Description

The message of the Gospel is attacked every day by restless efforts and empty philosophies of this world. That is why Defending Christianity isn’t about making meaningless arguments or attempting to provoke empty debates– it is about preserving the redeeming message of the cross of Christ by using logic and reason to communicate why Christianity best explains reality.

Also, please check out the Defending Christianity Blog (defendingchristianityblog.org) for articles on all things related to Christianity and Apologetics!

With the direction that our culture is going, it’s no surprise that students raised in a Christian home for most or all of their lives are leaving the faith once they go to college. Young people in the church have been told to “just have faith” their entire lives. But what happens when social media provides them with what seems to be good reasons to believe that God doesn’t exist? Who will they listen to after a while? After all, most high school and college students spend more time on social media a week than they do at church. What’s going to happen when they don’t have the answers they need because their church told them that they shouldn’t ask questions? The responsibility to equip our students with answers to intellectually ground their faith falls on the church and the parents.Today, Stand to Reason’s Tim Barnett joins the show once more, and we’ll discuss engaging the minds of our students, what that looks like, and some ways to start doing it, so parents, pastors, youth pastors, Sunday school teachers, and anyone who has some influence over students in our churches listen up because this one is for you.Timestamps:Why is this relevant? Many might be surprised to hear that there is a lot of debate surrounding the messages of Jesus and Paul. Some scholars will attest that the two messages are at odds with one another. Is this the case? What implications does that have for the Christian faith if it's true? That’s going to be our topic for today, and to discuss it I have Dr. Marvin Pate.Specifically, in relation to the Apostle Paul, Dr. Pate has written books including The End of the Age Has Come: The Theology of Paul and Apostle of the Last Days. When you look at what skeptics are saying about the Christian faith, often you will hear the argument that Jesus never claimed to be God. In this episode, we are going to be talking about how Jesus claimed to be divine in order to show that he really did make the claim. We have Mikel Del Rosario joining us to talk about the subject. Mikel helps Christians explain their faith with courage and compassion. He’s a doctoral student in the New Testament department at Dallas Theological Seminary, and he is the author of Accessible Apologetics. The culture's hostility toward God, Christians, and the Bible has rapidly increased in the last 20-30 years. This has caused confusion in the Church concerning how it engages. Lucky for us, there’s been a game-changer of a book written on the topic of cultural engagement to help the Church see what biblical cultural engagement looks like. The book is Culture Intelligence: Living for God in a Diverse, Pluralistic World and was written by Dr. Darrell Bock, who also happens to be our guest today in this two-part episode!Dr. Darrell Bock is Executive Director of Cultural Engagement at the Hendricks Center for Leadership and Senior Research Professor of New Testament Studies at Dallas Theological Seminary.Order your copy of Cultural IntelligenceCheck out the Table PodcastIf you enjoy this podcast and want others to hear about it, please go to this link to leave a 5-star review!!
