In this passage of Scripture, the author of Hebrews prays for his readers and us that God would give to us the power of Jesus Christ to equip us and produce every good thing that is pleasing to Him. Welcome to Eat This Bread Drink This Cup! The communion meditation today is based on a passage of Scripture from the New Testament, Hebrews 10: 32-39. In this passage of Scripture, the author asks his readers to compare their here and now with the excitement and single purpose they knew when they first put their faith in Jesus. Welcome to Eat This Bread Drink This Cup The communion meditation today is based on a passage of Scripture from the New Testament, Philemon 1:10-18. In this passage of Scripture, we read about the story of Paul, Onesimus, and Philemon. As Paul loves, befriends, and intercedes for Onesimus, we recall from Paul's example how Jesus loves, befriends, and intercedes for us. We are reminded that freedom is not free, and Jesus offered His life on the cross to free us from sin and death. As we partak...
Welcome to Eat This Bread Drink This Cup. The communion meditation today is based on a passage of Scripture from the Old Testament, Jeremiah 23:5-6. In this passage of Scripture, the name of God, "The Lord Is Our Righteousness," foreshadows the work of Jesus Christ on the cross, and why we remember Him around the Lord's Table. All Scripture quotations are from the New Living Translation (NLT) and are used with permission.
Welcome to Eat This Bread Drink This Cup. The communion meditation today is based on a passage of Scripture from the New Testament, 1 Timothy 3:14-16. In this passage of Scripture, the Apostle Paul likely uses a portion of an early church hymn to remind Timothy of the great mystery of our faith. Similarly, Jesus uses the bread and the cup to help us remember a central truth of the good news of the gospel, His death on the cross to save us. We remember Him when we partake of the bread and drin...

Isaiah has much to say about the Lord's Servant, and in this passage of Scripture, he gives us a unique glimpse into the events of Jesus' day of crucifixion. Jesus did suffer for us, and we remember Him as we partake of the bread and drink from the cup. All Scripture quotations are from the New Living Translation (NLT) and are used with permission.

The author of Hebrews tells us that as Jesus offered His life on the cross, He was sustained by the joy of knowing that God would give His gift of grace to us. His joy would become our joy; something that can never be taken away from us. All Scripture quotations are from the English Standard Version (ESV) and the New Living Translation (NLT...

In this passage of Scripture, the Apostle Paul talks about the fruit of godly sorrow in the life of a Christian. As we partake of the bread and drink the wine from the cup, we remember that God sent Jesus to bring the good news of the gospel to us. He gave His life on a cross that we might have the forgiveness of our sins. He turned our sorr...
Welcome to Eat This Bread Drink This Cup. The communion meditation today is based on a passage of Scripture from the New Testament, 2 Corinthians 1:8-11. In this passage of Scripture, the Apostle Paul and Timothy, his brother in the Lord, experience a crisis of faith that forces them to abandon their futile human efforts and rely only on God for deliverance. Their unassailable confidence in God was underpinned by knowing He is the God who raises the dead. As we assemble to partake of the brea...
Welcome to Eat This Bread Drink This Cup. The communion meditation today is based on a passage of Scripture from the New Testament, 1 Corinthians 11:27-34. In this passage of Scripture, the Apostle Paul continues his instruction on the proper way to observe the Lord's Supper. Our full attention to our participation is necessary as God observes and examines us. He takes the death of His Son on the cross and His kingdom very seriously. God wants us to respect the table. All Scripture quotations...
Welcome to Eat This Bread Drink This Cup. The communion meditation today is based on a passage of Scripture from the New Testament, 1 Corinthians 10: 14-22. In this unique passage of Scripture, the Apostle Paul describes the sense of fellowship we experience with Jesus and each other as we drink from the cup and break the bread together. We should cherish this time together; it is so much more than a ritual we observe on the first day of the week. All Scripture quotations are from the New Liv...
Welcome to Eat This Bread Drink This Cup. The communion meditation today is based on a passage of Scripture from the New Testament, 1 Corinthians 1:26-31. In this passage, the Apostle Paul describes the futility of human wisdom as God has made Jesus to be wisdom itself. Only Jesus can make us pure, holy, and freed from sin, and this is what humankind desperately needs above all else. As we partake of the bread and drink from the cup, we remember that Jesus offered His life to secure these ble...
Welcome to the Eat This Bread Drink This Cup. The communion meditation today is based on a passage of Scripture from the Old Testament, Psalms 103: 8-18. In this psalm, King David is filled with praise for the LORD for His unfailing love. We should join in praise with King David as we see all of God's promises guaranteed by the blood of His Son, Jesus. Welcome to the Eat This Bread Drink This Cup podcast. The communion meditation today is based on a passage of Scripture from the New Testament, Romans 9:30-33. All Scripture quotations are from the New Living Translation and are used with permission. My Bible reading plan for this week included Psalms 73-89 and Romans 5-10. I was drawn to Romans 9:30-33 because of the powerful imagery used by God to describe His Son, “I am placing a stone in Jerusalem that makes people stumble, a rock that ma...
Welcome to the Eat This Bread Drink This Cup podcast. My Bible Reading Plan for this week included Psalms 53-72 and Acts 27:26-Romans 4. I was drawn to Romans 3:23-26 because in these verses, the Apostle Paul describes something very important to humankind, how to be made right with God, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. When we observe the Lord's Supper, we shudder at the suffering of our Lord Jesus Christ endured on the cross for our benefit. Thanks be to God that we are made right with ...
Welcome to the Eat This Bread Drink This Cup podcast. My Bible Reading Plan for this week included Psalms 34-52 and Acts 22-27:25. I was drawn to Psalms 43:3 because the psalmist pleads with God to send out His light and His truth as they are the only guides for him to go where God is, the source of all his joy. As we partake of the bread and drink from the cup, we remember that God sent Jesus, His Light and His Truth, to save us from our sins and lead us to God. As you listen to the ep...
Welcome to the Eat This Bread Drink This Cup podcast. My Bible Reading Plan for this week included Psalms 13-33 and Acts 18-21. As is my custom, I first asked God to direct me to the passage of Scripture from these readings that He wanted me to share about Jesus as we assemble to break bread. I was drawn to Psalms 33: 13-22 because the psalmist in these verses addresses a question as old as humanity itself, "Will a person or a nation choose to honor God?" Despite the passage of time, the ques...
Welcome to the Eat This Bread Drink This Cup podcast. The communion meditation today is based on a passage of Scripture from the New Testament, Acts 16: 6-10. In this passage of Scripture, we discover a change in the author's perspective. Luke is no longer an author who reports on historical facts, he is now both an eyewitness and participant of history in the making. As Christians, we, too, have had a change of perspective. Once we were the "they" and "them," the ones who were dead in their ...
