One big question: WHAT HAPPENED? How did the crusades come about, and how should we think about them?
Should we be worried about Pelagianism infecting today's church once again? Yes... and no. Listen in to find out why.
Learn with us about Augustine’s perspective on sin and grace, which still shapes the church today - even ours!
Hear the incredible story of how God saved Augustine, a man desperately and wilfully trapped in the throes of sin.
This week we consider what we can and can’t know about life in God’s new creation.
This longer podcast explores the theological arguments for annihilationism, and shows how universalism is not a biblical option.
This week we consider the arguments for two challenges against the view of hell as “eternal conscious torment.” We’ll see how scripture and history both contradict rather than support these alternative positions.
This week we look at the biblical view of hell as “eternal conscious torment.”
This week we look at what happens after we die but before Jesus returns.
This week we exegete Deuteronomy 8:1-10, and learn how to use a new tool for word studies - Blue Letter Bible.
This week we exegete Isaiah 11:1-16, putting some of our learning so far into practice. We also learn a new exegetical principle about textual context.
How can we get the most out of the text itself? We consider the difference between exegesis and eisegesis, as well as a straightforward method for reading scripture. In this week's podcast, we spend a bit of extra time looking through Sunday's text - 1 Corinthians 1:18-25.
This week we consider some practical ways to think about the context of a passage.
The Roman Catholic church claimed it was the true church for centuries. So who are we Protestants to say different, right! This week we consider how to know if we are a true church, historically and biblically. We’ll also look at how to think about partnering with Catholics and whether house churches are bonafide churches.
Since the church is defined as a local gathering of believers (who sit under the preached word, practice the sacraments etc), how does that affect our understanding of multi-site and multi-congregation churches? Is each site or congregation part of one church, or are they different churches?
This week we traced through the other uses of “ekklēsia” in the New Testament, showing how the local congregation is the only form of the visible church. We also saw how the “universal” or invisible church is explored in Hebrews, and what this means for our local gatherings.
