The way we approach febrile infants has traditionally been highly variable. Historically, these patients were admitted and many underwent lumbar puncture. New guidelines published in August 2021 by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) suggest that not every patient younger than 2 months of age will require that. Drs. But the disposition of these patients depends much more on how they became hyperglycemic and how they look clinically than the actual glucose number that appears in the glucometer window.
