Description

"All History is current; all injustice continues on some level, somewhere in the world."
-Alice Walker

Do you ever wonder exactly how things got this bad? Racism, misogyny, disease, the death of our planet-- how did no one see this coming? (Answer: many people did). More importantly though, what can we do to stop it?

Cursed History is a bi-weekly podcast that explores the past to get answers to these questions. The pieces of history interlock like a horrible 4D Rubik's Cube, creating a cause-and-effect chain that extends from early civilization to today.

Long before Dracula, vampires captured the imagination and fears of humanity. But sometimes the monsters were real, and they were often powerful in the most classic of ways: they were stupidly rich. Enter Countess Erzebet Bathory, the Blood Countess of Hungary. This week kick back and relax while Marley and MJ go over the fact—and fiction—behind one of the most famous “vampires” in history.
Bonnie and Clyde achieve their dreams of fame and notoriety before coming to a tragic end. Marley and MJ discuss the lives and legacy of the infamous couple in the second half of this two-part episode.
How did these two crazy kids find each other? Marley and MJ discuss the early lives of Bonnie and Clyde before they were infamous. Part two will be out next week!

Marley and MJ tell a tale as old as time.
Marley and MJ talk Victoria's presidential bid, brief stock broker career, and other glass (and concrete, and reinforced steel) ceilings that Victoria broke in her unusual and inspiring life.
Join Marley and MJ for the fascinating life story of the first woman to run for president in the United States...fifty years before women could even vote. One hundred years ago this week, the 19th Amendment was ratified, finally giving women in the U.S. the right to vote. We talk women's suffrage, Victoria Woodhull's crusade for women's autonomy in all things, and what the spiritualist movement had to do with the fight for the vote. This is part one of a two part episode. Part two will be out the following Friday.

Under the Spell is a series of bonus minisodes about the portrayal of historical events in popular culture. Since the proshot version of Hamilton, the runaway hit Broadway musical, is going to be available to stream starting July 3rd, we thought we'd take this opportunity to chat about the criminally overlooked Eliza Hamilton, wife of the titular Alexander Hamilton. Eliza Hamilton was an accomplished activist and philanthropist and her story is worth telling, too.  Future minisodes can be accessed by pledging at Patreon!  twitter: cursed_history insta: cursed.history patreon: patreon.com/cursedhistory
