Pappy Van Winkle is some of the most expensive Bourbon in the world, and in 2013 hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of the liquor went missing from the distillery. Operation Chariot is frankly the most unhinged and daring military operation I have ever read about. In World War II, the Brits were so worried about the Nazi's super battleship Tirpitz, they decided to take out the St Nazaire dock in occupied France. To do this they sent hundreds of commandos on a disguised ship to infiltrate the port. Also, the ship was a giant bomb... Five Victoria Crosses later, no wonder this is referred to as "The Greatest Raid of All."On this episode we are joined by our friend Nick Mason from The Weekly Planet podcast:https://bigsandwich.co/ This is a comedy/history podcast, the report begins at approximately 11:57 (though as always, we go off on tangents throughout the report). For all our important links: https://linktr.ee/dogoonpod Check out our other podcasts:Book Cheat: https://play.acast.com/s/book-cheatPrime Mates: https://play.acast.com/s/prime-mates/Listen Now: https://play.acast.com/s/listen-now/Who Knew It with Matt Stewart: https://play.acast.com/s/who-knew-it-with-matt-stewart/Jess Writes A Rom-Com: https://shows.acast.com/jess-writes-a-rom-comOur awesome theme song by Evan Munro-Smith and logo by Peader ThomasDo Go On acknowledges the traditional owners of the land we record on, the Wurundjeri people, in the Kulin nation.
