With energy costs everywhere in the news, E2Tech takes you beyond the headlines in this Transmission into $avings discussion with ISO New England's Melissa Winne, Natural Resources Council of Maine's Jack Shapiro, RLC Engineering's Rick Conant, Maine Office of the Public Advocate's Heather Sanborn, and Maine Public Utilities Commission (PUC)'s Carrie Gilbert on the benefits of upgrading transmission to support the development of more renewables. The panel was moderated by Preti Flaherty's Jeff Thaler with audience Q&A assistance from E2Tech's Orion Breen. The PUC says the Northern Maine Renewable Energy Development Program is expected to provide about $400 million of net benefits to Maine ratepayers after connecting onshore wind in Aroostook County to a 1,200 MW transmission line. This program continues the discussions started in E2Tech's previous GRIDsilience panel which gave an overview of ISO New England's Longer-Term Transmission Planning (LTTP) RFP: https://www.e2tech.org/post/gridsilience-system-planning Thanks to sponsorship support from Preti Flaherty, Cianbro & Western Maine Energy Storage.
E2Tech's GRIDsilience series brings together regulators, electric utilities, generators and storage developers to discuss the challenges and opportunities of building the grid of the future with an affordable and resilient energy supply. May's GRIDsilience event featured three panels, this is the third panel focused on energy storage opportunities and the developer's perspective with Cianbro's Parker Hadlock, NextEra Energy's Michelle Gardner, Maine Department of Energy Resources' Ethan Tremblay, and Drummond Woodsum's Adam Cote.
