Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!This week Pip is joined for a second time by the zen master actor ED SKREIN!Dedicated listeners will remember the refrain of Ed's original appearance on here - "Why the fuck not?" - a mantra that will hopefully have provided a nice ass-kicking to get things done, or motivation to make some things happen. Well here is the very cool, calm and collected Ed back again to chat about so much but somewhat centrally revolving around the actorial sciences. They have a bunch of shared ground, and it's really nice to hear what Ed's been up to since that initial appearance, and what life has looked like since the beginning of the journey back in 2010 or so. A huge amount of ground that cannot be synopsised here so just jump in and trust that you'll enjoy the ride. And peep the first appearance if you missed it too!PIP'S PATREON PAGE if you're of a supporting natureIMDBINSTAGRAMTWITTERREBEL MOONI USED TO BE FAMOUSED ON DPP EP 94 Part 1ED ON DPP EP 94 Part 2SPEECH DEVELOPMENT WEBSTOREPIP TWITCH • (music stuff)PIP INSTAGRAMPIP TWITTERPIP PATREONPIP IMDBPOD BIBLE Hosted on Acast. Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!This week Pip is joined by return awesome guest, comic, podcaster and author SOFIE HAGEN!A fantastic meeting of minds for second time round, as Pip catches up with Sofie to talk about all things that have happened since the first go around! Although it's very fair to say that a good amount of chat is devoted to their new book 'Will I Ever Have Sex Again?', which is some essential reading for a huge amount of people. More people than Sofie initially thought, in fact. So expect some goodness including social expectations, writing a book on a subject that you don't see books about, messy relationships, gender and sexuality and 'the club'. You'll get it. Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!This week Pip is joined by YOU! The listeners... It's an April 2024 edition of ASK PIP!I wouldn't dare blow the spot on what you're about to hear BUT - just so you're aware of what zones might get a look-in, you can expect to hear topics including: actor pay and how much some get, teacakes vs hot cross buns, casting historically, Shogun, The Scroobius and how 2024 could see the Summer Of Scroobius (for quick reference for the drinkers among you, it's Pepsi Max mixed with Slingsbury Gin), hot sandwiches, and MCCS Superspies. It's like a solo sober Drunkcast. Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!This week Pip is joined by friend and comrade in music and life, B. DOLAN!You will have surely heard if not every appearance from B on here, then at least the previous one which went into what life has looked like for him since the pandemic. In a nutshell, it's been a period of immense and continued re-invention and almost re-introduction to the world at large, coming out of surgery and therapy which was necessary to avoid life changing injury. Chances are that a lot of you will know B from rap music and tours over the years, and a lot might know him from Twitch, but either way (and if neither, too!), you're in for a sureshot as he and Pip catch up on life, music, album making, tours and how that looks these days, yoga, the world itself on the whole, and outlooks. Enjoy, and peep the rest of the of the past appearances too - it's a hell of an arc.PIP'S PATREON PAGE if you're of a supporting natureONLINEINSTAGRAMTWITTERBANDCAMPPATREONROOTS SPECIALTY YOGA (US)CENTRED SPIRIT YOGA (UK)SPEECH DEVELOPMENT WEBSTOREPIP TWITCH • (music stuff)PIP INSTAGRAMPIP TWITTERPIP PATREONPIP IMDBPOD BIBLE Hosted on Acast. Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!This week Pip is joined by the positive ray of musical light that is BOBBY VYLAN!Speaking of rays of light, the Bobby Vylan album 'Humble As The Sun' comes out on April 5th, so keep that on your agenda. As you know with Distraction Pieces and the work Pip does / has done, the conversations usually dip in and out of music and acting (but not limited too, of course) - and this week, we have a wonderful chat with Bobby of the band of the same name, which goes into the music but also into the very soil from which the music comes... The physical, political and mental landscape, the world around us, and where we're all going. A fascinating conversation which will be of immediate interest to BV fans but also anyone and everyone who is yet to become acquainted. And for those folks, this is the perfect way in. Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!This week Pip is joined by UK acting treasure WUNMI MOSAKU!Proper acting business right here with this episode - this is total nectar for those who appreciate the visual arts and the world of TV and cinema. Wunmi has been holding it down on the acting circuit for a minute, having worked through the ranks of television staples and home favourites, leading all the way up to heavyweight movie work and huge series. We're talking Marvel Comic Universe by way of Loki, for one. But you will likely have seen Wunmi in the ace Lovecraft Country, Black Mirror, or heard Wunmi in the VERY worth tracking down Scavnegers Reign. So enjoy this one - it goes to some enriching and nourishing places, and is essential listening obviously for Wunmi heads, but also those who appreciate the craft and deep chats around it.PIP'S PATREON PAGE if you're of a supporting natureLOKIHIS HOUSELOVECRAFT COUNTRYIMDBINSTAGRAMSPEECH DEVELOPMENT WEBSTOREPIP TWITCH • (music stuff)PIP INSTAGRAMPIP TWITTERPIP PATREONPIP IMDBPOD BIBLE Hosted on Acast. Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!This week Pip is joined by grime great and Roll Deep affiliate MANGA SAINT HILARE!A lovely chat with a grime star who shows both confidence and humility at the same time, in what seems like equal amounts. A quick scan through his videos and IG will reveal that he has the skills to back it all up, and has years in the game too, as well as stories from the old days of Roll Deep and the initiation of the grime scene. Really cool stuff, going in on such topics as how it feels releasing a new album, performing and stage craft as a new parent, rhythms of life, peopke coming to shows for him and not just the music, songwriting, how grime does well in the room, energy, and being part of a self-appointed Mt. Rushmore of grime! Really fun and interesting, worthy of a listen from the most ardent grime listener to the most "what are you talking about" person. Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!This week Pip is joined by the actor writer comic multi-hyphen rocking legend that is JOHN POINTING!A wonderful catch up with two people that get along famously and always have very entertaining chats, which certainly bodes well for a podcast episode of people talking! John is a welcome friend of the podcast, who has been sighted previously with writing and show pal Jack Rooke, and joins Pip and therefore us all for a warm fireside chat which goes into so much that's happening and has happened. From spoken word and poetry and the many intricate levels of interest within, to shows he's worked on and is working on, to Chattabix and the crew over there, to flying foxes and travels abroad, to Sky and TV platforms, and so much else. Even if you don't know who John is, this is a great episode if you want a really easy hang with two awesome people. Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!Bonus time as Pip makes the pyramid of power with fellow podcasters JOHN & JOEL for the TV SHOWS OF THE YEAR!* Succession spoiler around 27m - I've added a mini jingle to let you know when... It's about 2-3 minutes long to be on the safe side so BE WARNED if you've yet to see season 4...(Producer Buddy here - I've recklessly recycled a previous writeup for this one because my original is still entirely apt - dates have changed for obvious reasons but otherwise - enjoy the timewarp!)Another delightful end of year TV roundup from three people who truly know and care about their televisual diet. These are names you can trust, folks. You might know John and Joel from their own film podcast called Dream Factory (the world's greatest user-generated movie creation podcast), which Pip is a true fan of and contributor to, but if not, here is your chance to get to know them and become fast friends! This podcast goes appropriately deep into the television shows of the year in a hugely positive way, but of course you'll hear about some of the trials and tribulations of being such big devourers of content - the endless options of platforms, the accessibility of them all, and everything else... But really it's a perfect way to get up to speed on the things you might have missed, and also hear people chat about the shows that we all loved throughout the year. Who knows what 2024 has in store for us... But really - who cares? This is 2023 right here! Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!This week Pip is joined by the incredible film maker and director GARETH EDWARDS!Gareth is responsible for some of the most visually impressive movies in recent memory, and his story stems from creating lo-fi special effects on a consumer-grade bedroom PC. You've llikely seen the recent 'The Creator', and maybe you were in on the ground floor with 'Monsters', but Gareth has a huge amount of productions to his name, many of which come up in this chat. A chat which covers loads of ground - his younger days film interests propelled by his parents, sci fi analogies and parables, respecting classics as you get older, big companies following his lead, unique budgeting attitudes, the Peter Jackson technique, the problem with 'pre-vis', and so much more. The question is, will it make Ryan jealous? Find out more inside! Enjoy. Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!This week Pip is joined by one of Scotland's finest, the acting heavyweight that is PETER CAPALDI!Depending on where you caught Peter on his timeline, you may know him as Malcolm Tucker, Dr Who, or even Oldsen if you've seen Local Hero. Point is - Peter's been busy for decades, and continues to be so. He's also an awesome hang, as you will find out as Pip gets a good hour or so in his company. They get into all sorts, including of course the roles and acting experiences, but also the wide world of culture wars and nonsence arguments, problems with leadership, maintaining good vibes on set, London as a crime backdrop, the greatness of Glasgow, Lewis Capaldi and his relation to him, making diorama studios as a kid, and the hand of destiny in his acting career. NOT avoiding the hypetrain for the show brought to you by he and his wife, Criminal Record on Apple TV! So much to enjoy. Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!This week Pip is joined by acting great KINGSLEY BEN-ADIR!A very good time to catch Ben, as he's been on a whirlwind promo run for Bob Marley: One Love of late - but this is someone who would have been a Distraction Pieces guest soon enough, whatever the weather... Don't let the low-key tea-drinking nature fool you for a second, this is a busy person who has been grinding for a minute. The journey's been long and winding, with an early route to be found in acting which was a perfect alignment at that age and juncture, with a ton of work between those early days and now. Not only do we have a pre-Bob role in Barbie to look into, we get to hear all about playing the role as Bob Marley, and the weight of such a role is not lost on him for a second. From meeting the family and friends to being party to the original demos, and the history of the band, and so much more. It sounds like a wild film to be at the front of. Oh and cold water swimming makes an appearance too! Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!This week Pip is joined by stuntperson and all round beam of light DAVD HOLMES!You might have come to know David through the documentary 'The Boy Who Lived', which goes into great detail about his life and the path that led to his stunt work and career in the industry. If you have indeed seen it, you'll know that he's someone who has been through some immense experiences, and lived through one literally life changing one. But David hasn't disappeared from the light or retreated, when it might seem like an entirely understandable reaction. He's gained power and confidence through the strong friendships and relationships he made in his film career, and this has fueled his evolution in no small part, into where he currently finds himself. This is an awesome conversation with someone whose outlook will inspire and delight, and as David himself says, he is "handi-capable, not handicapped". Of course, there are moments of trauma that he wll live with, and these reveal themselves in the conversation, so perhaps take note going in... But don't miss out on this one - it's a classic Distraction Pieces if ever there was one.PIP'S PATREON PAGE if you're of a supporting natureTHE BOY WHO LIVEDINSTAGRAMCAMEOHOSPITAL GOFUNDMECUNNING STUNTS podcastSPEECH DEVELOPMENT WEBSTOREPIP TWITCH • (music stuff)PIP INSTAGRAMPIP TWITTERPIP PATREONPIP IMDBPOD BIBLE Hosted on Acast. Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!This week Pip is joined by Shetland superhero, comic, folk expert and Twitch-er MARJOLEIN ROBERTSON!A fabulous one here which branches out on all sorts of tangents but ONLY for the advancement of the podcast itself. A wonderful meandering and weaving conversation which radiates with history, fun and warmth and will surely leave you with a glorious impression of Marjolein if you're yet unacquainted. Marjolein is up in the top ten of Scottish cultural contributors and you'll understand why pretty quickly - this is someone with a firm connection to and grasp on history, of the Shetlands and surrounding areas, and you'll hear a ton of things you likely didn't know, nestled in among some excellent chat around comedy, Twitch, Edinburgh, and all that goodness. Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!This week Pip is joined by esteemed writer and director ANDREW HAIGH!A lovely episode for anyone inspired by the craft and creativity of film making, and you know Pip's a geek for this stuff so it won't be a surface level chat by any means! Andrew's been making roundly applauded films for decades now, including 45 Years, Lean On Pete, and the new All Of Us Strangers, but even if you are unfamiliar with those you'll find MUCH to celebrate here. Andrew goes in on all of it, including changes since 2011, representation and being known, pre-conceieved notions regarding gay sex, communication among British people, the art of the edit and when to cut, art and commerce, emotion, the metaphorical dating agency of being a director and the casting of films, Q&As and so much more. Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!This week Pip is joined by Future Islands lead vocalist, writer, actor and rapper SAMUEL T. HERRING!What an episode... Samuel was generous enough with his time to give us a full 90mins-ish of pure goodness which will entirely appeal to already-down Future Islands appreciators, but will likely turn a few ears towards their music if not already familiar. Saumel's presence is warm, fun and witty and it's a brilliantly entertaining ride through thoughts about performance, influence, emotion. big life moments, rap music (he's a proper head, have no doubt), ambition, 'that' performance, hurry up and wait, acting, zombie state while on tour, and whole bunch more. Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!This week Pip is joined by film-maker and actor JOEL EDGERTON!A fabulous episode with Pip and Joel, as we hear the two of them get down deep into the whole mess of life, film, and everything else. As you will expect it's a wide ranging and very honest one, delving into the aspects of pandemic life as an actor and - well - human being, as well as parenthood, empathy, understanding, emotion (including when acting and non-acting seep into one another), roles, Barrys Jenkins and Keoghan, projects, strategies, the world as a whole, and what's on the horizon. As you will know by now, when actors guest on the podcast, you won't hear a sales pitch about a particular project - this is a full on awesome conversation, which anyone with a beating heart will get a huge amount from, Enjoy!PIP'S PATREON PAGE if you're of a supporting natureTHE BOYS IN THE BOATTHE UNDERGROUND RAILROADTHE STRANGERINSTAGRAMIMDBSPEECH DEVELOPMENT WEBSTOREPIP TWITCH • (music stuff)PIP INSTAGRAMPIP TWITTERPIP PATREONPIP IMDBPOD BIBLE Hosted on Acast. Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!The yearly tradition boldly continues as Pip celebrates a year of incredible cinema with his FILMS OF THE YEAR 2023!One of those traditions that comes around every 12 months and makes you realise how much you missed it and how much you wanted to hear it again... A glorious and positive indulgence in a year of awesome movies from all over the world, and all across the spectrum or galaxy of the human soul. As always with this list, just a gentle reminder that if you don't agree, that is all good. But it is not a wrong or faulty list - it's just someone else's. You totally don't need this explained to you but you might be surprised at how people still think Pip's opinions are declarative statements and not opinions. In fact - put simply, to echo the Speech Development code - "We may not be for you, and that's fine". But ya know, with opinions about films. ANYWAY - goddamn, just enjoy the podcast and see how the thoughts of Yung Pip chime in with your own. And enjoy some dope recommendations in the bargain! PART 5!A welcome return of the Drunkcast gang as we hear from the original formation over five delirious episodes. If this is your first time coming in contact with the Distraction Pieces Podcast, a friendly suggestion would be to perhaps get better acquainted with the podast in regular guest-based form. This isn't anything on the Grade A cancellable list, nothing like that - but it IS three longterm pals getting together, recording and drinking and removing several layers of usual podcast filters for the benefit of a knowing and trusting audience.
