Armed with RBF and a desire to infiltrate an underground radio show host fight club, the girls grab some coffee and settle in for the week. To celebrate her upcoming birthday and recent medical adventures, Ann finds that Sonya Caleffi shares the special day with her. She also found that Sonya was an Italian serial killer, that allegedly killed about 18 people, acting as an Angel of Death. Jessi's dad put in a request for the "story about the murdered DJ from Denver." Turns out there's more than one, so Jessi dives into the story of Alan Berg, who mouthed off and got the attention of some white supremacists.
After a month hiatus, Ann and Jessi are back to bring shame to their families and make wildly inappropriate jokes. Jessi covers the story of Paige Birgfield, a Grand Junction mother of 3 with several thriving businesses, some crazy ex's, and a secret that would send the cops scrambling. Ann goes over the sordid and ill-advised history that led to the notorious hauntings of the Hotel Colorado, in Glenwood Springs.
The girls really took all of their favorite things, and crammed them into one episode. Coffee! Taco speakeasies! Bagel bites! The bar continues to be raised! Ann wants to stave off a full blown addiction, so she presents the cautionary tale of the 1997 coffee shop murders. Jessi needs perspective, to show her that homeowning could be worse, so she covers the haunting of the Peabody Mansion.
Did we record on time? We did. Did we edit on time? Sure did. Did Jessi follow up on the minor role she plays in the publishing piece of this enterprise? No. No she did not. They may be late to the party, but they are still fabulously disorganized with stories of 1920s floozies and 9 year old planners.
Between turkeys roaming the streets and the most amazing fan base ever, the girls are ready to limp into a new week. Jessi can't let the chance to prove camping is bad pass her by, so she tells the tale of the wild coincidence surrounding the Stayner Brothers, Steven, a national hero, and Cary, a much darker animal. Ann uncovers the original Snapped model, with the story of Ruth Snyder and Henry Judd Gray, who murdered Ruth's husband for reasons as old as time, and who's story spawned a circus that was all the new rage.
Curses and icebergs, bad parenting skills and changelings. After a rough week, the girls are asking the hard questions. Like, is Mercury in retrograde? What the hell is retrograde? How do parents keep track of 7 kids? Maybe we'll never know. After feeling the effects of the April Curse, Jessi delves into the many, many other examples of the people April has curb stomped. Ann wonders how many kids got swapped out in the early 1900s after learning the story of Bobby Dunbar and the gaggle of incompetent adults surrounding him.
Armed with homemade danishes and a live audience, the girls settle in and take you on a journey of haunted houses and phantoms. Ann lays out the bizarre happenings surrounding a house in L.A. complete with ghosts, suicides years apart, and a link to the Mason Family. Jessi takes everyone through the numerous and baffling crimes of the Phantom of Heilbronn.
After checking the fire insurance on Jessi's home, verifying the day of the week for Ann, and giving an update on an old episode, the girls continue to tell the stories of the Eleven who went to Heaven. In part 3, Ann tries to dig up information on Kimberly Pitchford and Susie Bowers, while Jessi questions the connection to Brenda Jones and Ed Bell. There's tentative connections and bad police work aplenty, but are these murders a part of something bigger?
The girls are throwing back the schnapps and enrolling the dogs in AA, but that won't stop them from judging 1970's police forces. In Part 2 of the Eleven who went to heaven, Ann and Jessi discuss the string of horror that seems to follow Ed Bell. Another set of best friends, a girl returning from band camp, and young woman just starting her adult life. All taken, all dismissed as runaways, all tied to an area Bell lived and worked.
The girls are back! New stories! New podroom! New adventures ahead! Same mediocre researching habits! Consistency is key. What better way to come back than with a heavy hitting feature, the stories of the Eleven who went Heaven, and the monster who might have helped them along, Edward Harold Bell.
New Year! Same snarky, wandering, mildly researched craziness. Thank you to everyone who has spread the word, Death Over Danishes is in 13 countries! Jessi wants to remind you to keep those new year's resolutions to learn new hobbies to something reasonable, which shouldn't include camping. As proof, she presents the Dyatlov Pass Incident. Ann counters with the Icebox Murders, and the abuse that likely pushed Charles Rogers to store his parents in the fridge and skip town. While camping may be discouraged, there are healthier ways to severe ties with toxic people. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/dod9/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/dod9/support
Having survived the Christmas holiday with cookies and ghost armadillos, the girls are ready to close this year out, and carefully, and cautiously, move into the new year. What's the best way to close out this nightmare of a year? By discussing nightmare fuel! Jessi tells the story of Slender Man and the attack on Payton Leutner inspired by this internet meme. Ann reflects on 2020 by researching the many, many crimes of 1920 (it's all about perspective). Rising to the top of the pile is the tale of Marian Parker, who was brutally murdered in an attempt to finance her killer's Bible school education. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/dod9/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/dod9/support
Welcome to the holidays with Death Over Danishes! You guys! Ann volunteered to go first. She volunteered. It's a Holiday Miracle. Questioning the choices of bidders at a police auction, Ann looks into murders that occurred in tents, and finds the case of Margret "Peggy" Beck, who is coming close to justice after over 50 years. Jessi dives into the folklore of Krampus, the child beating, schnapps drinking bestie of Santa. Can you call it a break if you spent two weeks getting your butt kicked? On the rebound from an immense lost and COVID, the girls pick themselves up, and delve into unhealthy coping mechanisms, like extreme shopping and inappropriate thoughts. Jessi tells the story of the Los Feliz Murder Mansion. Who is worse? Dr. Perelson, who killed his wife with a hammer, or the buyers of the aftermath, that kept everything as it was that fateful night for 30 years? Ann takes this show international, with the tale of the Monte Cristo Homestead, the wildly haunted mansion in Australia. Once the epitome of wealth and prominence, this sprawling home has become known as the most haunted house in Australia. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/dod9/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/dod9/support
The girls are back, having learned no lessons on professionalism. Ann plays a game trying to determine if the bidders at the police auction are there to get stuff they don't need, or get their stuff back. Jessi wonders if her willingness to commit to a 7pm bedtime will allow her to get into the 55 and over community. With so much going on, the girls join forces to bring you the tales of conspiracy surrounding the Denver International Airport. Demons, gargoyles, Nazis, and secret societies who need the world of 2094 to know about Beavis and Butthead, DIA brings the same level of comprehensiveness as this podcast. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/dod9/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/dod9/support
After surviving the 45 day week after the elections, the girls are ready to rise up and go after neighborhood nuisances. Armed with flamingo wine and anger issues, they have had it with the general idea of being rude. Jessi's mom pushes her to cover Jakeob McKnight, a 10 year old boy who was murdered in 1991, and while all signs point to the vile repeat offender, John Chinn, this one remains unsolved. Ann decides the listeners need a little history lesson, and discusses the haunted Poveglia Island, the plague ridden ghosts that roam it's lands, pushing people off clock towers, and creating a rather aggressive fog. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/dod9/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/dod9/support
It's Halloween! COVID! Time Changes! Elections! Full Moons! With 2020 being terrifying on it's own, the girls decide to reflect on life's simpler fears. Like horror movies inspired by true events. With an assortment of sometimes gory, often creepy, true stories, the girls bond over the mothers who traumatized them, and likely led to their obsession with death. It's all fun and games until someone brings up Jack Nicholson. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/dod9/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/dod9/support
The girls of Death Over Danishes deal with ash raining from the sky, 40 degree temperature drops, arthritis, and late...evenings as they bring together Part 2 of the Deer Creek Canyon feature. Jessi discusses Alie Berrelez, a 5 year old Little Richard fan with a heart of gold, who went missing in 1993. Though little Alie's story ended too soon, her family keeps her memory alive by honoring the brave good boy who brought her home. Ann starts off by thinking Jason Dosa had an unfortunate accident in 2015, only to find herself investigating murder, mayhem, and pot websites. Word to the wise, maybe do a background check on your business partners. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/dod9/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/dod9/support
Stumbling into their feature on Deer Creek Canyon, the girls are confronted with snarky park rangers, an inability to read into locations, and animal classification disputes. Jessi tells Marilee Burt's tragic story. A girl with a big future ahead, and a family that won't stop looking for answers. Ann dives into the story of James William Murray, or Crazy Jim, to his friends. Or enemies, considering his unfortunate resting place. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/dod9/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/dod9/support
It's been a long week, but the girls are here, and they're aren't going anywhere. Because they will likely get lost, the way this week is going. Jessi gets spooky, and tells the campfire urban legend come to life, with the story of Cropsey, and Andre Rand. Ann digs up the tale of serial killer most haven't heard of, or can't pronounce, Faryion Wardrip, who killed 5 women in Texas, and low-keyed called out police. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/dod9/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/dod9/support
