079: Fired by his Family... How did Brad Martineau rebound to Build a Thriving Business?
Brad Martineau is the Cofounder of SixthDivision & PlusThis. Companies that help businesses plan out and thrive on marketing automation via Infusionsoft. Brad started his business career as Infusionsoft’s sixth employee and got a front row seat in watching the company grow from just six to 150 people, and from $500,000 to over $15 million in revenue. He saw that Infusionsoft was a great tool that helped small businesses leverage technology, but he also saw a lot of their clients struggling to implement it. In 2010, after being fired by his brother's at Infusionsoft,  he started SixthDivision with the goal of that company to make it easy for people to get their automation ideas implemented so they can make more money and have more time on their hands. Brad is married with five kids, and he loves playing basketball, addicted to fitted hats, and he is into the whole entrepreneur thing. Brad’s specialty is simplifying the complex and bridging the gap between theory and execution. He loves teaching and helping people understand difficult concepts. It drives him nuts when he sees someone not being able to do something because they don’t know how. He launched SixthDivision to provide Infusionsoft users a better source of coaching, training, and done-for-you services. *** For Show Notes, Key Points, Contact Info, & Resources Mentioned on this episode visit here: Brad Martineau Interview. *** Fabulous 4 Questions: 📖 📚 Favorite Book(s)? K. So I don't do favorites but a book I really like has been Ready, Fire, Aim by Michael Masterson. Another was Simple Numbers, Straight Talk, Big Profits by Greg Crabtree. 🙌😎 Favorite Amazon.com purchase? Again, I don't do favorites but Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones rank up there. 🌱💸 Favorite Tool that's GROWN your Business? Infusionsoft & Basecamp are ranking pretty high for me. 💭💡 BIGGEST Challenge keeping your Business from GROWING? Good question. I'd say the story we tell. I think we do a pretty good job but we can always do better and I believe the story you tell is possibly the most important component of your business.

077: Sex Toy Entrepreneur, Reveals his Mr. Sloan... (Brian Sloan of VIECI)
Brian Sloan, CEO of Very Intelligent Ecommerce Inc. Brian quit his job as a lawyer to start a sex toy business that generates over $1 million a year, and he did it without office space or full-time employees. He and his collaborators at Very Intelligent E-Commerce, Inc. have skipped the usual distribution methods, focusing solely on internet sales. The company's most recent product, a sex toy for men (NSFW), launched as an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign. It turned heads and raised over $260,000 — far more than its $45,000 goal— in the process. "We are sure that we'll at least double revenue within the first year ... and will try our hand at offline sales to resellers," Sloan told us. He was kind enough to answer our questions about what it's like to steer the ship of an adult novelty company. Here are some key takeaways from our conversation and the full (lightly edited) transcript appears below that. Sloan started as a lawyer, but made a change early in his career that led him to where he is now. "I used to go to garage sales at 6 AM on the weekends and make as much or more money than I was making in the firm. At that point it really became clear that if what I wanted was more money and a fun lifestyle — working as a lawyer would offer a poor return on my time investment." Brian Sloan hit the motherlode when one of his products turned into a viral phenomenon. Autoblow 2 achieved international popularity, raking in more than a quarter million dollars via crowdfunding. In the meantime, Brian has added several other toys to his range, and his latest innovation, called 3Fap, is already on its way. We were curious to learn more about this product and about other new ideas that are already in the works, but, of course, we also squeezed in a few questions about the general developments in the erotic market. *** For Show Notes, Key Points, Contact Info, & Resources Mentioned on this episode visit here: Brian Sloan Interview. *** Fabulous 4 Questions: 📖 📚 Favorite Book(s)? Atlas Shrugged By Ayn Rand. 🙌😎 Favorite Amazon.com purchase? Leica Q. 🌱💸 Favorite Tool that's GROWN your Business? We use Magento for eCommerce but all other systems we built, i don't like to be attached to a SaaS model milking me for money for years. 💭💡 BIGGEST Challenge keeping your Business from GROWING? Nothing is keeping us from growing, but we have a huge challenge in developing autoblow 3 and that product is what will take us from 6-7 to 10-15m.
076: This Pastor Preaches Culture. Why Dave Ramsey (& others) Win with William Vanderbloemen.
William Vanderbloemen is the President and Founder at The Vanderbloemen Search Group. William has been able to combine over 15 years of ministry experience as a Senior Pastor with the best practices of Executive Search to provide churches with a unique offering: a deep understanding of local church work with the very best knowledge and practices of professional executive search. Prior to his founding The Vanderbloemen Search Group, William studied executive search under a mentor with over 25 years of executive search at the highest level. His learning taught him the very best corporate practices, including the search strategies used by the internationally known firm Russell Reynolds. William also has experience as a Manager in Human Resources in a Fortune 200 company, where he focused on integration of corporate culture and succession planning. All of these experiences have come together with his pastoral work to form a unique gift for helping churches and ministries connect with the right key people. Prior to executive search, William led growth and innovation in churches in North Carolina, Alabama, and Houston. During his time in Alabama, William had the chance to help rebuild and relocate an ailing congregation, and lead them to new levels of growth. At 31, he was elected Senior Pastor for the First Presbyterian Church of Houston, a church of about 5,000 adults and 1,500 children strong. It is Houston’s oldest congregation. William is regularly invited to speak across the country in both church services and as a resource to churches and conferences on leadership. His book Next: Pastoral Succession That Works on effective pastoral leadership and succession was released through Baker Books in September 2014, and his book Search: The Pastoral Search Committee Handbook was released through B&H Books in June 2016. His latest book is Culture Wins: The Roadmap To An Irresistible Workplace and is released through Savio Republic. William holds degrees from Wake Forest University and Princeton Theological Seminary. William is an avid social networker. Whether connecting with friends, candidates for searches he is doing, or church members, he loves to network, and he would love to interact with you through Facebook and/or Twitter. William, his wife Adrienne, their seven children, and their poodles Moses and Pearl live in Houston. In his free time, William enjoys running, working out, and caddying for his kids, who are now better golfers than he is. *** For Show Notes, Key Points, Contact Info, & Resources Mentioned on this episode visit here: William Vanderbloemen Interview. *** Fabulous 4 Questions: 📖 📚 Favorite Book(s)? I love the podcasts but I think you should change the cover picture. I subscribed because of the name and didn't really listen to any of the shows because I didn't think it was serious. After listening to a few, they're some of my favorite!
