, while Mandy & Liz murmur their approval 🙄 But the whole shebang was video recorded by a private videographer to which Sandy has full rights (and will sell) while Mandy shares pictures. All of you are incredibly transparent and a perfect example of what NOT to be. PS I'm just wondering if I'm one of the bots and paid trolls that Mandy & Liz is speaking of? Because I'm very real and I think it's not wise to be speaking of or inciting violence towards any person. Im not surprised by the behaviour,, You both are known for it,, but it is very surprising the lawyer sitting beside you allowed it and it wasn't edited out. Ashlee Satterfield - Mcc.

Serial killers kill 3 or more people with a significant time between kills. AM is a family annihilator.

DH gives me the creeps, I bet he has some murky secrets he wants to keep. The fact that he is honoured to represent a man who has admitted stealing from grieving parents, children and from a paraplegic tells me all I need to know about him. No morals, no integrity.

the state made a big mistake asking him over and over about the money he stole. it gave him multiple chances to state he was wrong and say he is sorry. all this did is make it easier for jurors to say yes he's a snake in the grass but that doesn't make him a murderer.

He certainly wasn't taking slimming pills 😂. Seriously, though could he be being blackmailed and Paul found dirt on him? Wh did he pick Pauls phone up, to wipe texts/pics? Dick.. The perfect name for Mr H. He's such a tool, I bet there's a ton of dirt on him which is why he's helping his creep friend now??

Listening to the witness state over and over that the firm had to pay back money that was stolen by AM and deposited into a fake account was great. The jury may forget some things but they will never forget what he did or the huge amounts of funds involved.
