Wrestler movies. A genre of its own, or perhaps a beautiful niche, as Louis and Kate bring you the joy and wonder of John Cena's second lead role in a feature film, 12 Rounds. A beautiful nonsense filled with bad FBI agents, Aiden Gillen devouring the scenery and the most absurdly funny death scene in a film that really isn't supposed to be. Enjoy the episode, and absolutely enjoy the movie. INSTAGRAM @darlingwhypodcast @l.a.tsang
Suit up, and stop making sense, as Louis brings his joy and love of 1984 concert film Stop Making Sense to the podcast. Expect talk about the form itself, David Byrne's David Byrneness, Tina Weymouth's bass magic and yes, some chat about some rather large menswear. What a film, and this podcast is pretty good too! Difficult second album time? Maybe! Today, Kate goes in on why she loves 9, second album from Irish singer damien Rice. His previous album had some massive hits on it, and Rice is not the most prolific of artists, but why did this album leave such an impression on the Irsh half of our podcast? Listen and find out! Magnifishite returns, as Louis and Kate tell you, in horrendously beautfiul detail, about 1999's.....heist erotic thriller? Entrapment, starring Sean Connery and Catherine Zeta-Jones. An exhaustive yet entertaining breakdown awaits Magnifishite exists to celebrate the sublimely ridiculous, not the ridiculously sublime. INSTAGRAM @darlingwhypodcast @l.a.tsang
FISH SEX! That's why you are here isn't it? You want Louis and Kate to discuss the fish sex movie? Well tough cheese, because this movie is beautiful, kind and wonderful, and that's the podcast you're going to get today! Guillermo Del Toro's 2017 masterpiece is the subject of episode 55. This episode will hopefully evoke the loving nature of the movie, or it may make you want to purchase a teal car. Either way, it's another good one! INSTAGRAM @l.a.tsang @darlingwhypodcast
The name on everybody's lips is gonna be "Darling, Why?" after this episode, all about the Kandar and Ebb musical "Chicago". There is also a little bit of a chat about the 2002 movie adaptation starring Renee Zellwegger and Catherine Zeta-Jones, and all that jazz. Louis and Kate have a lovely chat about 1984 science fiction classic The Terminator, taking in great tension building, night shoots and the sheer James Cameronness of James Cameron. There's also talk of strangly comedic moments, and the sheer physical presence of the 7 time Mr Olympia turned Hollywood megastar Arnold Schwarzenegger in his most iconic role, and Michael Biehn and Linda Hamilton get the plaudits they so richly deserve too. The management hopes that "you'll be back" for our next episode. INSTAGRAM @darlingwhypodcast @l.a.tsang
A special bonus treat from Kate's beautiful mind, this little episode talks about the outfits from three of the films Kate encountered this year, inlcuding a returning hero, a carnage inducing villain and Britain's suavest misogynist. Please enjoy this 20 minutes of silliness. The main show returns next week with an episode all about The Terminator. INSTAGRAM @darlingwhypodcast @l.a.tsang
As a special Christmas bonus, Louis and Kate are piloting something they have wanted to do for a while, Magnifisihite, where they go in on the films (and other things) that are magnificently shite, a unique and beautiful kind of awful. These aren't things they hate, (no vitriol here) but explorations of artisitic derangement, studio interference, immense cocaine usage or a combination of all three at the same time. There's cookies, reindeer violence and even an improvised explosive device, in this "family" picture. Its Turbo Time, as this pilot episode is a Christmas bewilderment, 1996's Jingle All The Way, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Phil Hartman, Rita Wilson and Sinbad. It's the end of 2022 and Louis and Kate are gatecrashing your Christmas to bring you the art they loved for this year. Hopefully, you will let them in to your homes and not call the authorities to have them removed. They are nice people, after all! The pod wishes you all good tidings and cheer! To end our main 2022 slate, Kate has chosen a barnstomer of an album, 2014's totemic trans masterpiece, Transgender Dysphoria Blues by Against Me! Kate highlights her favourite moments, Louis holds himself back from an equally enthusiastic gush about this one (he would have picked it if she hadn't). An incredibly cathartic and powerful record, and one we implore you to listen to if you haven't before. BTW casual reminder that any anti trans nonsense isn't welcome here. Thanks!!! For the first (and definately not the last) time, Louis goes into the mind of one of gamings most unique individual, Hideo Kojima, and tells us all about 2019's Death Stranding, a videogame about a very efficient postman doing efficient postman things....of course, its a hell of a lot more than that, as Louis details. Death Stranding is somewhat divisive, but Louis is a paid up member of the Death Stranding defence force, and he is on the lookout for new recruits. BTW, no plot spoilers are discussed here, and there is also a surprising connection to episode 50. MONORAIL!!!!!!!! MONORAIL!!!!!!! MONORAIL!!!!!!!! Welcome to episode 50 of Darling, Why? In which Kate has chosen to talk about one of her very favourite episodes of the beloved animated sitcom The Simpsons. A fourth season classic, this episode is a magnificent showcase of the ideas of Conan O'Brian and the much missed voice talents of Phil Hartman. The management thanks you all for the support and love you have shown to Louis and Kate as they reach this milestone. They can't quite believe they are here. In this episode, Louis brings one of both his, and his dad's, very favourite classic comedies, 1967's The Producers, starring Zero Mostel and Gene Wilder. The film, about two people who decide to try and make more money with a musical flop than with a hit in a big grift, is the debut feature of American comedy legend Mel Brooks, of Spaceballs, Blazing Saddles and RObin Hood: Men In Tights fame. Louis basically simps over Gene Wilder and Zero Mostel, and there's even a surprise appearance from Ned Flanders' dad as well as the House Unamerican Activities Committee.
