Written by Robert Bly, this book is a key source for the mythopoetic men’s movement – which has enjoyed a resurgence in popularity as it’s discovered by a new generation of men… like myself.

At around 56:00 in The Trouble with Gender one of the primary reasons male homosexuality is so vilified is because of the intersection between homopobia and gender violence, where "gayness" is equated with feminine aspects that society then belittles. There was a great feminist article unpacking this I wish I could find but it speaks to your guests point, that if we did not treat women as a lesser gender in society, being a "partner" to a man would not therefore be a demoralizing thing. Men cannot share non-sexual (or sexual) touch in our culture without such a bias because they are compared to the "other" gender for doing so. So while it's beneficial to share this touch, it cannot be fully broken down until gender binaries are also... "Homophobia: the fear that gay men will treat you the way you treat women" Anyway, great podcast, both episodes are excellent! Mahalo
