In this third episode, we explore how the 2005 Constitution revolutionised service delivery by embedding human rights into health frameworks and empowering the Ministry of Health to prioritise equitable access and community involvement. Yet, two decades later, amid celebrations of constitutionalism, U.S. aid cuts to PEPFAR and USAID in 2025 threaten to dismantle these gains, sparking drug shortages, service suspensions, and a potential surge in infections.
On the third anniversary of the brutal assassination of human rights lawyer Thulani Maseko, we sit down with his widow and fellow human rights defender, Tanele Maseko. She shares her journey in human rights advocacy, reflecting on her experiences from meeting Thulani to coping with his tragic death, as well as her ongoing efforts to protect and promote human rights in Africa. ‘From pain, find your power.’
