Alright gang, this week we're aiming to put the social back into social media.  In the first of a two part conversation with Dr Lauren Serpico we dig into the pros and cons of remote working. We're talking procrastination, productivity, accountability, and perfectionism.   But our main focus is on a major issue when it comes to social media and mental health. Chasing the unicorn. Also known as the detrimental pursuit of perfection. Social media as a measuring stick can be a real problem and a glaring example of how comparison really is the thief of joy.    Harnessing her education and experience Dr Lauren provides us some mindful, pro-active tools to combat this and to create a more immersive, communal experience online. Alright gang, this week we're joined by our final guest for the season, Audrey from the 'Anatomyth' podcast. Discussing her love for mythology along with her academic pursuit of medicine, Audrey digs into a fascinating project she's recently launched. Anatomyth is a pretty unique podcast that merges folk tales and lore from across the world with lesser known, contemporary medical conditions. A potent blend of education and entertainment that in this episode alone brings a varied collection of finds. From simulated labour pains and Celtic curses to facial cream that contains snake venom, this is dive into medicine and mythology is something that you don't want to miss. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/dimedout/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/dimedout/support
Alright gang, pulling from my travel memoir for the last time, we conclude my time in New York. Alongside my (not so) worldly musings on coffee, modern art and Yoko Ono, this episodes digs further into my battle with social anxiety & lone drinking. It also focuses on a globe trotting Australian I encountered. A woman who introduced me to giant alien spiders and Japanese restaurants. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/dimedout/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/dimedout/support
Alright gang, this week we're diving into my past. After rediscovering a travel memoir I was working on, but subsequently abandoned five years ago, I thought I'd read through the first couple of chapters that never were. The memoir was intended to cover the coast to coast adventure across America that eventually placed me in Central Texas. Digging into the first section of the first draft, we find a younger, more anxious, and socially uncertain version of myself navigating the streets of New York. Bushwick, Brooklyn to be precise. In this episode you can expect to find plenty of cringe-worthy thoughts. Overly descriptive writing. Anxiety. Catastrophizing. The facing of demons and even a little bit of poignant insight. Opening this memoir up after five years was a little daunting to say the least, but ultimately it proved that sometimes you really do need to look at where you were, to truly appreciate where you are. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/dimedout/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/dimedout/support

The value of having a mission statement. The validity of finding your calling, in your own time, in your own way. The importance of representation, reflection and identity in children's literature. The impact her story telling Youtube channel has had during the pandemic and so much more. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/dimedout/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/dimedout/support
Outside of giving me a solid introduction to the world of Dungeons & Dragons, Brad was kind enough to share his experiences with the game and how as a blind player, it's become such a positive hobby for him to pick up. In the episode we discuss how creating a detailed D&D character can be a great way to extend & explore your personality. How it can be an opportunity for others to relate to who you are, or to put yourself in somebodies boots. Figuratively and literally as I came to learn. We also touch upon how life has been for Brad since losing his sight, how D&D has given him a social channel that makes a huge difference & how this beloved RPG can be a developmental tool for children. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/dimedout/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/dimedout/support

Alright gang, this week we're digging into one of the strangest, creepiest rabbit holes on the internet. There are many theories regarding the identity and purpose of LHOHQ. Some believe it to be a hiding place for confidential material. Others think it's an alternative reality game or a gallery for avant grade digital art. Whatever it is, LHOHQ is a pretty strange, creepy and confusing labyrinth. Exploring its numerous layers, we put together a cut and paste collage of deep fake dancing, illegal weapon deals and the potential hidden agenda of build a bear workshop. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/dimedout/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/dimedout/support

This week I'm joined by Sapphire Geer, author of the book 'Survive". A challenging and touching memoir that recounts a truly remarkable, life changing experience. At the age of 11, Sapphire was left to survive starvation and the frigid elements of winter, amongst the Yukon wilderness.

Having published the book, Sapphire discusses surviving such a physical, mental and emotional experience. How she found herself in a place to confront the past and put her story into words and how she hopes her story will inspire others to speak out about their traumatic pasts and find healing as well. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/dimedout/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/dimedout/support
Alright gang, one of the things I've been working on recently is putting together a collection of music that was originally made for the podcast, but has evolved into something larger than just a 20 second transition. It's still in the works but I have a bunch of tracks ready and I wanted to give you a little preview of what to expect. The project is shaping up to be an EP/Mini Album with the tentative title of "Dimed Out Jamz". Musically speaking, it's a mix of lo-fi hip hop and ambient music with some jazz influences and a couple of psychedelic elements to add a little spice. Not sure on an ETA yet, but I will keep you posted in the meantime, enjoy this little sample platter. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/dimedout/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/dimedout/support
