Every few years you get to play at a very special party. Back in late November 2014, The Sanctuary Music Festival on a private island in the Gulf of Thailand was just that party. 48 hours on a paradise island with over 100 like-minded souls and a gem of a sound system built on the beach. I had the honour of playing the sunrise set from 5am to 7am on the first night and this mix is in some way a recreation of what I played that wonderful morning. Featuring a selection of fantastic tracks not only from 2014's bumper crop but also some real deep gems from the previous years that sit waiting in your bag for moments like this. The inspiration behind this mix is a club in Singapore called Home Club. Every city around the world has a club that is regarded as truly underground. There to cultivate grass roots music and there without compromise to stay true to the music that it believes in. Home Club was that club in Singapore. And after 9 great years the club has recently pulled the plug and closed it doors, ready to evolve as a venue into the next chapter of its journey. 9 years is a long time in club land and over the years the club built its reputation around truly underground music - Indie, Techno, dub step and drum & bass. As Digging Deep we enjoyed playing there many times, often to packed houses and it is a chapter of my Djing life that will I never forget. Much respect goes to Kelvin Tan and Roy Ng and all the crew that worked there because without their passion for great music and supporting the local scene, club venues like Home Club would never keep this side music alive. Everyone has a Home - a place where they feel the most connected, the most free and even the most alive. Wherever that place is and whatever the music you are into - give it your full support. It makes all the difference.I probably would never have played half the tracks in this mix at Home Club at the time but they are tracks that should have been played there as they would have tested that awesome sound system and taken you on a proper journey. As techno and deep house continue to find truly inspired common ground, this late night club mix really reflects the style of deep house & techno I am enjoying right now. 125BPM from start to finish, rolling bass lines, complex percussion and beautiful melodies all intertwined to great effect. Dedicated to my wonderful wife and all the amazing women around the world who fight so hard to bring beautiful loving children into this world, I hope this deep melancholic journey goes a little way to capturing their story. A partial recreation of the closing set I played at our 3rd Birthday party at Home Club in Singapore in November. Replete with slightly dodgy mixing and deliberately full of crowd pleasers. I Managed to resist the temptation to replicate the self indulgent filter sweeps and dodgy eq-ing from the night but this is still probably one to listen to loud when you need a pick me up. Not really Sunday afternoon fodder.
