Description

DJ Step - Drum and Bass Podcast. DJ Step (Stephen Lynch) was a Drum & Bass DJ playing nightclubs in Auckland, New Zealand between 1997 - 2003. This is just a small selection of more than 60 live vinyl mixes he released on CD between 2000-2003. These reflected the different styles he enjoyed playing out at clubs at the time. He played liquid styles (he co-hosted a regular weekly Thursday night called "Low Key Movements" at The Supper Club), and also played full-on dance floor sets (at clubs like Fu Bar, Crow Bar, Split, Galatos, and Motion). DJ Step (Stephen Lynch) says, "I admire DJ's who know how to select tunes that complement each other, who can mix smoothly and subtly, and who create a unique listening experience inside the mix. That's what I always aimed for in my sets. I hope you like them. Thanks for listening."

Full spectrum mix
Full spectrum. Check the last 30 minutes for a storming finish! Woo hoo!
Low Key Movements mix. Liquid styles.
Full spectrum dancefloor mayhem
Vocal tunes of various styles
One of my early mixes.
My last ever mix. A big dark banging mix with a few classics thrown in. I threw this mix down the day before I sold my turntables, mixer, and took all my crates of records down to the shop to be sold. It was time to begin a new chapter in my life - and in order to begin something new, you have to let go of the old to make room for it. I feel a bit sad sometimes when I hear the last haunting tune fade out. I miss the performing aspect, but I will always love the music.
Full spectrum styles.
A mix played out at Club Motion in Hamilton NZ
The first mix I released to the public. Starting to find my style. A combination of soft vocals with hard tunes.
Warm up set. I was the 1st DJ up on this night - Starts out mellow and cruises along. Gets steadily more raucous as the mix goes on
Full spectrum dancefloor mix
Warm up set. I was the first DJ up that night. A great mix to kick the night off.
Dancefloor mix. Starts off with some pop music bootlegs (Missy Elliot, Beyonce), then goes all out with some heavy rollers. Lots of big, bad and heavy Dillinja tunes on this mix
Combination of liquid beats and funky rolling styles
This set was one I played at the Crow Bar in Auckland NZ. I got great feedback - possibly one of my best mixes ever? I wanted to play a full spectrum of styles with this one. Some harder tracks with soft vocals over the top - just how I like it.
