Welcome to Even Baddies Wear Helmets! The podcast all about kids’ telly, and the wonderful grown-ups who make it happen. This episode is the last in our Stabilisers mini-series - a little block of episodes that act as the gateway between the tricycle of Even Baddies Wear Helmets Series 1, and the big-kid bike of Series 2. In today’s episode, we’re going ghost hunting! We’re joined by Elizabeth Ito, creator of Netflix’s City of Ghosts. It’s a funny, charming and at times moving animated mockumentary about a group of kids living in Los Angeles, who seek out and interview the city’s spirits. Elizabeth is a 15 year veteran of the animation industry, with credits ranging from Hotel Transylvania to Astroboy, and in 2017 she won an Emmy for her work on the smash-hit series Adventure Time. What’s more, Elizabeth’s short film Welcome to My Life is - to date - the second most-viewed short in Cartoon Network history. Billie and Elizabeth talk passion projects, workspaces and the things we leave behind. Like what you hear? We’d love it if you told your mates! You can find out more about Elizabeth and her work on https://elizabethito.com/ or find her on Twitter @kikutowne.THE TEAMHosted by Billie CollinsWebsite: https://billiecollins.co.ukTwitter: @_BillieCollinsProduced by Clodagh ChapmanWebsite: https://clodaghchapman.co.ukTwitter/Insta: @CloChpmnMusic by Finlay StaffordFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/finlaystafford/Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/finlaystaffordLogo designed by Lucy TillerInsta: @lucyjaneillustratesTwitter: @lucyjtillerFor more content, go to evenbaddieswearhelmets.co.uk or follow us on our socials at @EvenBaddiesPod. Welcome to Even Baddies Wear Helmets! The podcast all about kids’ telly, and the wonderful grown-ups who make it happen. This episode is part of our Stabilisers’ mini series - a little slew of episodes that nestle snugly between the Series 1 tricycle and the big-kid-bike of Series 2. Today, we’re talking to the wonderful Theresa Varga, a director who hails from Yorkshire. Alongside a brilliant array of achingly funny and visually delicious short films, her TV credits include Secret Life of Boys, Hetty Feather (both CBBC) and The Diary of My Broken Vagina (Channel 4). In this episode, we talk mostly about her work on Dan Berlinka’s CBBC series Lagging - a show in which a tight-knit group of gaming enthusiasts battle dragons and reach for high scores in the virtual world, whilst navigating growing up, friendships and family IRL.Billie and Theresa delve into developing your own distinctive visual style and the move from short film to TV. We hope you enjoy it! You can find more of Theresa’s work at theresavarga.co.uk, or find her on Twitter @TheresaVargaTHE TEAMHosted by Billie CollinsWebsite: https://billiecollins.co.ukTwitter: @_BillieCollinsProduced by Clodagh ChapmanWebsite: https://clodaghchapman.co.ukTwitter/Insta: @CloChpmnMusic by Finlay StaffordFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/finlaystafford/Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/finlaystaffordLogo designed by Lucy TillerInsta: @lucyjaneillustratesTwitter: @lucyjtillerFor more content, go to evenbaddieswearhelmets.co.uk or follow us on our socials at @EvenBaddiesPod. Welcome to Even Baddies Wear Helmets! The podcast all about kids’ telly, and the wonderful grown-ups who make it happen. We’re back with a few more episodes of ‘Stabilisers’ - our little mini-series that nestles snugly between the Series 1 tricycle and the big-kid-bike of Series 2. So guess what? It turns out everything IS awesome. How do we know? Because in this episode, we chat to the brilliant Matthew Ashton, Vice President of Design at the LEGO Group. Matthew has worked for LEGO for 21 years, was Head Judge on the original version of LEGO Masters UK (Channel 4) and - importantly for Even Baddies purposes - was an Executive Producer on the LEGO Movies and the Unikitty series for Cartoon Network! We’ve had a few requests from listeners for an episode covering the merchandising side of children’s content - and we couldn’t think of anyone better to give us an insight into the relationship between kids, TV and film, franchises and their toys. In this episode, we learn what ‘toyetic’ means, we discover how writers can feed into toy design, and - in what is potentially a world first, two gay people from the Wirral talk about being gay and from the Wirral.  You can find Matthew on Twitter and Instagram here @matthew__ashton (that’s a double underscore FYI!)THE TEAMHosted by Billie CollinsWebsite: https://billiecollins.co.ukTwitter: @_BillieCollinsProduced by Clodagh ChapmanWebsite: https://clodaghchapman.co.ukTwitter/Insta: @CloChpmnMusic by Finlay StaffordFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/finlaystafford/Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/finlaystaffordLogo designed by Lucy TillerInsta: @lucyjaneillustratesTwitter: @lucyjtillerFor more content, go to evenbaddieswearhelmets.co.uk or follow us on our socials at @EvenBaddiesPod. And it’s all about the awkward years - from first crushes to volcanic fall-outs, we’re talking TEEN DRAMA. The teen audience can be one of the hardest to get right - how do you stay relevant without being cringeworthy? How do you handle issues sensitively without patronising anyone? We’re here to find out. Our guest this week is Holly Phillips. Holly is best known for creating and showrunning the teen series Get Even for BBC iPlayer and Netflix. Based on the novels by Gretchen McNeil, it follows a group of teenage girls at an elite private school who band together to get revenge on bullies. We’ve chatted to writers, actors and producers - now it’s time to talk about directing! In Episode 4 we’ll be thinking about how to give acting notes to kids, directing mini-music videos and just how many people it takes to puppet a rabbit from Stockport. Our guest this week is Alex Jacob. Alex has directed on a multitude of shows, including Casualty, Doctors, Hollyoaks and Moving On. When it comes to kids’ content, he’s directed episodes of Tracy Beaker spin-off The Dumping Ground, the rap-filled-comedy 4 O’Clock Club (both CBBC), and the brand new Channel 5 preschool show, The World According to Grandpa. For context - we recorded this episode the week that ‘My Mum Tracy Beaker’ came out on CBBC/iPlayer.We hope you’ve enjoyed the series so far - if you have, it would be lovely to hear from you! We’re back with another episode of Even Baddies Wear Helmets! And, oh boy, is it a fun one - this week, we’re talking about voice acting for animation. So buckle in, because there will be pro tips, and there will be silliness. Whether you’re playing a vampire, squirrel or talking train, voice work demands an immense amount of skill, craft and versatility. Luckily, our guest this week has all three in buckets. Rasmus Hardiker has voiced a plethora of animated characters - to name but a few, he’s Alfur in Hilda (Netflix), Fleeker in Floogals (Channel 5), Scott and Alan Tracy in Thunderbirds Are Go! (ITV), Resus Negative in Scream Street, Walter in Dennis and Gnasher, and Count Duckula in DangerMouse (all CBBC). In this episode, Rasmus discusses the joys of improvisation, loveable fools and learning on the job. And what does it take to handle the mammoth popularity of Jacqueline Wilson’s work? Our guest this week is Helen Blakeman. As well as being chair of BAFTA Children’s, Helen has written extensively for theatre, film and TV.
