Education Research

Crystal Bridges’ Education team is engaged in an ongoing initiative to increase opportunities for art museum-based learning among K-12 students across the country. The program developed out of a 2012 study on the effects on K-12 students of a one-time field trip to Crystal Bridges, conducted by University of Arkansas, Department of Education Reform. The study found significant improvements in retention, critical thinking, and historical empathy among students who had participated in a Museum field trip, with the greatest effects among students from low-socio-economic or rural schools. Based in these findings, Crystal Bridges embarked upon the Distance Learning Initiative, researching effective ways to deliver Museum-based content to students beyond the Museum walls. The videos presented here include the 2013 press conference announcing initial study findings, as well as sessions from a Summit which brought together representatives from museums and other institutions across the country to discuss best practices in Distance Learning and to embark upon development of a model that could be used by all partners.
