Within the hour the hiring of Brian O'Connor as next Diamond Dog skipper was official, confirming our reporting on GenesPage.com. The 2015 National Champion coach of Virginia is only the 5th College World Series winner to take another head coaching job in college baseball. His hiring beat the opening of the spring transfer window by hours and recruiting is O'Connor's immediate priority along with finalizing his assistant staff. For the fifth time in program post-season history Mississippi State starts NCAA Tournament play in the Tallahassee Regional. The previous four trips have produced championships in 2007 and 2018, with both clubs advancing ultimately to the College World Series. The Diamond Dogs face runaway CAA champs Northeastern, while #9 national seed Florida State faces Bethune-Cookman. The regional is paired with the Corvallis tournament and #8 seed Oregon State.
