We know, we know... the season is still very young but it is never too early to look at the rest of the ACC and try to see some patterns. So, the Duke Basketball Roundup gang did a deep dive into all the ACC results so far this season and came up with a few teams that have been better than expected and several who seems worse. On the good side we get Pitt, Notre Dame, and Stanford (thanks to the stellar play thus far of none other than Jaylen Blakes). On the bad side, there's Wake Forest, Syracuse, Louisville, and Georgia Tech. Jason and Donald break down what each of these clubs has done so far this season to land then on the naughty or nice list... and the guys point out that all of this really matters to Duke when it comes time to prove that Duke's regular season record was achieved against reasonable competition. The Blue Devils face their second big test of the early season on Friday when they face the formidable Arizona Wildcats. Last year it was Arizona stealing a win at Duke and the Blue Devils hope to return the favor as they visit the McKale Center in Tucson, a rare true road game in the non-conference schedule. The Duke Basketball Roundup takes a deep dive into the Wildcats roster and how they have played thus far this year. They have struggled from three point range but play at a really fast pace and may be the best rebounding team in the country. There are some really compelling matrchups on the court, including Tyrese Proctor facing off against the hated former Tarheel Caleb Love. As the DBR gang makes clear, this is a hugely important game for Duke. After dropping a close one to Kentucky, the Devils need to show they can win against the other top teams in college basketball. The Duke Blue Devils bounced back in a big way against Wofford on Saturday, and we recap it on Episode 663. Jason joins Donald for a few minutes from Las Vegas on this one, so we welcome Scott Rich back to the show to help Donald sift through all the good that happened in the game. There were some standout performances individually, but the defense was sensational and set some records. After the break, Donald and Scott nitpick with the stuff to work on and they pick their plays of the game and player of the week. It’s a fun recap with so many good things, and then the wait is on for the Arizona game next Friday. Make sure you’re following us! The Duke Blue Devils return to Cameron on Saturday to take on the Wofford Terriers, and we preview the game on DBR Bites #68. Charles Barkley once said famously, “I don’t know what a Wofford is...but I know basketball.” Well, we get to learn who the Wofford Terriers are as we get ready for the Blue Devils to line up against them. This is always that difficult team that gives opponents fits in the NCAA Tournament, so we have to take them seriously. After discussing who Wofford has played and how they’ve done so far, Jason and Donald get into the analytics, focusing on what they do well on offense and defense as well as where they haven’t been great. Hopefully the 3 point shooting is back on Saturday, because Wofford allows a lot of them! We then discuss some of the players who we could see from Wofford, including one that has a personal connection to Jason that will have him perhaps cheering for a couple of Terrier 3s on Saturday. After the break, Duke is headed to Army next year for a Veterans Day road game at West Point, and we think that’s going to be super cool. And, we end with Jared McCain absolutely lighting it up for the Philadelphia 76ers and earning some buzz for Rookie of the Year. Make sure you’re following us! Well, that wasn't the ending we all expected. The Blue Devils fumble the ball away down the stretch and drop their first game of the season to Kentucky at the Champions Classic. The DBR Podcast was in State Farm Arena for the big event as Jason was in attendance along with some of his class of '89 friends. He has observations from the site and the podcast also welcomes back Sam Klein to help breakdown what went wrong for Duke in this game. Though it was an L, the podcast gang has a feeling there was a lot learned in this contest that will turn into more Ws in the future. After the break, Donald, Jason, and Sam also get into some videos recently posted online by Kyle Singler that seem to show a guy who is very troubled. Sam, especially, feels a connection here as he knew Kyle when they were classmates at Duke. We are wishing Kyle well and hope he gets what he needs at this difficult time. Ok, enough with the overmatched opponents. The Blue Devils are ready for some real competition. Duke faces Kentucky on Tuesday in the Champion's Classic and any time these two bluest of blue bloods get together you know it will be a game to remember! The Duke Basketball Roundup has a complete preview of the contest including a breakdown of Kentucky's style of play (fast, with a lot of 3s) and which players to keep an eye upon. Jason and Donald are especially interested in the big man matchups -- how Khaman handles Kentucky's hulking center Amari Williams and whether Kentucky PF Andrew Carr has any chance to contain Cooper Flagg. After the break, the guys dive into football team's 29-19 victory over NC State, a win that once again featured stellar defense from Duke. The victory gives Duke a sweep of its Triangle rivals for the first time since 2013 and Jason gives us the odds on how many games Duke will win this year? Who wants to bet against 10 victories for Manny Diaz's surging team? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
The Blue Devils took care of business in resounding fashion against another overmatched opponent on Friday night, hitting the century mark as they defeated the Army Black Knights. When the threes weren't working, Duke pounded the glass to stake themselves to a nice lead. And then, when the threes began to fall, the rout was on. The Duke Basketball Roundup breaks it all down from Manman's board dominance to a sterling showing by the Duke bench to Cooper's overall excellence (and his cramps). But, ever the analysts, Jason and Donald don't just focus on the good they saw, there is plenty of conversation about what Duke needs to work on as we prepare for much stiffer tests in coming weeks, including Kentucky in just a couple days. The Duke Blue Devils are back in action tomorrow against the Army Black Knights, and we preview the upcoming game on the latest DBR Bites! Army comes in 1-0 off a win over UAlbany to open the season, and they have some experience from several players who have been together for a few years. They run a slow pace, and Donald and Jason talk through their style of play and what they do well along with what they traditionally haven’t done well. After the break, we get into some of the players, and some have interesting stories or ACC links. There are a few guys to watch and generally, the duo touches on what Duke needs to do to take care of business on Friday night. Make sure you’re following us! Well, that was fun. Duke kicked off the season with a 36 point beatdown of the Maine Black Bears, a resilient and spunky team that was no match for the overwhelming talent and depth that Duke could put on the floor. The Duke Basketball Roundup has a breakdown of everything the happened in this contest, with special focus on the playmaking and all around excellence of freshman stars Kon Knueppel and Cooper Flagg. After telling you all about the good and bad from this game, co-hosts Jason Evans and Donald Wine also get into the action across the rest of college basketball on Monday including how every ACC team performed and a look at former Dukies who are now playing all over the country after entering the transfer portal. Oh, and the guys also reveal the winner of their headline contest. With over 100 entries it was not easy to pick which Duke fan would get to take home a Homefield Apparel Duke pullover jacket. The Duke Blue Devils open up the season Monday evening against the Maine Black Bears, and we preview the game on Episode 659! Maine comes to town for the first game of the year, and Jason and Donald take us through what we can expect from the Black Bears. They have some experience and a couple of guys who are sound defensively. And, we look forward to what Duke brings to the table and how maturity and leadership should get off to an excellent start tomorrow night. The Podcast is also beginning the 2024-25 season by giving away a really cool Duke pullover courtesy of Homefield Apparel! All you have to do is submit your best headline from the Maine game to DBR Podcast at Gmail dot com. No headlines submitted before the end of the game will count, so wait until the game is over and then give us your best stuff! We’ll collect the headlines until around noon ET on Tuesday and the best headline will win the pullover! Shelton Henderson officially committed to Duke on Saturday, becoming the 4th player in Duke’s Class of 2025 recruiting class. We go over again what makes him special and we’re really excited to see him in a Duke uniform next season. After the break, we head to the gridiron, where Duke Football lost to Miami 53-31 in a game that was much closer than the score indicated. We discuss what went wrong for the Blue Devils and hope they are able to recognize they’re better than that score. With a trip to NC State coming up this weekend, Duke has a chance to get back on track and secure a solid bowl with wins in their last 3 games. Make sure you’re following us! The latest edition of the Duke Basketball Roundup has a full plate of stuff to fill you up. It starts with a preview of Duke football's big game this weekend against Miami. Donald Wine is an expert on the 'Canes and tells us everything we need to know about the toughest game on Duke's schedule this season. Up next, we preview a pair of big recruiting decisions being announced this weekend. Shelton Henderson and Acaden Lewis have each taken official visits in the past couple weeks and the DBR podcast breaks down what they could decide this weekend. Here's a hint, we think at least one of them will be picking Duke. And, after a break, it is time to talk about Dukies getting paid -- both Cooper Flagg's history-making deal with Gatorade and some Dukies in the NBA who are having pretty good weeks. It is a Duke Basketball Roundup tradition, our way of previewing the regular season -- the stats game. And we welcome in an old friend to help us out with the preview -- Sam Klein is back to run the game and tabulate all of Jason and Donald's predictions. Of course, seeing as Sam has not been on the podcast in a while, he's dying to talk and it takes a good 13 minutes to get to the part of the show where we actually begin the season preview by making educated guesses about stuff like -- who will lead Duke in scoring; how many road wins will the team have; how many double-doubles will Cooper Flagg have; how many minutes will Isaiah Evans play; how many different guys will be starters at some point; and (Donald's favorite) how many times will Duke score 100+ points in a game. If you want to join in the fun, feel free to send us your picks in all the categories to DBRPodcast at gmail.com. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
The Duke Blue Devils defeated the Arizona State Sun Devils Sunday night in The Brotherhood Run charity exhibition, and Scott Rich joins us to help break down all the good that happened on Episode 657. Duke beat Arizona State 103-47 in Bobby Hurley’s first time back in Cameron as a head coach. There was a lot to cover, and Jason, Donald, and Scott go through everything that Duke did well and even some of the things that could have been better. Duke scored 66 points in the second half, which is more than 18 of Duke’s opponents last year had in the entire game. It was led by shooting and, more importantly, by defense. After the break, Jason has to go, but Donald and Scott recap Duke Football’s crushing overtime loss to SMU. Despite 6 takeaways, Duke somehow lost the game. Donald and Scott discuss what went wrong for the Blue Devils and how the game felt like an opportunity to enter the national conversation that was missed. We end with a report of Duke Basketball heading to Vegas in 2027 to face Arizona at the home of the Las Vegas Raiders. Make sure you’re following us! We were expecting Episode 656 to be a lighter one, but the commitment of Nik Khamenia to Duke has us excited!! Yesterday, Jason and Donald were not expecting to see Nik Khamenia pick Duke as his college of choice, but he did! The #19 recruit in the 247 Sports rankings and #35 in the ESPN100, Khamenia is a hooper with a smart game. We discuss what he brings to next year’s Blue Devils and how he could play alongside the Boozer twins. Next up are previews, and we first discuss Duke Men’s Basketball’s upcoming exhibition against the Arizona State Sun Devils. It’s Bobby Hurley’s return to Cameron as a coach, and he brings a squad that has been reloaded with several transfers and one stud freshman. While Duke figures out its combinations, it will be great to see Hurley (and his son) back in Cameron for a nice exhibition. Duke Football has its toughest test of the season to date on Saturday night when they take on the SMU Mustangs. SMU has a prolific offense that puts up over 40 points per game and averages almost a first down every time they snap the ball. We take you through how Duke can pull off the upset over the #22 team in the country. Finally, the NBA season tipped off last night, and once again there are two dozen members of The Brotherhood representing Duke in the Association. We discuss some of the players that changed teams and who we’re keeping an eye on as the season begins. Make sure you’re following us! It is the story that sent shockwaves through the ACC and all of college basketball. Virginia coach Tony Bennett deciding to retire from the game just days before the start of the 2024-25 regular season. The Duke Basketball Roundup crew have many thoughts on what Tony Bennett said about his decision and what he kept quiet. Jason and Donald also weigh in on the timing of Bennett's retirement, leaving his players and his program less than two weeks before the games get underway. After the break, the podcast crew dives into the ACC's preseason awards. Only one Duke name showed up on the All-ACC teams... and how on earth did some no-name freshman from California get a vote for rookie of the year when Cooper Flagg and so many other notable newcomers are out there? Here on the DBR Podcast, we get by with a little help from our friends. Jason and Donald welcome in dozens of fans of the podcast to their first ever live podcast. It was a huge weekend of Duke sports so there is plenty to talk about. It all begins with a recap of the exhibition win over Lincoln. The podcast crew (and friends) enjoyed the coming out party of Cooper Flagg and Kon Knueppel (who we are nicknaming Kon Ktripple). The guys also saw very positive things from Tyrese, Manman, and Maliq as Duke unveiled a lethal attack and also showed themselves to be a team full of long, pesky defenders. I mean, how can you not enjoy a 50+ point beatdown? After the break, the party continues with a look at the big, big football win on Friday, Duke's first ever victory over Florida State and a statement making win that ensures Duke is bowl eligible. There is much praised for the resiliency of this crew, especially the impressive defense. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
We’re back with Episode 654 as Duke Basketball and Football both are in action this weekend! First, Jason and Donald preview Duke Men’s Basketball’s first exhibition of the season this weekend when they take on the Lincoln (PA) Lions. They’re led by former NC State standout Julius Hodge, who makes his return to Cameron. The duo discusses what to expect from Lincoln, what look they can present to Duke, and what they’re looking to see from the Blue Devils as they prepare for the regular season. Remember, after the exhibition game against Lincoln (PA) this weekend, Saturday at 4:00pm ET, we will be conducting a live show via Zoom, and DBR listeners are invited! To join the show on Saturday, head to TinyURL dot com slash DBR Zoom! Bring your headlines, bring your questions, wear your favorite Duke gear, and you will be a part of our first live episode! After the break, Duke Football has a huge game against Florida State, a team they haven’t beaten on the football field since the Seminoles joined the ACC. FSU is reeling, with a 1-5 record, but that doesn’t mean they will be pushovers on Friday night before a sold out Wallace Wade Stadium. Duke will need to execute, and we discuss how the Blue Devils can get the job done, beat FSU, and become bowl eligible. Make sure you’re following us! The AP has released its preseason polls and Ken Pomery also has his rankings up. We discuss them all on Episode 653! The AP released their men’s preseason poll yesterday, and the Duke Blue Devils will begin the season as the #7 team in the country. Jason and Donald discuss whether that’s a good spot for the Blue Devils and what the voters may have been looking for when assessing teams at the start of the year. Duke also has a loaded schedule, and it’s represented pretty heavily in these rankings. Ken Pomeroy also released his preseason rankings yesterday, and Duke is much better according to KenPom: they check in at #2 there. Of course, we compare the difference between what the computers are seeing and what differs from what the college basketball writers who make up the AP poll are valuing. The ACC should be much better this season, but while they didn’t have a ton in the top 25, there are several NCAA tournament caliber teams in the conference that Duke will face this year. After the break, we discuss the Duke Women, who appear at #11 in the first AP women’s poll of the season. The ACC is loaded, and Duke is the 3rd highest ranked team in the conference. A lot of respect is being shown to Kara Lawson and her squad, and for good reason! We discuss the team, who they will see this season in a tough schedule, and how they could do. Finally, we’re going to do it! After the exhibition game against Lincoln (PA) this weekend, Saturday at 4:00pm ET, we will be conducting a live show via Zoom, and all you listeners are invited! To join the show on Saturday, head to TinyURL dot com slash DBR Zoom! Bring your headlines, bring your questions, wear your favorite Duke gear, and you will be a part of our first live episode! Big news Friday morning as Duke landed its first two recruits of the 2025 class and they are quite the pair. Cameron and Cayden Boozer, Carlos Boozers twin sons, picked Duke over Miami and Florida in a recruiting race that was a lot closer and more mysterious than casual fans may think. The DBR podcast is here to break down what each of these 5-star players will mean for the Duke program. They also point out why this was an especially important recruiting win for Jon Scheyer. After the break, Jason and Donald talk about a comment by Coach Scheyer at ACC Media Day that might reveal something going on behind the scenes with the team's rotations and player positions. And there is one more important piece of news -- the Duke Basketball Roundup is going to stage its first ever live episode on Saturday October 19th at 4pm ET, about an hour after the exhibition game is over. Stay tuned for more details about how you can join the guys in a Zoom room and be a part of DBR Podcast history! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
The latest edition of the Duke Basketball Roundup contains part two of Jason's weekend at Duke. First up, he talks about the Dribble for Victory over Cancer and a stunning display of friendship from the folks who make up the DBR community. Fans of the podcast turned out in droves both to support this important charity and to spend some time chatting with Jason. The day also included a peek at a Duke practice and the DBR Podcast host came away with a few controversial takes... including his assessment of how deep Duke will go and which guys appear to be in the main rotation at this early point in the preseason. Oh, and you don't want to miss Jason's play-by-play of what happened when Kon went one-on-one with Flagg and Sion! After the break, the Roundup gang has some intel on Duke recruiting. There were three big-time prospects on campus this weekend and Jason got to spend some time chatting with some of their parents. We also look ahead to a big announcement on Thursday when the Boozer twins will make their college choice between Duke and Miami. This is one of the most dramatic recruiting mysteries in a while and, frankly, we have no idea what Cameron and Cayden are going to do. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Heel fan. I will admit that I started to get a lump in my throat during the post game. Even though I don't like Duke but the rivalry and college basketball will never be the same.
