As we conclude our Metahuman miniseries, we hear from Dr. Don Hoffman, writer and professor of Cognitive Sciences at the University of California, Irvine, as he shares his latest book The Case of Against Reality: Why Evolution Hid the Truth from Our Eyes and asks us to challenge what we call reality. This conversation took place at The Rubin Museum of Art and was recorded in front of a live audience.  To learn more about listener data and our privacy practices visit: https://www.audacyinc.com/privacy-policy Learn more about your ad choices. Continuing onward through our Metahuman miniseries, we move forward with our second episode. When working to understand success and what a successful life might mean, we hear from host, viral content creator, and former monk, Jay Shetty. Just as wisdom traditions of all time have said, Jay Shetty challenges us to remember that success starts not from the outside, but from deep within.  To learn more about listener data and our privacy practices visit: https://www.audacyinc.com/privacy-policy Learn more about your ad choices. In this first episode of our three part Metahuman miniseries, we explore the heart-soul connection and gain valuable insight from health expert, Dr. Oz, who has dedicated his life's work to cardiology, both as an innovative heart surgeon at New York Presbyterian Columbia Medical Center and as a promoter of wellness to millions on television. In our final episode of Season 1, we come back to the most fundamental questions: who are we and what are we capable of.  My guest today, Dr. Jean Houston, sees us as heroes in our own mythic journeys, here to realize our great calling.  Jean Houston has worked with Joseph Campbell, Margaret Mead and even Hilary Clinton, and she now joins us to explore our roles in this time of profound shift.  Today, we tap into our full human potential.  And it truly is, infinite.  To learn more about listener data and our privacy practices visit: https://www.audacyinc.com/privacy-policy Learn more about your ad choices. We humans remember things on a uniquely grand scale.  From the pyramids to the Washington Monument, we build memorials so we won't forget our past.  Today, I try to understand why with Michael Arad, the visionary architect behind the 9/11 Memorial at Ground Zero, in New York City.  When an act of terrorism changed the world forever, how could we do justice to physical and emotional destruction that occurred?  Michael answered that question the only way he knew: by creating a memory space.  Join me for this powerful conversation about history, truth, healing and how the spaces we live in and pass through can change our story, both personal and global.  To learn more about listener data and our privacy practices visit: https://www.audacyinc.com/privacy-policy Learn more about your ad choices. Is there more evidence for God or for aliens?  Can true reality be described by science or will it always remain a mystery?  Are there limits to our imagination?  These are some of the questions I debate with Leonard Mlodinow .  Not only has he co-authored books with Stephen Hawking, he's also written for Star Trek, which make his perspectives among the most unique I've encountered.  But we don't always agree.  And over the years that has turned us into close friends, as well as collaborators.  As a man with many layers, our journey today is sure to expand your mind, as it has mine.  To learn more about listener data and our privacy practices visit: https://www.audacyinc.com/privacy-policy Learn more about your ad choices. Sex is powerful, and no one knows that better than "sexpert", writer, podcast host and relationship extraordinaire, Dan Savage. In his decades of experience, Dan's seen a lot, and he's paving a unique and profound new path redefining what it means to love and to be in a relationship, or rather, to be in many relationships. Is the human species meant to love one person? Or is love provisional like our identity? Join me as we paint new colors on a very old practice. Who are you? If you've ever stopped to ask yourself this question, a myriad of adjectives have likely swirled around your...brain.  But, is that really you?  My guest today, psychiatrist and author Rebecca Gladding, MD,  says, not necessarily. In fact, you may be working from a set of deceptive and tenacious, maybe even false, narratives in your brain.  So join me to investigate how our identity is shaped and by whom —or what. And most importantly, how to reimagine the very idea of who you think you are.   To learn more about listener data and our privacy practices visit: https://www.audacyinc.com/privacy-policy Learn more about your ad choices. In Part Two of our series on Artificial Intelligence, we unravel the inner workings of the internet brain, ever-growing in size...and in power.  How do we relate to the systems being built around us?  What is ethical AI? And how can our data shape and alter our reality? Join me as we peer into the future, that is also our present, with Christopher Wylie, the green-haired, nose-ringed whistle-blower on Cambridge Analytica, as well as quite the philosopher of tech. Chris sounds the alarm...and together we look for signs of how to be humanly conscious in the age of machines.   To learn more about listener data and our privacy practices visit: https://www.audacyinc.com/privacy-policy Learn more about your ad choices. Artificial Intelligence, AI, is now a reality.  It lives with us in our pockets, in our homes, and in our...minds? We take on this brave new world in two parts, linked by one critical question: will AI ever be truly conscious?  In Part One, we speak to founder & CEO of LivePerson, Robert LoCascio, who has had decades of pioneering experience in creating and using Artificial Intelligence to better our life here on earth. Join me today as we look behind the curtain at how AI is really made and what it can tell us about ourselves.  To learn more about listener data and our privacy practices visit: https://www.audacyinc.com/privacy-policy Learn more about your ad choices. Ever wondered what's beyond our universe?  So did Dr. Michio Kaku, beginning at the young age of 8, and it led him to try and complete Einstein's unfinished work: a theory of everything.  Dr. Kaku is a world-renowned physicist and a co-author of String Field Theory,  which some claim is the closest we've come to understanding the code of the universe.  In our fascinating conversation, Dr. Kaku and I explore multiverses, measure consciousness, and question the nature of reality...and cats.  To learn more about listener data and our privacy practices visit: https://www.audacyinc.com/privacy-policy Learn more about your ad choices. Space.  The final frontier.  And maybe, a place we will soon call home. Join me for a perspective shifting adventure outside our atmosphere with the first, and only Iranian Astronaut to go to space, Anousheh Ansari.  What can we learn by looking at ourselves from the outside?  How do we connect to a universal consciousness? And who exactly do we earthlings think we are?   The answers may be right in front of you. Russell Brand thinks laughter is a door to a higher truth.  In our conversation, we explore how humor changed his life and how it can help us all alter our perceptions of reality.  As Russell charts his path from addiction to a more mindful approach to his life, we discuss love and acceptance, oblivion and transcendence, and how to see ourselves in this world more clearly.  Join me for a fun, and serious, discussion with a particularly enlightened comedian. Dr. Jane Goodall joins me today to take us into the wild and explore consciousness outside and beyond the realm of the human animal.  How does understanding consciousness in other species help us understand our place in the web of life?  How do we harness this understanding to ensure the survival of our planet...and us?  Dr. Goodall, a world-renowned primatologist and anthropologist -- and not to mention a personal hero of mine -- takes us into the story of her life and the lessons she's learned along the way.   Join me, as we discover the power of the human spirit and our connection to all living things.  Special thanks to Aimee Morgana To learn more about listener data and our privacy practices visit: https://www.audacyinc.com/privacy-policy Learn more about your ad choices. Today I welcome my old friend, world-renowned neurosurgeon and Chief Medical Correspondent for CNN, Dr. Sanjay Gupta. Join us for a conversation where we discuss the amazing 3-pound mass we call our brain -- does it hold the answers to how we think, feel and imagine?  Is the brain the center of everything we believe is reality? And is that where the mind resides? The answer may not be what you expect.  Come with me, as we explore the mysterious power of the mind. I listen to Brand's podcast and it was so fun to hear him speak on the other side as an interviewee. I also enjoyed the perspective of leaders and a lack of a sense of humor. Much to contemplate on.

Hi Deepak. I listened to you are not your Brain with Rebecca Gladding. It seems that Western society continue to want science to reinforce what meditators know experientially. This is not a bad thing. It does seem however that there is a tendency in the west to view meditation as expansions of the mind and mindfulness permeates the language. To me the complexity of the mind and in particular a sick one (a mind trapped in depression, fear, bipolar etc), may find it difficult to grasp some of the language. As a long time meditator I found it difficult to work with the mind until I found out how to seperate the self from the mind and the body. I recently saw a program with you and Sadhguru. In January this year I did his Inner Engineering Program and learned the Shambahvi Mahamudra Kriya. I have found this meditation technique nothing short of miraculous in its simplicity. It instantly creates this separation between the Self or your inner Being from the mind. The Self becomes this mediat

Dear Deepak, I love the words and passions spoken throughout your podcasts. It's always enlightening and most enjoyable when I listen to a guest and I'm taken to a moment of awe and encompassed by what that speaker is telling. I believe we as in every human being is connected, therefore relatable and maybe some of us probably a great many like to have these moments of knowing that. In my experience I am always learning through my experiences, through books, through encounters, etc. and I am one who believes in things happening at a time that they are meant to. Listening today was meant for me to hear what Jean expressed. I will not remember everything verbatim but her eloquence and perception of mythology and how that ties to people's stories really resonated with me. It gave me chills which is always pretty cool. Thank you🙏

I actually found this episode, as all others so far, exceptionally interesting. How can we be, as a species, more enlightened than ever, and have masses of people believing the absolute nonsense coming from the Trump administration (among other sources of fake nonsense packages for the masses all over the world?). We shouldn't ignore what social media can do and is doing. As a spiritual seeker, I have decided to let go of what I had left of social media based on this interview (and reflections I had begun previously, of course). Should a show about spirituality talk about big data? I think yes.

living in the moment, is so important. listening to a podcast takes one away from the moment. this will never be meditation, this will only bring people to the edge of meditation. it's not a bad thing, but it's a poor substitute. I hope everyone understands this
