You may or may not be using multi factor authentication – which sends a unique code to your phone every time you log into company websites, email accounts and cloud services – but if you’re not, you really should be. To understand why, we go to Ohio’s Bazetta township, which lost more than $100,000 to cybercriminals after the township fiscal officer’s Microsoft Office 365 account was hacked. It was an all-too-familiar story: thieves used the officer’s email account to send an official-looking message advising new account details that were used for transfers from the only person overseeing the town’s funds. Here’s the kicker: the email account was previously secured using MFA – but the fiscal officer admitted to asking for the extra layer of authentication to be turned off. No wonder cybersecurity authorities around the world continually talk about the importance of MFA. Whether or not you find it inconvenient, learning to live with MFA is the best way to protect your email and other accounts – and it should be mandatory for every business account. The 60-second "Security Nudge" is brought to you by CybSafe, developers of the Human Risk Management Platform. Learn more at https://cybsafe.com
