This podcast will chart my year-long self-inflicted challenge to see every wide-release movie of 2016. I'll be doing my best to make things interesting by making predictions, handing out my own personal Oscars, and mostly complaining about how generic everything is.

It’s raining movies! I saw six (SIX!) movies this week, including the much-anticipated Avengers: Endgame. Everything’s getting spoiled, including a bunch of other terrible movies I saw for the week! El Chicano and the Curse of La Llorona were particularly bad. Teen Spirit and Breakthrough were surprisingly OK. And Penguins had penguins, so I guess … Continue reading "Season 2: Episode 17"
The movies are coming fast and thick! I watched five (FIVE!) movies this week, so there’s plenty to talk about. Best of Enemies, After, Hellboy, Missing Link, and Little are all done. Some were good, some were bad, some were just OK! As if that wasn’t enough, I make guesses about five more movies for … Continue reading "Season 2: Episode 16"
The year marches on! I saw Dumbo, Pet Sematary, and Shazam! Two remakes and a comic-book movie! Is originality dead? Sure looks that way! But maybe don’t listen to the guy with yet-another-movie-podcast. Theme song: Bang a Drum by Antti Luode
This week was ROUGH! The Beach Bum and Unplanned were both almost unbearable to watch, and Hotel Mumbai was a brighter spot, but nothing amazing. Luckily, there’s some better movies coming down the pike! Theme song: Bang a Drum by Antti Luode
It’s an exciting week! The much-anticipated Us is out! And the not-anticipated-at-all Gloria Bell is also out! I saw both, and actually had more to say about Gloria Bell. Theme song: Bang a Drum by Antti Luode
It’s a week with some surprises! Wonder Park was surprisingly generic! Five Feet Apart was surprisingly exactly what it looked like! Which isn’t that surprising! And Captive State was surprisingly good! So I guess that’s the only real surprise . . . Theme song: Bang a Drum by Antti Luode
It’s Marvel time! Captain Marvel crashes into theaters! Was it good? Can they still make ten of these a year? Find out! Speaking of crashing, looks like every other movie got out of the way, so that’s the only one for the week! Theme song: Bang a Drum by Antti Luode
It was a rough week, but there’s good movies on the horizon! I watched A Madea Family Funeral, Greta, and Fighting With My Family this week. At least one of them was OK! But next week . . . it’s time for Captain Marvel! Our first of many Marvel movies for the year! Theme song: … Continue reading "Season 2: Episode 10"
In this week’s episode, there’s a lot of talk about whether football can give you epilepsy. And as if that weren’t scientific enough, we also have a time-travelling horror movie (Happy Death Day 2U), and then . . . How to Train Your Dragon! 3! The Hidden World! Theme song: Bang a Drum by Antti … Continue reading "Season 2: Episode 9"
It’s a very fun week in movies! Alita: Battle Angel has your mindless sci-fi action, Isn’t It Romantic has your . . . romantic comedy, and The Lego Movie 2 has your . . . Legos? Lots of laughs this week, future weeks aren’t looking quite so bright . . . Theme song: Bang a … Continue reading "Season 2: Episode 8"
Another three movies bite the dust! I saw Cold Pursuit, The Prodigy, and What Men Want! Were any of them good? Not really. Did I watch them anyway? Sure did! Theme song: Bang a Drum by Antti Luode
It’s a light week! Miss Bala is the only movie, but there’s plenty more coming down the line . . . Theme song: Bang a Drum by Antti Luode
This week took a bit of a turn! Kid Who Would Be King, Stan and Ollie, plus a bonus movie: Least of These, the Graham Staines Story. All three movies went about as expected. But Serenity? Completely off the rails. In a million years, you’ll never guess the plot of this one, and I can … Continue reading "Season 2: Episode 5"
January is wrapping up! I watched Glass, Dragon Ball Super: Broly, and If Beale Street Could Talk. Was the M. Night Shyamalan movie good? BIG TWIST: It was! DOUBLE TWIST: Actually it wasn’t! I’ll take my Hollywood script-writing contract now, thanks. Theme song: Bang a Drum by Antti Luode
The first big week is behind us! I watched Replicas, A Dog’s Way Home, The Upside, and On the Basis of Sex. Two were good, two weren’t, and you’ll never guess which were which! Actually, you can probably guess pretty easily. Theme song: Bang a Drum by Antti Luode
This week, I watched Escape Room, and it . . . wasn’t as bad as I thought! But don’t worry, there’s FIVE MORE movies out, so surely one of those will be terrible. Also, quick pre-correction: 2013’s The Phantom starred David Duchovny, not Keanu Reeves. But you can see where I’d get confused. Theme song: … Continue reading "Season 2: Episode 2"
The podcast is back! And that can only mean one thing! I’ve made the terrible decision to watch every movie again . . . This week, there’s only previewing to be done, and only one movie to preview: The Escape Room Don’t worry, the rest of January will be packed! Theme song: Bang a Drum … Continue reading "Season 2: Episode 1"
Everybody was Kung Fu fighting! Those cats were fast as lightning! Except the old guy, he was slow as molasses. Rachel and I watched Fung Fu: The Legend Continues. We discuss it’s scientific accuracy and amazing stunts, all of which was really really really super great. “Bad Ideas (clean)” Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: … Continue reading "Season 2 Episode 2"
Rachel and I kick the year off with an insightful look into modern presidential politics . . . via The Celebrity Apprentice. Yeah. “Bad Ideas (clean)” Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/
It’s the final episode! I did it! Seven more movies join the pile! La La Land, Passengers, Assassin’s Creed, Sing, Fences, Why Him?, and Manchester By the Sea, are all crossed off the list, and with that, the list is now zero movies long. Rachel and I talk about all of those, and run down the year in review a bit. Stay … Continue reading "Episode 52"
