The Michigan Wolverines are 5-2 on the season coming off of a solid home win over the Washington Huskies at Michigan Stadium and scheduled to face Jonathan Smith’s 3-4 Michigan State Spartans at Spartan Stadium at 7:30 p.m. ET Saturday. The Spartans have lost four straight games after three straight wins to open the season and are coming off of a 38-13 loss to the now second ranked Indiana Hoosiers at Memorial Stadium in Bloomington, Indiana. On Monday, video footage surfaced of a timeless moment in the Michigan vs. Michigan State rivalry, footage that showed former Wolverines linebacker Devin Bush’s 2018 clash with a long line of Spartans players near the Spartans’ center field logo. Many fans noticed Michigan head coach Moore in the video for the first time ever as he was shown doing his best to prevent the situation from escalating.https://gainzmedia.com/podcasts/detroit-lions-run-wild-and-msu-v-u-of-m-preview-s5-ep2/

New England Patriots reportedly targeting Detroit Lions' Terrell Williams as next DCAnother Detroit Lions assistant is reportedly close to receiving a promotion from a different team.According to a CBS report on Tuesday, the New England Patriots are "targeting" Lions defensive line coach and defensive run game coordinator Terrell Williams as their new defensive coordinator under first-year coach Mike Vrabel. Williams joined the Lions as defensive line coach last offseason after spending 2018-23 in the same role for the Tennessee Titans, where he used to work under Vrabel.Williams spent six seasons with the Titans and previously coached the defensive line for the Oakland Raiders and Miami Dolphins, where he spent one season working with Lions head coach Dan Campbell, after spending over a decade as a defensive line coach for college teams.Ben Johnson replacement: 5 candidates to watch for Detroit Lions offensive coordinatorBen Johnson is headed to the Chicago Bears as head coach, and the Detroit Lions are looking for a new offensive coordinator to replace him.Lions coach Dan Campbell said Monday he will consider both in-house and external candidates for the job, and wants someone who will execute his vision while maximizing Jared Goff's potential on offense."I don’t see philosophy changing," Campbell said. "A couple of things will get tweaked ... because you want it to be kind of their flavor, their style with it but yet what I want is what we’re going to do. And what we’re about, and what Goff’s about and the runners, and what we are on defense and the nature of the way we play."#OhioState #CFP #NationalChampionship #OnePride
The Brooklyn Nets had more players missing than available, with 10 players on the injury report and just eight on the bench at Barclays Center on Wednesday. The Detroit Pistons capitalized with one of their biggest wins of the season — by both margin, and significance. They defeated the Nets, 113-98, and Pistons officially have a winning record (19-18 overall) for the first time this season. It's also their first time being over .500 after the 35-game mark of the season since 2019. They’re one of the NBA’s hottest teams, winning five straight, eight of nine and 10 of 13. It’s a significant milestone for a franchise just a year removed from its worst season in franchise history. They’ve already surpassed last season’s win total by five games with 45 games remaining on the schedule, and are well on track to make the playoffs for the first time in six years. #Detroit Lions #OnePride #NFL #PLAYOFFS

Detroit Lions 2023 Hype TrainAre the Detroit Lions Super Bowl Bound? Dan Campbell reacted to the hype this week, can the Lions actually match the national media buzz?https://www.freep.com/story/sports/nfl/lions/2023/08/08/detroit-lions-nfl-new-york-giants-ratchet-up-competition-joint-practice-training-camp/70551750007/ Practice? We talking about practice?Indeed we are, and with all due respect to Detroit casino legend Allen Iverson, Tuesday's Detroit Lions-New York Giants joint practice felt like something a little more to some of the parties involved.Lions coach Dan Campbell came to the podium for his morning news conference sounding like he had ingested double the copious amount of caffeine he usually scarfs down in a day. Undrafted rookie cornerback Starling Thomas got into a shoving match after losing his helmet on the first play of the special teams period. And when all 180 or so players from both teams convened for a red zone period at the end of practice, Jared Goff sidled up next to Alex Anzalone and asked a very important question."He’s like, 'Hey, how’d you guys do over there?'" Anzalone told the Free Press after the first of the Lions' two joint workouts with the Giants. "You get a vibe and a feel of how you guys did, and you got to wait till you watch the film really and who really dominated and everything like that, but they hit a run on you, you're like, '(Expletive)!' It’s like, 'Damnit.' And that’s why these practices are so good is cause it’s really like a game without game consequences."Teddy Bridgewater Signs With The Lions Good sign veteran QB wanted by
Thursday night began the 2023 NFL draft which took place in Kansas City. The home of the Super Bowl Champion Chiefs, with the Dolphins forfeiting their pick due to #BradyGate there would only be 31 first round picks. The Detroit Lions held two picks originally at 6 and 18 but made a trade with the Arizona Cardinals to move back to 12. The Detroit Lions also picked up a second round pick at #34 which is basically Round 2 Pick 3. Much has been made on Detroit Sports Talk radio about the Lions picking a Running Back and a Linebacker in the first round. The NFL draft was thrown into chaos when the Houston Texans moved up and picked CJ Stroud and Will Anderson back to back. The entire draft boards of several NFL teams were blown up by this. The Lions seemed to make it look like Bijan Robinson was their draft target, but he was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons at 8. The NFL draft was considered lighter on generational talent that could shake the league and make a team better immediately. Many of the big name players were taken quickly after the Cardinals and Lions made their trade. The Colts, however, selected Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson with the No. 4 pick.Levis' left toe that caused him to miss two games last year was "problematic " for one team that considered him, ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported Thursday.Levis, who is 6-foot-4 and 229 pounds, has drawn comparisons to Buffalo Bills star Josh Allen with his strong arm and above-average mobility. Levis spent the first two years of his college career at Penn State before transferring to Kentucky as a junior. His production fell off last season as a senior, when he passed for 2,406 yards with 19 touchdowns and 10 interceptions after throwing for 2,826 yards, 24 touchdowns and 13 interceptions in 2021. Detroit Lions land RB David Montgomery in free agency, say good-bye to Jamaal WilliamsThe Detroit Lions will have a new a workhorse in their backfield in 2023.The Lions reached agreement on a three-year, $18 million contract with Chicago Bears free agent running back David Montgomery late Tuesday night, according to multiple reports.Montgomery's signing, which can become official at 4 p.m. Wednesday, likely means the end of Jamaal Williams' time in Detroit.Williams led the Lions with 1,066 yards rushing and the NFL with 17 rushing touchdowns last season. A fan favorite in Detroit, Williams became the first Lion to top 1,000 yards rushing since Reggie Bush in 2013 and broke Barry Sanders' franchise single-season touchdown record. He said after the season he hoped to sign a long-term extension with the Lions, and the two sides met to discuss a new contract at the NFL combine earlier this month. In Montgomery, the Lions believe they upgraded their offense with one of the most productive and durable backs on the market.A third-round pick out of Iowa State in 2019, Montgomery topped 200 carries in each of his four seasons with the Bears. He ran for career-highs of 1,070 yards and eight touchdowns in 2020, topped 800 yards each of the past two seasons and has averaged 3.9 yards per carry on nearly 1,000 attempts for his career.https://www.freep.com/story/sports/nfl/lions/2023/03/14/detroit-lions-david-montgomery-nfl-free-agency/70010269007/https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/detroit-lions/jamaal-williams-21876/?ref=trending-playershttps://www.spotrac.com/nfl/detroit-lions/cap/The Detroit Lions have $20,630,664.00 in cap room still according to spotrac.comTop Free Agents 2023 NFL Free Agency-https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-2023-nfl-free-agency-tracker-cuts-trades-signingsD'Onta ForemanKareem HuntDamien HarrisJerick McKinnonJeff Wilson Jr.: Re-signed with Miami Dolphins (two years, $8,200,000)Rashaad Penny: Signed with Philadelphia Eagles (TBD)Alexander MattisonRaheem Mostert: Re-signed with Miami Dolphins (two years, $5,600,000)Samaje Perine: Signed with Denver Broncos (two years)Craig Reynolds: Re-signed with Detroit Lions (TBD)Mike Boone: Signed with Houston Texans (two years, $3,100,000)Matt Breida: Re-signed with New York Giants (one year, $2,300,000)Keith Smith (FB): Re-signed with Atlanta Falcons (TBD)Jakob Johnson (FB): Re-signed with Las Vegas Raiders (one year)Michael Burton (FB): Signed with Denver Broncos (one year)Travis Homer: Signed with Chicago Bears (two years)
Detroit Lions fans were going nuts, screaming and chanting, trying to blow the roof off Ford Field. It was loud and electric and, well, just so much dang fun.“Detroit feels it,” Aidan Hutchinson said after the Lions’ 34-23 victory Sunday over the Minnesota Vikings. “They feel we're coming along right now; and we're gonna make this playoff push at the end and do everything we can to get in, and it takes one game at a time.”Yes, everybody is feelin’ it. Because this feels so different. The vibe around the Lions is unmistakable — this team that has won five of six games to make it to 6-7.
