I love to study God's Word and I can easily picture myself as Mary, learning at the feet of Jesus. My desire is to grow in the knowledge and righteousness of God. And yet righteousness (and the works it produces) is never the ultimate end but those who learn from Jesus. He invites us to learn that we might rest in HIM.
On an ordinary day, in a virtually unknown little town, God had come to fulfill promises made thousands upon thousands of years ago. And by his great favor, He was inserting this humble virgin into his glorious plan. Mary would be the mother of the long expected Messiah.
The Bible encourages God’s people to remember. We are called to consider the faithful works of our promise keeping God, least we doubt him and forfeit our hope amid a world of trouble. Psalm 77 is a beautiful picture of this truth.
Scripture calls us to be vigilant against the temptations of the enemy. As Jesus warned Peter in Luke 22:32, we need to be on the lookout. Yet our confidence doesn’t rest on our own strength but in the great High Priest who intercedes for us (Hebrews 7:25). God’s people will persevere in faith until the end because Jesus says to us, "I am praying for you." And there is our hope.
