Cheating in esports comes in a variety of forms. Aim bots give perfect shots, wall hacks allow you to see people you shouldn't but one form of cheating is the simplest of all. Screen peeking. Many a fight were caused from the simple act of looking at an opposing split screen, and it still happens in the highest levels of esports. A Fortnite World Cup player was removed from the event for screen-peeking. To talk about the problem and how designers are working on it, I brought on Dustin Sweeney from HKS Sports and Entertainment. He's worked on projects like the US Bank Stadium, the LA Rams complex and the Team Vitality HQ. We talk about this problem, then move on to talk about designing facilities for different esports and how the Overwatch and Call of Duty Leagues move to hometown venues is going. Dustin also is slotted for a panel at SXSW so if you enjoyed this conversation please vote for him (https://panelpicker.sxsw.com/vote/103199) and attend the event if you can. EVO 2019 had a bunch of incredible storylines and Terrel Skellie joins the podcast to talk about the biggest moments from the event. We cover Sonic Fox, the young Pakistani Tekken player who embodied what Evo is all about and the Super Smash Bros Melee sized hole in the event. Plus, why many in the fighting game community don't consider Smash Bros to be a fighting game and why I think they are wrong. Indie games get a bad rep. All that title means is that they are games from a developer not tied to one of the massive AAA studios. Instead, indie has become a meme that often means low-quality, rough, or in need of improvement. But some of the biggest esports ever came out of indie studios. The best example being the founding of Riot Games by two USC students in 2006. League of Legends went on to become one of the biggest games and esports in the world. This podcast covers some of the history of indie developers in esports, some of the best indie games out right now and my idea for an awesome indie-based annual esports event. This weekend marks the start of one of esports most unique tournaments. Nothing like the Fortnite World Cup has ever been held before. As an open qualifier, some players went from complete obscurity to playing for a chance to win the top prize of $3,000,000. Four different events will be held over the weekend. I am joined by Amanda Zelauskas, a writer for FortniteINTEL to talk all things Fortnite World Cup. We go back into the crazy year of Fortnite esports and look at the highs and lows from a wild ride that has seen millions of dollars awarded in prizes. There is a new game genre in the works. The developers at Ubisoft call it Connected Arcade Team Sports (CATS), my co-host calls them Virtual Spectator Sports (VSS) and my brother calls them Maybe Boomers Will Actually Recognize These as Sports, Sports (MBWARTSS). Our listeners sent in suggestions for other names for the genre and we ran those by Ubisoft developer Stéphane Drapeau who told us about the inspirations for the game. Then Max Bettendorf joins the program to give an honest of review of this game (based on the pre-alpha version) and if it may be the next Rocket League.Rate and subscribe!New episodes Weekly. For daily esports news, check out the Esports Minute (https://esportsminute.fireside.fm/).Follow Mitch on Twitter @Mitch_Reames (https://twitter.com/Mitch_Reames)Follow Esportz Network on Twitter (https://twitter.com/EsportzNetwork), Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/esportznetwork/), and Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/EsportzNetwork) @EsportzNetworkOr visit our website esportznetwork.com (https://www.esportznetwork.com/) for updates on what's to come!
OpTic Gaming was one of the largest esports organizations in the world. In 2017 they had the best Call of Duty team with a rabid GreenWall fan base, they secured spots in both the LCS and OWL franchising and were still expanding. They secured extra funding from Infinite Esports and Entertainment, which took the company out of the guiding hands of Hector 'H3CZ' Rodriguez, a move that proved to be fatal. Now, halfway through 2019, OpTic Gaming is just a brand under Immortals Gaming Club competing in the new CDL franchise league. Their LCS spot is being rebranded as Immortals and their Houston Outlaws OWL team will have to be sold. In this podcast we look back at the OpTic dynasty and how it all fell apart. Here are the links I mentioned in the podcast:Dexerto's documentary (https://www.dexerto.com/videos/the-best-call-of-duty-team-of-all-time-optic-gaming-documentary) on the OpTic Gaming dynasty which details more of the key moments and gameplay in Call of Duty.OpTic Hitch, a longtime videographer of OpTic, explaining what changed under Infinite Esports (https://www.dexerto.com/call-of-duty/h3cz-tells-story-infinite-tried-sell-opt-call-of-duty-team-663839) and Entertainment. On today's podcast, Mitch takes us through the growing world of esports betting. With the Supreme Court decision passed in Spring of 2018, betting on sports became a reality for a much larger section of the US. With that, esports betting suddenly became easier to manage as well. Thrive Fantasy offers prop bets on League of Legends and CS:GO as well as traditional sports competitions. We talked about how the betting landscape has changed, how companies are tackling esports betting and the unique platform Thrive Fantasy is using.
