In this podcast, I want to answer a few questions about hormesis. What does hormesis mean, and how does hormesis work?  What is hormesis? — Hormesis is a condition where you’re adding some stress or some toxicity in a small amount, and it’s very beneficial, compared to a larger amount where it becomes toxic.  Hormesis examples:  • Exercise can be very beneficial and can make you fit over time. However, if you’re 50 or 60 years old and you haven’t been working out, and you do Crossfit for two hours, you’re going to have a toxic effect from that.   • Fasting is very beneficial in a certain amount. But, if you fast for too long, you could end up having a toxic effect.  • Phytonutrients are very beneficial in a small amount. However, if you consume a concentrated amount of foods with phytonutrients, it can have a toxic effect. • Very small amounts of alcohol may be beneficial. But, too much alcohol can be toxic. • A small amount of UV light is great, too much is bad. In this podcast, I want to cover the importance of the intestinal mucosal barrier.  What is the intestinal mucosal barrier? — It’s simply a barrier between the inside of your colon (the large bowel) and the colon cells.  The large bowel is all about fermenting fiber. Most of your friendly bacteria should exist in the large bowel. Mucosal barrier functions:  1. First line of defense  2. Antibacterial  3. Place to ferment fiber 4. Selective absorption  5. In this podcast, I want to share with you a really simple massage technique. This skull massage is unlike anything you’ve probably seen on the internet before, and I’m going to show you how to do it step-by-step.  This is a skull massage for deep relaxation that will help a person get restful sleep. This relaxing head massage helps melt away stress and promotes sleep by working the sagittal suture.   • You can’t do this massage to yourself because you need to be fully relaxed.   • You shouldn’t do this massage to someone that has been hit on top of the head because you don’t want to press an old injury. In short, yes.  People eat a lot of muscle from the animal, which contains high amounts of methionine. But, when you consume healthy bone broth, you’re getting glycine in a different profile of amino acids. Overall, you can potentially gain weight by eating fruit, but not vegetables. Vegetables and weight gain:  • It’s unlikely that you’re going to gain weight on vegetables. Of course, you will gain weight if you consume certain vegetables like potatoes. • For example, 7 cups of a salad with other mixed vegetables would only give you 3.8 net carbs (extremely low). • You may get bloating or fluid retention from consuming vegetables which can cause weight gain but not fat gain. Today, we’re going to talk about vegetables on keto. Specifically, the tomato on keto versus the carrot on keto. Are these the best vegetables on keto to have? Which one is better to have on the ketogenic diet? I want to show you a couple of things about the total carb, the net carb, the fiber, and the sugar in keto vegetables. With healthy keto, we want low carbs and low sugar. But, you are allowed on healthy keto to have between 20 and 50 grams of carbohydrates. Today, we’re going to talk about calorie restriction. Can calorie restriction slow aging? You may have heard before that counting calories can have anti-aging effects. But, that conflicts with all of the people who have tried a low-calorie diet in the past. It has been proven that the more you diet and lower your calories, the more you end up gaining the weight back. It also destroys your metabolism over time. If you’re doing a low-calorie diet with high carbs, you’re going to keep your blood sugars going up and down. If you do a low-calorie diet with low fat, you’re going to be hungry, and it’s not sustainable.  The benefit of calorie restriction is epigenetics. The two epigenetic triggers for the benefits of calorie restriction are lowering glucose and lowering insulin. The benefits aren’t coming from restricting calories. The benefits are coming from restricting glucose and insulin. The other problem with a low-calorie diet is that people lower their nutrients. This can create nutrient deficiencies which can lead to all kinds of problems. Today, I want to talk to you about exercise. Should you do cardio for weight loss? Exercise only contributes 15% of your results with weight loss. The majority of your results will come from diet. Today we’re going to talk about knuckle cracking. Is it okay to crack your knuckles? Does cracking your knuckles cause arthritis? Is knuckle cracking bad? No, not really. It may irritate the people around you, but knuckle popping won’t cause arthritis. There are certain ways that are better than others when it comes to cracking your knuckles, and I’m going to show you how to pop your knuckles correctly in this video.  The sound that’s made from knuckle cracking is caused by stretching the capsule around the joint that’s filled with fluid and gas is coming out of the liquid making a popping sound. A lot of people suppress immune symptoms right away, but is this always the best first action? Today we're going to talk about whether or not it's a good or bad idea to suppress the infection cycle.  Let's say you're healthy, relatively young, you don't have pre-existing health problems, but you start having a fever, muscle aches, flu-like symptoms, a runny nose, and cough. Should you automatically start taking medications and antibiotics to suppress the symptoms, or not?  When a virus first invades the body, its goal is to get inside of the cell. When it's in the cell, it releases its RNA or DNA into your cellular machinery. Once it gets into your cellular machinery, it starts to take over the copy machine so it can mass produce. When it does that, your body doesn't have access to that copy machine. Now, as the blueprints are copied, they're sent to other machinery to reproduce the actual cell. MY take away is that it is all the added junk food and other changes from their traditional diet that is bad , not eating a reasonable amount of rice.
