David Hernandez started loving poetry as a student here. Many years later, he became a finalist for one of the most prestigious awards as an author: a National Book Critics Circle Award. Hernandez talks about his book, his journey through poetry, how he writes a good poem, and what it means to be a teacher.

In society, our identities matter. Our identities impact the way that we navigate the world. They are a lot more complicated than simply labels we check off on surveys. And sometimes, figuring out exactly which ones to check off can be a task that’s easier said than done. Host Morgan Barela explores the topic of white passing, including her personal experiences as a white passing person of color.

I bet you think you’re a good person. But what does it mean to be good? Is your definition of good the same definition as ours? Is good measured by the acts we do or is it by how nice we are?
