Long Term Projects

2024-08-1301:12:291

Long-term projects require dedication, focus, and patience, often starting with a big goal and breaking it into smaller, manageable tasks. Marshall and Stan discuss the crucial way to stay motivated by celebrating small wins and maintaining a balance between work and rest to avoid burnout. Collaboration can help, but knowing when to delegate is key. The two also talk about embracing unexpected bursts of inspiration and using your most energetic times for critical tasks. Remember, saying no to less important things can help you focus on what truly matters. A lot of things in the art world have changed since the last time Marshall and I talked, perhaps nothing more so than AI art. More and more artists are wondering what this emerging technology means for them. That’s why, in this episode, Marshall and I will catch up and discuss the current landscape of AI art, its ethics, and potential uses. The End of Draftsmen!?!

2021-11-0201:24:40

All good things must come to an end, and podcasts are no exception. The Draftsmen podcast is coming to a close-- but that doesn’t mean Stan and Marshall’s friendship is! The two reminisce over the laughs, deep discussions, and favorite moments they’ve had together over the course of the podcast. Then, they talk about the future and what new adventures and content that may be in store. Join Stan and Marshall in their conversation with Ben Zhu, a former student of Marshall’s who also happens to be the founder, owner, and curator of Gallery Nucleus. Ben has years of experience as an artist and gallery owner, so he also has an abundance of wisdom to share with artists looking to get their work into a gallery. He’ll tell you how you can get your foot in the door, ways to make yourself more appealing to galleries, and explain some common faux pas so that you can avoid making them yourself. I really enjoyed this episode but I was rather disappointed that it had nothing to do with introverts, as an introverted hobbyist I was really hoping for some tips on networking for the socially inept. maybe the title should be changed? or did I miss the point somewhere along the lines?

A first time listener here. This episode (probably as the rest of the podcast) is so "testosteroney". Even bringing examples of cinema are focused on males (for instance talking about Betrayal (1983), he only mentions the male actors, while the female actor, Patricia Hodge, is one of the 3 key figures). I found the information really useful though. Good job on that. But duuuuuds! It is 2024!

One thing! That whole thing Marshall talked about, with the images in your head? Some of us can't do that! It's called Aphantasia, and it doesn't mean that you can't do art! There have been great aphantastic artists, Glen Keane comes immediately to mind. So to anyone listening, you don't have to be able to see anything, it's more about imagination. And imagination is not equal to visualization.
