If you think it feels unproductive to take time to stop and eat lunch during your work day, or have a hard time recognizing when you're hungry, or go all day without eating and consume a lot of food at night, then you are like a lot of people with ADHD. Food issues and ADHD often go hand in hand. Today our guest host René Brooks is joined by dietician and nutritionist, Becca King, to explore some of the more common struggles that people with ADHD face regarding healthy eating. René and our Becca talk about binge eating, which is the most common issue she sees with her clients, and how to move past the guilt and shame that often accompanies it. Becca also shares how she has used intuitive eating to help herself and her clients develop healthier habits, as she has ADHD too. "Eating is self-care," as you'll hear her say. She also shares why food "short cuts" are a great resource, how meals need a "satisfaction factor" and why your weight isn't necessarily a good indicator of your health. Becca specializes in helping adults with ADHD heal their relationship with food through group coaching sessions. She also shares a ton of helpful info on Instagram as @adhd.nutritionist. noooo 😆 I soo need this in real life 😆😆😆
Such a great episode. I appreciate the host reaching out and exploring this topic. African-American people need mental health assistance and support too.
Literally this is how i ended up with a turtle because my mom said she saw them for sale at a market and didn't want to wait around for me to research anything about it. So it was "yes or no tell me now im leaving" and I blurt out yes. Lots of anxiety and expensive equipment later he lived well until we found him a new home because i couldnt afford bigger and bigger tanks.
Dr. Hallowell, you are a wonderful soul! I find your kindness and positivity so encouraging and motivating! And I love these mini episodes.
What a lovely human. Good episode!
What was the medication that Jessica mentioned that she takes for RLS?
Nice lesson, very helpful
Dr John is awesome!
Denying kids help because of high grades always infuriated me because I was one of those kids once I got to college. I just think of how my mom can walk on her bad ankle but that doesnt mean she isnt in pain with every step, and a doctor wouldnt deny her treatment on the grounds that she can still walk ok.
