This was such an incredible conversation! You’re about to listen to someone I’ve already spoken to on this podcast. Someone I know intimately and love so much! We had a longer, deeper, more expansive conversation that goes beyond the music. Chris Thomas is someone I met in 2020. We go right back to those very early days of our time and relationship together. What is evident is how he has really stepped into himself. Stepped into BEING himself. Comfortable in his own skin and making that place to get to a place to come from, so everything he creates is a result of who he’s being and who he’s become. What an immense privilege it is to reflect on this with him, to know him, to have supported and guided him. To witness who he has become and who he is being today as a business owner, CEO, performer, artist, creative, joker, beautiful, unique creation. I invite you to really listen in and hear yourself in this conversation. My name is Disco Dave Wynn. Sometimes in life you come across people that you instantly notice that you share an energetic connection with. They tend to become people who are so much fun to be around and spend time with! Carmen is one of those people for me. She is Founder of Carmen Balacianu (Bala-chi-anu) Coaching, Partner & Chief Happiness Officer of Adaptaa, a coaching and leadership development organisation. Coming from humble beginnings in Communist Romania, she took the courageous step to immigrate to the US at 21 years old. With the immigrants mentality she forged a corporate career in Finance, Business Development and Talent Management, flying high, before completely burning out and falling into a major depression. Her light went out. Carmen very kindly and humbly shared our work was a catalyst for her to rise from the ashes and generously provides great insight into the experience of severe burnout and other trauma she experienced in her life. She shared off the cuff after we finished recording that this is her first ever podcast interview! I feel privileged to be her first. But this is also an example of how she is, as she says, letting her light shine as a result of her experience. And I feel privileged to have helped provide her with a tool to shine brighter in any moment. My name is Disco Dave Wynn. Mohammed is one of those rare people I would categorise as fearless action takers. You know those people who get an extraordinary amount done, who don’t know the meaning of the word procrastinate. Except there’s a dark side to this gift, especially when, like Mohammed, this extraordinary ability comes from a place of deep pain and is an attempt to mask feelings or fill a void of love and connection. He came from a conservative, Asian background, a broken home and really struggled with his own identity, self expression and experienced a lack of belonging, which I personally deeply resonate with. I’m so grateful to Mohammed for not only the way he approached our work together, the fearless way he dived into his discomfort, but also for his openness in wanting to share this experience with you, the listener. I also loved how he describes music helped him separate himself from his experiences, gaining new perspectives that, in his words, levelled him up in ways that are hard to articulate and moved him from having music express for him to being able to express himself. There’s great insights here and I’m sure this will resonate if you’re a deeply analytical thinker, you’ve struggled with self-expression, struggled with connection to yourself and others, struggled with your identity, struggled with expectations of yourself and perceived expectations from others. When Amanda Parker and I get together we have fun, insightful conversations that always contain laughter! Her official bio will tell you she has an extensive background in Organisational & Leadership development, she spent years working with The WWF, the Worldwide Fund for Nature, who you’ll recognise from their famous panda logo. She’s an experienced transformational & leadership coach, but unofficially her passions lie in exploring the weirdest and most wonderful personal growth experiences the world has to offer, which is what lead her to her Music Mapping Experience. Up until our experience she held a secret limiting belief that had run her entire life. That it would be impossible for her to not be a people pleaser. You see, she’d been this way pretty much her entire life to protect her parents and then others. Her heart is so big that she took on that burden to protect others until she discovered she didn’t have to be that way any more.  These days Amanda explores her curiosity with incredible humans on her brilliant Don't Step On The Bluebells podcast. Your unconventional guide to personal growth and healing. I can't recommend you listen in highly enough! My name is Disco Dave Wynn. How music can shift your energy - this is a topic I love to discuss! So much is possible through music. We explore this together through this very succinct conversation. Rachel Letham and I go back several years and she shares with me how, through her Music Mapping Experience, she re-establishing her connection to music. She also mentioned how music helped her turn her pain into power. I loved her willingness to explore discomfort and be curious through music.  My name is Disco Dave Wynn. Slow down to speed up is one of my favourite phrases and mantras and this conversation with Debbie Rennie takes a little while to get going, so stick with it. Debbie and I have been working together for several years and when we originally met she admits she was in a dark place, she felt completely stuck. She’s a 2nd generation and very talented marketing and PR professional. She took over the 20 year old family business from her father and in the time that we’ve worked together she’s taken personal responsibility for the place that she got herself and the business into and for getting herself out of that place. Into a place where she’s grown a huge amount personally, evolved and grown the business, shaping the identity in her image. In this conversation we explore all of that, the renewed belief she’s created within herself and how music, the experience of her music helped her to remember to love what you do!  My name is Disco Dave Wynn. Chris is a brilliant and highly experienced people leader with an abundance of experience leading large teams. After having relatively linear success in his career he took what he terms a bit of a battering which eroded his self-belief, left him questioning his self image and taking a long hard look at himself. He demonstrates a quality all great leaders have - self-awareness - in acknowledging the need to grow, to invest in himself and the importance of maintaining a beginners mindset, rather than believing, as a leader, we know it all. Channeling emotions and experiences. Using music to explore the elements of your past successes to remember why you’re awesome! Gaining perspective around what’s important.  My name is Disco Dave Wynn. Of all the conversations I've had in creating the Deeper Than Disco Podcast, one that I've most looked forward to sharing is this weeks episode. Have you ever felt judged or shamed by others, or yourself, because of how you look, for things you've said or done? I'm guessing that the answer is yes, because you're a human being! Therefore, I cannot encourage you strongly enough to listen for what you might catch for yourself because there is SO much value here in this conversation. Dr Suzi Macpherson is one of the most courageous people I know. 💪 Demonstrated by her allowing me to share this. ❤️ You see Suzi was born with Spina bifida and we talk about the burden of her physical disability, the literal and emotional scars that she was left with.  One of the many things I love about Suzi is her openness and she straight off the bat shares openly about the deep work she’s done through Therapy AND we discuss the work we did together.  Yet Suzi has a wicked sense of humour and brings light to this remarkable conversation.  A few incredibly valuable themes emerged: 💡The Japanese Art of Kintsugi - How this can be a transformative metaphor for how you see your own scars. 💡The distinction Serving vs Pleasing - Why it's crucial to have people in your life who are willing to embrace deep discomfort to support and ultimately serve you. 💡Adopting a Generous Mindset - I love when Suzi mentions this and that is truly her.  And the transformation that she’s been through in becoming generous with herself, beginning to see her gifts, and recognising her super powers, is truly remarkable. You’re about to hear me speak to Clare Jevons. Clare and I have known each other for some time and this was a really inspiring and equally humbling conversation for me. One of the most memorable and remarkable peak moments in my career to date came via her Music Mapping experience. She lives a huge amount of her life outside having been involved in the UK festival scene for many years. She’s a super talented seamstress, set and event designer, festival director a yogi and a coach! You’ll hear Clare share the huge breakthroughs, the healing and the profound impact that her Music Mapping Experience had on her and how in her words it changed her life.  My name is Disco Dave Wynn. You’re going to hear me speaking with Chris Thomas, a truly outstanding young man and is one of the most remarkable people I’ve ever met!  When Chris was 18 he lost his Dad, completely unexpectedly and felt able to take on the running of his Dad’s business. Overnight he went from working in a shoe shop to managing a high 6 figure Telecoms & Print business his Dad built from the ground up.  4 years later we meet and he’s doing his best while: 😵‍💫 Still trying to resolve his Dad’s estate, with no end in sight.  😨 Managing rather than leading the business, not trusting himself to not be involved in everything because he didn't know any better.  🫣 Nervous every time he leaves home to walk up the hill to his car because the image of his as CEO doesn’t match that of the boy still living at home with his Mum. He didn't realise he needed a guide until I showed up. In our early days of working together we empowered him and freed up 80% of his time.  Time that he could and did use to explore who he was beyond his own ideas of who he should be. Our music mapping experience together still brings up emotion in me because we got to really connect with who he is at his very core.  And what music REALLY means to him. The music took us there.  And it was immensely profound.  I love this man and it’s a real honour and privilege to be able to support him on his adventure in his endeavours. Carol Gray runs a long standing family business called Bon Accord Training. We discuss the challenges of being a 2nd generation family business owner AND middle child. This is so much fun! I couldn’t contain my excitement right from the off in this conversation! The Carol I know today is immensely fun, playful and joyful, so it’s so hard to imagine her being someone that sought validation from others, someone who’s thinking always started with negativity, was stuck in her ways, managing rather than leading her business, pleasing rather than serving her team. Her transformation has been incredible.  My name is Disco Dave Wynn. Gerry McGread - I love this man. We trained together with an incredible organisation called The Mindful Talent Coaching Academy and really bonded. We have stayed in touch ever since. Gerry’s from Glasgow, has the “Glasgae banter” and is part of a family business that specialise in outdoor media that he operates from the beautiful surroundings of Bali! He also works as a coach and when Gerry and I sat down, well, stood up for our Music Mapping Experience together, it was a really poignant time in his life because he’d just lot his cousin. Someone that was like a brother to him. It’s so humbling for me to know that the experience we shared together was incredibly healing, at a really challenging and emotional time for him. So, thank you Gerry, I hope you enjoy us reflecting on that beautiful experience together. I am immensely grateful we got to share this deeply touching and impactful EPIC moment together! In this episode you’re going to hear me speaking to Dave James, a colourful character with an equally colourful background as a former nurse, podiatrist, business owner, photographer, videographer and now international speaker and professional coach. He has evolved so much since I first met him! He's been through some incredibly tough stuff that you won't see on his official bio, but you wouldn't know it hearing him speak today. It's a real gift to bring lightness to the things most people find it really challenging to talk about. This is part of the gift of "Big Dave".In my experience of Dave he is always fun to talk to and this conversation is no different. I’m immensely grateful to Dave because it was a conversation with him that lead to some profound insight around the possibility that I could create through combining music and coaching together and ultimately the Music Mapping Experience, so thank you Dave!
