Description
Disciples' Quest aims to help its listeners explore The Bible and develop a deeper understanding of living God's will for our lives. Our goal is not to present information from a perspective of teachers, but to walk with each other in discussions and knowledge building. Through sharing our own quests as disciples, it is our hope that other Christians will be blessed and inspired to learn along with us.
We will be going through the bible, having guests and discussing issues that are relevant to Christian life today.

In this episode we take a break from the book of Jonah as Justyn is absent. William and Emily talk about their thoughts about some of the scriptures around marriage and romantic love. Will has been asking different Christians what the purpose of marriage is. We share our thoughts on the different answers that were given to him.

In today's episode, Will, Justyn, and Emily discuss Philippians 2:12-18. We break down what it means to fear God, and how is it that we can be blameless and pure before him. We then discuss how much Paul gave to show that we would die for his faithfulness to Christ, and we are to do the same, and we are to stand out as believers, and take up his Word and his truth as our strength

Lights in the World
12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.
14 Do all things without grumbling or disputing, 15 that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, 16 holding fast to the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vain or labor in vain. 17 Even if I am to be poured out as a drink offering upon the sacrificial offering of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with you all. 18 Likewise you also should be glad and rejoice with me.
In today's episode, we interview a friend, Philip Kim. An immigrant from South Korea, he shares with us his journey with Christ, as well as many wise and insightful words on how we can keep Jesus at the center of our lives, and where the church in the west has fallen short of this goal.

In todays episode , Will, Emily, and Justyn discuss Philippians 2:1-11. We talk about how is it that we can be of the same mind, but also of the same heart, and talk about many examples throughout scripture where we see God pouring out his Love, and in the greatest example of this, sending his own Son, to be persecuted to save the sins of the world, although He was a man void of sin Himself.

2 Therefore if there is any encouragement in Christ, if any consolation of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any [a]affection and compassion, 2 make my joy complete [b]by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose. 3 Do nothing [c]from [d]selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility consider one another as more important than yourselves; 4 do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. 5 Have this attitude [e]in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, as He already existed in the form of God, did not consider equality with God something to be [f]grasped, 7 but [g]emptied Himself by taking the form of a bond-servant and [h]being born in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death: death [i]on a cross. 9 For this reason also God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
In today's episode, the team look into Philippians, reading verse 19-30. We discuss Paul's willingness to spread the Gospel with Boldness and without fear, and how is it that us as disciples can also share the Truth in similar boldness, but keeping a kind heart as Christ had.
We then draw apart what we can from the phrase Paul wrote "For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain." and get into a great discussion on what impact that has on our lives.

19 for I know that this will turn out for my deliverance through your prayers and the provision of the Spirit of Jesus Christ, 20 according to my eager expectation and hope, that I will not be put to shame in anything, but that with all boldness, Christ will even now, as always, be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death.
To Live Is Christ
21 For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain. 22 But if I am to live on in the flesh, this will mean fruitful labor for me; and I do not know which to choose. 23 But I am hard-pressed from both directions, having the desire to depart and be with Christ, for that is very much better; 24 yet to remain on in the flesh is more necessary for your sakes. 25 Convinced of this, I know that I will remain and continue with you all for your progress and joy in the faith, 26 so that your pride in Christ Jesus may be abundant because of me by my coming to you again.
27 Only conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or remain absent, I will hear about you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel; 28 and in no way alarmed by your opponents—which is a sign of destruction for them, but of salvation for you, and this too, from God. 29 For to you it has been granted for Christ’s sake, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer on His behalf, 30 experiencing the same conflict which you saw in me, and now hear to be in me.
In today's episode, the team begins their look into Philippians, reading verse 1-18. We see the amount of thanksgiving and praise that Paul has, despite being in prison at the time. Its a humbling and wise opening to this amazing book, showing us how we can all learn to give God all the glory, even when we seem to be losing.

In today's episode, we have our first guest, Pastor Tim Harris of Christian Fellowship Chapel here in Winnipeg, MB. We ask him some opening questions, why he chose to become a pastor, obstacles he has faced, and issues he has seen within todays church culture, being the confusion of God's love. What that really entails, how we can apply that as disciples, and how we can bring people into the church despite the ever dividing country.

In this final episode of our exploration into Ephesians, we discussed the end of Ephesians 6, versus 10-24. In this discussion, we dissect the armour of God, and pull apart as much meaning as we can from each piece of it. The Belt of Truth, The Breastplate of Righteousness, The Shoes which are The Gospel of Peace, The Shield of Faith, The Helmet of Salvation, and The Sword of the Spirit.
We then make our closing remarks on Ephesians. Thank you to all who listened to this series!

The Whole Armor of God
10Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints— 19and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, 20for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.
A Gracious Greeting
21But that you also may know my affairs and how I am doing, Tychicus, a beloved brother and faithful minister in the Lord, will make all things known to you; 22whom I have sent to you for this very purpose, that you may know our affairs, and that he may comfort your hearts.
23Peace to the brethren, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 24Grace be with all those who love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity. Amen.
In todays episode, Emily and Will start the episode with a very special announcement. Next, the gang have a great discussion on Ephesians 6:1-9. We (as three non-parents) talk about how we see the important role of a parent in a child's life, how they should conduct themselves according to the Word, as well as the obedience a child must have to their parent. Next we touch on the significance of the master-slave relationship. What that may have looked like at the time, and why Paul chose to use this example

Children and Parents
1Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2“Honor your father and mother,” which is the first commandment with promise: 3“that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.”
4And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.
Bondservants and Masters
5Bondservants, be obedient to those who are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in sincerity of heart, as to Christ; 6not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but as bondservants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart, 7with goodwill doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men, 8knowing that whatever good anyone does, he will receive the same from the Lord, whether he is a slave or free.
9And you, masters, do the same things to them, giving up threatening, knowing that your own Master also is in heaven, and there is no partiality with Him.
In this ninth installment of our series on Ephesians, we cover Ephesians 5:15-33. We discuss why it is that these days seem to be filled with a tremendous amount of sin and temptation. How can we live daily serving the Lord, and how can we make the absolute most of that time?
Further on we discuss the role of a wife in a relationship, as well as the role of a husband. Great conversation ensues as we contemplate these ideas, and what Paul was really trying to get across in these verses, with the addition of focusing on Christ' relationship with the church.

In this eighth installment of our series on Ephesians, we cover Ephesians 5:1-14. We discuss how Paul was warning us of the danger of falling into our temptations and lustful desires. how is it that we as young Christians can avoid falling into traps the devil may have for us?
We also touch on what it means to be walking in the light, and how as believers we are to avoid the darkness, and bring people along with us into the light.

5 Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children; 2 and walk in love, just as Christ also loved [a]you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God [b]as a fragrant aroma.
3 But sexual immorality [c]or any impurity or greed must not even be mentioned among you, as is proper among [d]saints; 4 and there must be no filthiness [e]or foolish talk, or vulgar joking, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks. 5 For this you know with certainty, that no sexually immoral or [f]impure or greedy person, which [g]amounts to an idolater, has an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.
6 See that no one deceives you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the [h]sons of disobedience. 7 Therefore do not become partners with them; 8 for you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord; walk as children of light 9 (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), 10 [i]as you try to learn what is pleasing to the Lord. 11 Do not participate in the useless deeds of darkness, but instead even expose them; 12 for it is disgraceful even to speak of the things which are done by them in secret. 13 But all things become visible when they are exposed by the light, for everything that becomes visible is light. 14 For this reason [j]it says,
“Awake, sleeper,
And arise from the dead,
And Christ will shine on you.”
In this seventh installment of our series on Ephesians, we cover Ephesians 4:17-3. We discuss what is means to walk as Christ walked, how we should renew our minds and spirit to be aligned with Christ' calling, and how important it is as believers to rid of our selfish, greedy, flithy desires.

17So I say this, and affirm in the Lord, that you are to no longer walk just as the Gentiles also walk, in the futility of their minds, 18being darkened in their understanding, excluded from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardness of their heart; 19and they, having become callous, have given themselves up to indecent behavior for the practice of every kind of impurity with greediness. 20But you did not learn Christ in this way, 21if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught in Him, just as truth is in Jesus, 22that, in reference to your former way of life, you are to rid yourselves of the old self, which is being corrupted in accordance with the lusts of deceit, 23and that you are to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, 24and to put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.
25Therefore, ridding yourselves of falsehood, SPEAK TRUTH EACH ONE OF YOU WITH HIS NEIGHBOR, because we are parts of one another. 26BE ANGRY, AND YET DO NOT SIN; do not let the sun go down on your anger, 27and do not give the devil an opportunity. 28The one who steals must no longer steal; but rather he must labor, producing with his own hands what is good, so that he will have something to share with the one who has need. 29Let no unwholesome word come out of your mouth, but if there is any good word for edification according to the need of the moment, say that, so that it will give grace to those who hear. 30Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. 31All bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and slander must be removed from you, along with all malice. 32Be kind to one another, compassionate, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you.
In this sixth installment of our series in Ephesians, we cover Ephesians 4:1-16. We dive into how it is we can discover God's calling on our lives, and how God wants to use each and evry one of us to further his kingdom, by becoming disciples, and using the gifts he's given us. Speaking of gifts, we discover what this chapter means when it talks about "Christ's gift" to us. Join us for the last segment where we talk about how God is the body, with Christ as the head, and all of us forming the many other parts of this body.

1Therefore I, the prisoner of the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called, 2with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, 3being diligent to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 4There is one body and one Spirit, just as you also were called in one hope of your calling; 5one Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6one God and Father of all who is over all and through all and in all.
7But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift. 8Therefore it says,
“When He ascended on high,
He led captive the captives,
And He gave gifts to people.”
9(Now this expression, “He ascended,” what does it mean except that He also had descended into the lower parts of the earth? 10He who descended is Himself also He who ascended far above all the heavens, so that He might fill all things.) 11And He gave some as apostles, some as prophets, some as evangelists, some as pastors and teachers, 12for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the building up of the body of Christ; 13until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ. 14As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of people, by craftiness in deceitful scheming; 15but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, that is, Christ, 16from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by what every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love.
In this fifth installment of our series in Ephesians, we cover Ephesians 3. We discuss the mystery of Christ! What this means, and how we can apply it spiritually. We touch on Jesus bringing grace to all people, of every creed, race, and culture. How as disciples can we try to reflect the ideas of chapter 3 into our lives? 3 For this reason I, Paul, the prisoner of Christ Jesus for the sake of you Gentiles—
2 Surely you have heard about the administration of God’s grace that was given to me for you, 3 that is, the mystery made known to me by revelation, as I have already written briefly. 4 In reading this, then, you will be able to understand my insight into the mystery of Christ, 5 which was not made known to people in other generations as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to God’s holy apostles and prophets. 6 This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus.
7 I became a servant of this gospel by the gift of God’s grace given me through the working of his power. 8 Although I am less than the least of all the Lord’s people, this grace was given me: to preach to the Gentiles the boundless riches of Christ, 9 and to make plain to everyone the administration of this mystery, which for ages past was kept hidden in God, who created all things. 10 His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms, 11 according to his eternal purpose that he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord. 12 In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence. 13 I ask you, therefore, not to be discouraged because of my sufferings for you, which are your glory.
A Prayer for the Ephesians
In this fourth installment of our series in Ephesians, we cover Ephesians 2:11-22. We briefly discuss the possible meaning behind the emphasis of circumcision in the bible, how God made a consorted effort to emphasize to coalescence of the Jews and Gentiles under Christ' redemption.
How is it that Christ sacrifice gave hope to all who believe? And why is it that God says that Christ is our cornerstone?
Found at the answer to that, and join us for more discussion as we wrap up the last section of chapter two.

11 Therefore, remember that formerly you who are Gentiles by birth and called “uncircumcised” by those who call themselves “the circumcision” (which is done in the body by human hands)— 12 remember that at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world. 13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ.
14 For he himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, 15 by setting aside in his flesh the law with its commands and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new humanity out of the two, thus making peace, 16 and in one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility. 17 He came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near. 18 For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit.
19 Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household, 20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. 21 In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. 22 And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.
In this third installment of our series on Ephesians, we cover Ephesians 2:1-10. We discuss how God's grace far exceeds any other, how his boundless love and forgiveness is even enough for the worst of sinners. Nothing we could do would ever bring us ultimate hapiness or salvation. Only through God's grace we will be saved.

And [a]you [b]were dead [c]in your offenses and sins, 2 in which you previously walked according to the [d]course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the [e]sons of disobedience. 3 Among them [f]we too all previously lived in the lusts of our flesh, [g]indulging the desires of the flesh and of the [h]mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the rest. 4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead [i]in our wrongdoings, made us alive together [j]with Christ (by grace you have been saved), 6 and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the ages to come He might show the [k]boundless riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and [l]this is not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.
In this first installment of our series on Ephesians, we search for the meaning found within the first 14 verses. We discuss God's plan for our salvation, what the "mystery" of his good will might mean, and why is is that God chooses to forgive us, why he daily gives us a never-ending abundance of grace.

1 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God,
To God’s holy people in Ephesus,[a] the faithful in Christ Jesus:
2 Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Praise for Spiritual Blessings in Christ
3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. 4 For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love 5 he[b] predestined us for adoption to sonship[c] through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will— 6 to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves. 7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace 8 that he lavished on us. With all wisdom and understanding, 9 he[d] made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, 10 to be put into effect when the times reach their fulfillment—to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ.
11 In him we were also chosen,[e] having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will, 12 in order that we, who were the first to put our hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory. 13 And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.

Welcome to our season three final! Today we look at Romans 5:12-21 in which Paul compares Adam and Jesus. While Adam's actions brought sin for many, Jesus' sacrifice brought free grace for all. It is only through Jesus that we are made right with God.

Romans 5 verses 1-11 is discussed as we look at what Paul had to say about salvation. It is an amazing thing that God, who is perfect, would send his son to die for all of us unholy people. God’s grace is something we need to rejoice more about.
