Since the church is defined as a local gathering of believers (who sit under the preached word, practice the sacraments etc), how does that affect our understanding of multi-site and multi-congregation churches? Is each site or congregation part of one church, or are they different churches?
This week we traced through the other uses of “ekklēsia” in the New Testament, showing how the local congregation is the only form of the visible church. We also saw how the “universal” or invisible church is explored in Hebrews, and what this means for our local gatherings.
