In Episode 155 Kvothe plays a trick and a song at the Eolian. But the reaction is not what he hoped for, perhaps affecting hs ability to collect coin from the wealthy establishment there. To make matters worse, Kvothe has been poisoned, causing him to bungle his admissions and achieve his worst tuition yet! Even after he has collected his various moneys from his artificing, and playing tips, his purse is still a bit light, so back to Devi he must go. And the Fingers are here for it!
We cover this series spoiler-free in the main section, but Devi After Dark is our chance to dive into the wilder speculation about these books, at the end of each episode. We hope to bring you the best of our own theories and thoughts in the fandom as we move through the series.

In what is a bit of a catchup series of chapters, we see the silence of the Inn, the magical illusion Kote has laid upon the civilians of the town that even he can’t overcome, and we reacquaint ourselves with the Eolian as Kvothe tries to make some money for tuition…the same old song and dance!
We do have Devi After Dark available again at the end of the episode. Chapters Covered: Interlude - Looking (88) through A Silence of Three Parts (Epilogue)
In this episode of Davos Fingers covering NINE chapters, Denna gets over her high while Kvothe confronts the rampaging Draccus and offers it some Sympathy before making his way home to the University. He has many apologies to give and amends to make there, but one consistent thorn in Kvothe’s side learns that sticks and stones may be bad, but Names actually can hurt something fierce. He also goes up on the horns, again, and is sentenced to a lashing, awarded a small fortune, expelled from the University, promoted to Re’lar, and readmitted to the University in the span of a few minutes. And lastly, Kvothe finally gathers the courage to ask Auri to show him her home. It’s a lot of content, and the Fingers enjoyed every minute of it!
If you love all the good spoilery bits talked about in the future sections of this book, don’t miss Devi After Dark at the end of the episode where we chat about some of the deeper mysteries in this series. But if you are reading along for the first time, don’t worry, all spoilers will be avoided until then!

Chapters Covered: Sweet Talk (79) through Boldness (87)
In this Epiosode Matt and Scad follow Kvothe and his sometimes companion Denna as they continue to unravel the mystery of blue flame that Denna saw at Mauthen's Wedding. It isn't what they think as they are forced to contend with a mythical creature of legend: A Dragon. Or is it. Not only that but the creature is on an addiction-riddled hunt for his next fix, and Kvothe and Denna feel like they must stop it. Inside, the Fingers also unravel the importance of honesty in storytelling, tell some of their own tales, and laugh along at each other as usual!
The Davos' Fingers podcast is spoiler free as we tackle The Name of the Wind just as we were during our coverage of ASOIAF. So sit back and listen comfortably with the knowledge that we will not cover any material in this episode beyond Chapter 78. Matt and Scad celebrate their 150th episode with a doozy of a selection of chapters from The Name of the Wind. Kvothe hears that the Chandrian have appeared only one day prior and a mere afternoon’s ride away. He drops everything, procures a loan for a horse and sets off to see evidence of this childhood faerie tale turned real life trauma. When he arrives, Denna just happens to be the only survivor from the slaughter, and the two of them tour the scene of the crime together. Also inside, we reminisce about our 150 episodes together and share some heartfelt and very touching listener feedback from the Khalasar.
The Davos’ Fingers podcast is spoiler free as we cover The Kingkiller Chronicle, so we will only cover that material up to and including the chapters discussed in this episode. So listen in comfort knowing we will not spoil this book for first time readers! In Episode 148, Matt and Scad go walking and talking with Kvothe and Denna as the pair connect for hours after Kvothe skips out on work. It's also a bit of a catchup episode. Kvothe has all sorts of opportunity in front of him now that he has obtained his talent pipes and completed his training in the artificery, but what will he prioritize, and can he focus on getting a little bit ahead in life, or will he get distracted by the things he doesn't have.

Episode 147: Caught By A Smile
The boys from Davos’ Fingers get a nice easy break this episode to sit back and listen to a master at work. This series of chapters is contained almost entirely within the happening music spot, The Eolian, where Kvothe attempts to “earn his pipes”. A small trinket fashioned to look like silver pipes, they will earn him money and clout if he is successful. But it is no easy task, as it takes a flawless and moving performance from a skilled artist, with most attempts not meeting the bar. Kvothe drinks with his good friends, makes a few new ones, and is reunited with an old one from months ago all in this one magical night at the Eolian.

The Fingers find Kvothe at the end of his first term considerably richer than he was when he first arrived, with a true enemy in Ambrose, and a wild reputation that is MOSTLY true spreading like wildfire through the University. But as he approaches his second term and finds himself short of tuition money with no easy way to get more, he turns to scary options in order to stay a student, and even scarier options to bring music back into his life. There is also a woman waiting in the wings…or maybe she entered in this set of chapters? Come join us to get our thoughts on the matter.

Well the Fingers have certainly stumbled into a Tavern Tale, though Kvothe might disagree. This episode moves FAST. Kvothe gets to teach his first lesson at the University (you didn't misread that), gets punished and rewarded for it (you didn't misread that either), then gets his wounds tended to, but then opens a new wound himself by disobeying a serious rule of the University. If only he had figured out that 4-plated DOOR first!! So much happens to Kvothe so quickly, sometimes you just want to tell him to slow down, but here we are!
Matt and Scad have really hit their stride in their coverage of The Kingkiller Chronicle weaving pop culture and their personal lives in with some in-depth analysis of the text. Like listening to two friends chat about something you love, come join us!

Episode 145 covers chapters 39-45 of The Name of the Wind.
In Episode 144*, the Fingers follow Kvothe into Imre and further into the depths of the University. Inside, we get a cultural education about the University, and we meet the Masters that control admissions. Kvothe must work some Kvothian magic to be admitted, but once he is, we get to meet some new friends and some new enemies. Kvothe is at the University at last; where he thinks he belongs, and that is something to celebrate.

The Fingers travel with Kvothe to Tarbean to get some new lute strings, and you faithful listeners are coming with us. Kvothe's mind is a terrifying place these days, and he is coping via copious lute playing, becoming a master that can compose new works and play through broken strings. But when his third string breaks he finds himself on the move to a place where he can get replacements, for the idea of existing with lute playing is ludicrous. But the city he finds, Tarbean, is unwelcoming and hard. In a rollercoaster episode full of helpful heroes and dangerous demons, Pat allows us to feel like we are right there, huddled with Kvothe in his place where the three roofs meet.

In our first episode covering The Kingkiller Chronicle, Davos’ Fingers is introduced to the mostly mild-mannered and seemingly regular Kote. Then, of course, he becomes totally IRREGULAR and starts talking about demons and trying to hide his obviously prolific history from people. Oh, yeah, then he befriends a stranger on the road…a Chronicler...before executing a bunch of spider monsters…so enjoy!.

Meet the Khalasar is back in Episode 137, but with a little twist! Scad interviews Matt with some deep dive questions so that we can all learn a little bit more about one of the best guys in the fandom. And he has picked a great chapter for us to unravel, and one we haven’t spoken about in a long long time: Eddard ONE of A Game of Thrones. In this chapter King Robert arrives at Winterfell and the two besties from childhood immediately isolate themselves for a trip down memory lane as Robert pays his respects to Lyanna. So join us as we tour the crypts of Winterfell and the recesses of Matt’s brain.
And what a brain it is. Inside you will get to learn a lot about Matt’s kids, his thoughts on what excites him about the future of ASOIAF, how he balances all of his many roles and communities in his life, and after 8 years of podcasting, we finally get him to toss in a little scripture for us. Matt knows how to give the people what they want!
Next up for the Fingers is probably easy to guess. Matt is going to return the favor and put Scad under the microscope while we delve into a chapter of his choosing. So join us in three weeks time for that. PLUS, more patreon content and fresh public episodes every three weeks coming at you in the New Year!

House of the Dragon season one has come to an end and so does our coverage of it in episode 136: The Black Queen. Rhaenys has delivered the message of Viserys' passing to Dragonstone, and team Rhaenyra has to contend with a baby on the way, a usurped throne, a questionable roster of allies, and their own very conflicted emotions about an impending war and the loss of loved ones. Stretched thin, they use all the resources at their disposal as best as they can, but at what cost?
House of the Dragon might be over for now, but the Davos’ Fingers Podcast is going right back into it! We will see you back here for a new episode of Meet the Khalasar in three weeks as we leave the show behind and let the books take center stage as they should. Meet the Khalasar episodes dive into a single chapter with Matt, Scad and a single member of the Khalasar while also letting us all get to know that Bloodrider better. So come check out the podcast in three weeks for a brand new episode.
We’d love to hear your thoughts about House of the Dragon, or about our coverage! Join us on twitter @davosfingers, or shoot us an email at wearedavosfingers@gmail.com, or find us on facebook!
