The first guests experienced Tiana’s Bayou Adventure on Monday. Magic Key holder previews began and we got our first glimpse into what the Disneyland version of the attraction is like. Key holders needed to join a virtual queue to ride, but those that were successful were able to be among the first in the attraction. The Disneyland version is much better paced than the Magic Kingdom version, with a lot of animatronics and almost no slowdown of the story or show scenes. Visit the link in our show notes if you want to see the first ridethrough. – https://www.micechat.com/262305-breaking-news-splash-mountain-to-become-princess-and-the-frog-themed/
We have an explanation for the holidays creeping in on the Halloween festivities at Disneyland. In the last couple of weeks, snow has been appearing on Sleeping Beauty Castle, way before the end of Halloween. We found out why this week. Performances for the upcoming holiday specials were filmed this week, which needed the decorations. John Legend was in the park on Friday to record his segment. – https://www.micechat.com/400493-disneyland-news-tiana-debut-halloween-early-holiday-and-more/

Some good news for those of you who didn’t want Avatar in the Hollywood Pictures Backlot area. Micechat reports that locations for the new Coco and Avatar projects have been in flux. After studying the crowd flow on Pixar Pier, there may not be enough room for an extended queue where the planned Coco attraction would be located. It was suggested to move the Coco attraction to Hollywood Land, which would allow for Monsters, Inc. to be saved as Coco would move into the Hollywood and Dine location. This leaves the Avatar project without a home for now. – https://www.micechat.com/399618-disneyland-update-project-switch-a-roo-construction-price-hikes-too/

Recently in the Orange County Register, there was talk of how Disneyland almost used drones in World of Color when it premiered back in 2010. One of the reasons that this didn’t come to be was governmental regulations on use of drones in nighttime spectaculars. Regulations have decreased since then, which has resulted in drone shows at Disney Springs in Walt Disney World. If you could brave the heat this week, Disneyland was very pleasant. The above 100 degree temperatures kept a lot of guests away, which meant low crowds all around the resort. Clear walkways, and low wait times for attractions were good, but some attractions were down most of the day. Grizzly River Run was one of the top attractions at a wait time of only 10 to 40 minutes! – https://www.micechat.com/397277-disneyland-update-haunts-heat-halloween-treats/

Construction will soon begin on the expanded Avengers Campus early next year, so some clearing needs to happen backstage. Unfortunately, one of the (hopefully) temporary casualties of this is the Red Car Trolly. The maintenance barn for the trolly is where the new Avengers Infinity Defense attraction will be constructed, so it needs to be taken down. No word on if the Red Car Trolly will return. - https://www.micechat.com/395538-disneyland-update-construction-tricks-and-halloween-treats/
A missing treat has returned to Disney California Adventure! The Choco Smash Bar was taken off the Pym Test Kitchen menu last year, replaced by the cake version. The candy bar version is back, joining the cake version as an option. - https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2024/08/25/a-missing-disney-snack-is-back/
Magic Happens had it’s last performance recently, and in it’s place is a new offering. There are also quite a few walking characters as well. - https://www.micechat.com/395538-disneyland-update-construction-tricks-and-halloween-treats/
Some quick construction updates from around the resort. The Haunted Mansion extended queue is starting to take shape with the main walls of the new section looking pretty far along in construction. The gift shop at the end of the attraction has begun vertical construction. With Disneyland being located in California, it is always possible for the earth to move beneath your feet. On August 12, around 12:20pm, a 4.6 magnitude earthquake struck the Los Angeles area. Now that the Haunted Mansion is open for virtual queue guests, there are some new additions and changes spotted this year to the attraction. One that changes every year is the gingerbread house in the ballroom scene. This year it is a Dr. Finkelstein house that is trying on different gingerbread heads for the gingerbread body on the house. The Marc Davis bat in a cage has returned, but this year is in the hallway with the breathing doors. Two new jack-in-the-box figures are at the end of the attic, where the bride is usually at, and finally the ghosts who follow you home in the mirrors at the end are now projections, but you almost can’t tell! - https://www.micechat.com/393233-disneyland-update-dead-er-together-d23-screams-haunted-happenings/

News:
We are recording a day earlier than usual this week, so it is Haunted Mansion Holiday reopening day! The Haunted Mansion has reopened with a virtual queue only option with the majority of the queue still under construction. Guests will need to go into the Disneyland App at 7am or 12pm to try and snag a spot in the virtual queue. For the 7am slot, you do not need to be in the park, but you do need to have scanned into either park before securing a spot for the noon opportunity. – https://www.micechat.com/365986-disneyland-shocker-haunted-mansion-expansions/
Guests that were able to get a virtual queue for the attraction and post video and photos online allowed us to see what has been updated and changed. The exterior queue feels very much like the queue previously, but the walkway is now wide enough for three lines; one for standby, one for Lightning Lane, and one for ADA exit. The hearse has been moved closer to the entrance, and the detail on the path is excellent. The Lightning Lane scan points are now closer to the entrance to the mansion itself. – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-JWEG3BJyuU
Haunted Mansion Holiday opening is signaling the approaching Halloween season! Magic Keyholders had the opportunity to purchase some of the new merchandise for the holiday starting July 27th at World of Disney. Some of the items included a Spirit Jersey with a tie dye design, a candy corn inspired Loungefly bag, a spooky purple tee, candy corn inspired ears, and more! – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2024/07/24/exclusive-new-souvenir-perk-announced-for-annual-passholders-in-disneyland/
In a stunning move, Disney California Adventure is now home to Deadpool and Wolverine. In the movies, Deadpool is a hard R-rated character, but is family friendly in the park. Together with Wolverine, the “Story Time with Deadpool” show is very fun to watch and is held in the courtyard of the Hyperion, between Guardians and the Hyperion. Deadpool has also shown up in the “Awesome Dance Off,” and “Avengers Assemble” shows in Avengers Campus. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2024/07/27/i-am-shocked-and-grateful-that-disney-let-these-2-characters-into-a-park/
More Encanto is coming to the resort, according to a casting call online. There is already a Mirabel meet and greet, but this call is looking for a Mirabel who can sing! It is listed as a limited-time offering, so it could be for the holidays, or a limited-time show, or something else. However, any Encanto in the park is better than no Encanto! – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2024/07/26/we-found-a-clue-that-a-new-encanto-show-is-coming-to-a-disney-park/
In a bit of possible good news for Cast Members, Disney and the UFCW 324 union have reached an agreement. No details have come out and the official vote to accept the agreement takes place on July 29 (the day we recorded this episode) to accept the terms. Generally, it appears that the proposed 3-year contract contains significant wage increases for all cast members, seniority increases, and additional premiums, as well as the retention of premiums. There are also possible attendance policy changes. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2024/07/24/unions-representing-14000-cast-members-reach-deal-with-disney/

Lord the Hawaiian gods at Tiki Room are so badly voiced.
I have a feeling that those who need to hear about park etiquette the most don't listen to this podcast.
I loved this pod cast! thank you! this is just the kind of information I have been wanting to plan our Disneyland trip next year! I will definitely be buying a tour plan! best $8 I could spend to get the most out of our trip!
As always, your so up beat and fun to listen to! thanks for your pod cast! We are planning a trip to DL in January or February 2020. when we went 2 years ago we opted for the one park per day to save money. that worked out great for us. I agree with Theresa. stay where you are and enjoy more ride time instead of jumping around. Also, with the addition of max pass, the money you save with the one park per day will pay for your max pass!
Shelly was delightful! I really enjoy it when you have cast members on the show! Great idea to leave positive feed back for a cast member as you leave the park! Thanks for such a wonderful podcast!
I had so much fun listening to this episode! We are planning a trip to Disneyland in just over a year, Jan. 2020, and I've already put in my phone calendar to listen to this episode again while we drive to Anaheim! thanks for such a great podcast! I tell people about it all the time. I've learned so much about Disneyland! I rarely get to go but have childhood memories and we were able to take our kids 4 times while they were growing up. we all have great Disney memories. thanks for giving me a weekly fix!
