Does It Get the Pass?

Just two girls and their arbitrary system for ranking romantic comedies against the world. Does It Get the Pass? examines romantic comedies throughout the ages to determine, as the title says, whether they get "the pass' — i.e., avoid fulfilling a certain number of stereotypes — and what that means for our understanding of romance as a genre. All in good fun, hosts Maggie and Rebecca seek to pick apart the genre they love the most with humor and heart, and decide just what makes a good rom-com, whether it gets the pass or not.

21. A Conversation With Jonah Feingold

Hey there! So this week on the pod, we're doing something a little different. Instead of focusing on a specific film, we sat down with writer, director, and producer Jonah Feingold, whose we connected with after we covered his 2023 film At Midnight in season one. Also the director of Dating & New York, we talked rom-com tropes, his experiences as a filmmaker both on independent films and in the studio system, and what he loves about the genre itself. We absolutely love him on this podcast, and can't thank him enough for coming on. His newest film, EXmas, drops on Freevee on November 17 — be sure to check it out!
