I love being open minded especially when it comes to music. But when life gets crazy I find I revert back to my youth when I loved rockin tracks, hard licks, wailing guitar riffs and butt-kicking sounds. 4/16/15 Today's approach was a bit different as we celebrated Gentle Giant's 43rd anniversary of Three Friends by playing the entire album & even a bit of Acquiring the Taste. Then we gave Ciccada a listen, starting with the 2015 release and backtracking to the 2010 album. This is PROOF that there is still great PROG being made and there's no excuse to listen to anything that isn't truly lovely! Following that we had some of the very BEST that Kansas ever made, two tracks from Focus as a request, & finally ending on a cerebral note with Supersister. The variety of bands was less, but where of the highest quality you could ask for in my opinion. This week is the 44th anniversary of In the Land of Grey & Pink by Caravan and the 43rd anniversary of Matching Mole's album! Certainly that is reason to revisit & celebrate Canterbury music again. I've been itching to come back to this after a year of discovering. What I have found is that this sub-genre is even more alluring than I originally realized which you'll notice that in my enthusiasm and lusty ramblings about music and society's acceptance of such luscious sounds. I've been on the move a lot the last two weeks with going to work a bit extra, running around town and then of course a trip out of town here and there....all the while I was of COURSE listening to delightful music and wishing you were there with me to enjoy it. Well, if you can't be with me, then I'll bring it to you! I've played for you today some amazing music but also a dedication to John Renbourn of Pentangle who passed on March 26th. Also I've played a dedication to Joni Mitchell who has been in intensive care unit of the hospital after being found unconscious. Our love and thoughts sent to her to get well soon. We lost another great one this past week. I'm heartbroken that I only recently learned to adore their music and I'll no longer hear this man make new tunes OR perform live. This is a revisit with new tracks and new albums to the old favorite of mine....United Kingdom's Underground PROG scene. A year ago almost to the day (Feb 21) we lost an amazing talent in Francesco Di Giacomo. His artistry made Banco more beautiful than one can imagine in a PROG band and yet we got to enjoy them for many years. Anyone fortunate enough to see them perform was truly honored. Sadly, I never will, but I still celebrate the magnificence that he was for us all. Then in honor of global prog, I included a lovely diverse bouquet of music that will also delight your ears and heart.
