I am actively looking to improve my productivity systems to better serve clients as well as to become more efficient in all the volunteering I do. I am always fascinated by how different other people manage their priorities but at the same time, they use a lot of the same principles. In this episode, I discuss how we as busy professionals can gain back some of the wasted time. He has a really cool resource to help busy professionals gain a “6th Day”. He gives great tips on how we are wasting 8 hours a week and how we can become more efficient and some of our daily tasks.

This episode is the last on a three part series on the the benefits and drawbacks of getting a masters degree. I believe there are many reasons to go to graduate school but also believe for some people not going to graduate school is not the right decision. I made this three part series for you to realize that there is not a right or wrong answer about going to graduate school. It is a personal decision that you need to make based on your personal situation. In this episode I expand on the following four reasons:
1. Time Decision
2. Financial Decision
3. Career Decision
4. Personal Decision

Summary of Content:
In this week’s episode, I sit with Iasmin Rosa. Iasmin is a Structural Civil Engineer working on bridges with just over 3 years of experience. She has had a similar career path as me with some building experience early on and now working as a bridge engineer. The only difference? I decided to get my masters and she decided to start working and getting real-world experience. We talk about some of the challenges and benefits of starting to work right away as well as other interesting insight on whether or not it is worth getting a masters degree. I hope you enjoy our conversation and the first guest of the podcast.
Some questions we discussed during the interview
Did you have a hard time starting your first structural engineering job? How was the transition?
Did you consider getting a MS?
What made you go straight into industry and not do a MS degree?
Looking back, would you do it the same way or would you had done a MS?
Are you considering getting an MS in the future?
What advice do you have for students about to graduate?

Summary of Content:
Going to graduate school is a big decision for many. There are plenty of reasons to pursue a higher degree. I personally think most people should go beyond the Bachelors's degree, especially in structural engineering. No matter what your plan is, there is really not a right or wrong answer to these questions. For some people, going to graduate school may be the right and only answer while for others it is not.

Graduating during this time of uncertainty is definitively not an easy situation. In this episode, I share my story of how I overcame challenges to find my first structural engineering job. I spent more than four years looking for a job while I bounced between maintenance, custodial, wastewater treatment plant operator, and quality control technician to finally find a job in structural engineering. The road was not easy but I hope you stay positive as I share my story.

“It should be your goal not to meet the most people as possible, but to understand who else is connected to whom and what the rest of the network looks like.” –David Burkus
In this episode of the podcast, I talk about some tips I have found useful when going to networking events as an introverted. I wanted to publish this episode as we were approaching the Structures Congress but as you can imagine, it was canceled. Fortunately, the team at SEI worked hard to create a virtual congress which will be held on April 7th.
Let me know what other tips you have found useful when going to networking events!
