Nearly two decades of structural economic reforms have firmly placed India on the growth expressway, re‐integrating it with the global economy. The India of the past invented the "zero" numeral, pioneered global trade routes, and created the first true global university. Today, India is the world's second fastest growing economy. Disruptive innovation has allowed India to create a place for itself in a global economy, be it the global sourcing and delivery model, or the $2500 passenger car.
The Duke India Business Forum aims to explore this re-discovery of India's global stature. It is with this aim in mind that we set the forum theme as "India: Shaping Global Business" an expansive and all encompassing theme. The forum will host prominent figures of Indian industry, public policy experts, and others who are shaping India's future.
Our goals for the forum are simple, but bold:
- Educate the Global, Duke Student-body by Increasing the Brand Awareness of Indian Businesses:
The forum will shed light on several questions, such as: Why are Indian companies going global? What are these companies doing to build global brands? How are some of the multibillion dollar acquisitions being financed?
- Explore Possible Areas of Collaboration with Indian Businesses and Duke University:
In addition to deliberating Corporate India's new global expansion, the forum will leverage Duke University's world‐renowned expertise in various disciplines to examine challenges and opportunities in sectors ranging from healthcare to infrastructure.
- Serve as a Premier India-focused Platform in the Southeast United States:
Finally, the forum will also serve as a platform to discuss what India needs to do in the future to sustain its scorching growth and firmly establish itself in the highest echelons of the global economic environment.
