Description

Our lives can be crazy, but you can take a break from it all with Wondery’s new series, Even the Rich, where co-hosts Brooke Siffrinn and Aricia Skidmore-Williams pull back the curtain and chat about someone else’s craziness for a change. They tell stories about some of the greatest family dynasties in history, from the Murdochs to the Royals to the Carters (Jay-Z and Beyoncé, that is). Because as Queen Elizabeth once said, “A good gossip is a wonderful tonic.”

Hosted by Ash Kelley and Alaina Urquhart from the hit show Morbid. When 90-year-old Laurence Pilgeram drops dead on the sidewalk outside his condo, you might think that’s the end of his story. But, really, it’s just the beginning. Because Laurence and others like him have signed up to be frozen and brought back to life in the future. And that belief will pull multiple generations of the Pilgeram family into a cryonics soap opera filled with dead pets, gold coins, grenades, fist fights, mysterious packages, family feuds, Hall of Fame baseball legends, and frozen heads — lots of frozen heads. Listen Now: Hysterical

2024-07-2206:44

Hysterical investigates a mysterious illness that spreads among a group of high school girls in upstate New York. What is causing their sudden, often violent symptoms? Is there something in the water or inside the school? Or is it “all in their head?” The series examines the outbreak in LeRoy, NY, believed by some to be the most severe case of mass hysteria since the Salem Witch Trials. In his search for answers, Dan Taberski (9/12, Missing Richard Simmons, Running from Cops) explores other seemingly inexplicable events of the last few years – CIA officers being crippled with nausea and vertigo; cops OD'ing from exposure to fentanyl – and discovers they’re far more connected than we realize. From Wondery and Pineapple Street Studios, this 7-part series forces us to grapple with the mysteries of our own minds, and reckon with a contagion that we thought was long dead, but may be the defining disorder of our time.Follow Hysterical on the Wondery App or wherever you get your podcasts. What’s black and white and read all over the world? In this new four-part series, we look at the in-fighting, back-stabbing, and the many marriages of Rupert Murdoch and his children. The fight in the Murdoch clan to take over the media tycoon’s empire is so juicy that it inspired HBO’s hit series “Succession.” Well, we have a secret: the real-life story is even juicier. The true heir will control a multi-billion dollar conglomerate with the power to elect presidents. In this episode, young Rupert Murdoch transforms a single newspaper into a global media empire. He hopes one of his kids will take over someday. There’s only one problem: Rupert can’t decide which kid.Support us by supporting our sponsors!See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Rupert becomes the hopeless cliche of a much older rich man caught up in a whirlwind romance with a younger woman who works for him. He sees a chance at happiness, but his kids see something else entirely — a threat to their inheritance.Support us by supporting our sponsors!See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
The phone-hacking scandal doesn’t just threaten to bring down Rupert Murdoch’s empire: it might also tear apart his family. Siblings blame siblings. Rupert plays favorites. And Wendi seeks shelter from the storm ... in the arms of another man.Support us by supporting our sponsors!See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
All good things must come to an end, right? Try telling that to Rupert Murdoch. In his eighties, the billionaire tycoon shows no sign of slowing down. But let’s face it: the guy must be exhausted. His company is mired in scandal — again — and he’s facing tougher competition than ever before. Don’t even get us started on his sons, Lachlan and James, who are so pissed at each other they’re about ready to rip off their shirts and fight it out. Something’s gotta give or else Rupert’s empire, the one he spent his whole life building, might just crumble. Be sure to check out “Planet Fox,” the incredible three-part story about the Murdochs that ran in the New York Times Magazine: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2019/04/03/magazine/rupert-murdoch-fox-news-trump.htmlSupport us by supporting our sponsors!See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
We thought we knew everything about the Murdochs. Then we met Ken Auletta. He's one of the best media reporters in the biz — four decades at The New Yorker, a handful of bestsellers under his belt, and quite a few encounters with the Murdochs along the way. He tells us what the family is like up close, and what the future holds for their diminished empire.Want to read some of Ken’s work? Check out “The Pirate,” his incomparable 1995 profile of Rupert: https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/1995/11/13/the-pirate And don’t miss “The Heiress,” his more recent story about Liz: https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2012/12/10/the-heiress-2See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
James Poniewozik, watches TV all day and gets paid for it. Dream job, right? James is the chief TV critic at the New York Times. He’s also the author of “Audience of One: Trump, Television, and the Fracturing of America.” On this episode, he explains how Rupert Murdoch brought a tabloid sensibility to cable news. Then we talk “Succession.” The Murdoch family feud inspired the HBO drama, but James says the show also takes a page from Greek mythology.Support us by supporting our sponsors!See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Beyoncé and Jay-Z. They’re not just the first family of hip-hop: they also remind us that magical, luminous, what-I-would-give-to-have-that love really does exist. That’s why this season we’re telling you the story of how two of the biggest stars on the planet came together, launched a billion-dollar music empire, and almost lost it all. In this episode, sparks fly when a pop sensation from Houston and a gifted rapper from Brooklyn meet poolside in Cancun.Support us by supporting our sponsors!See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
When Jay-Z and Beyoncé finally get together, it’s not just one of the great love stories of all time: it’s also one of the greatest mergers in American history. So when a sketchy publicist starts spreading rumors with the power to break them up, all hell breaks loose.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Beyonce’s stardom reaches new heights with the release of “Single Ladies.” She’s soaring toward the stratosphere when a nasty rumor pulls her back to earth: someone in her inner circle is stealing from her. What she finds out when she investigates threatens everything she’s spent her whole life building. And in the end, she’ll turn to Jay to help her find a way forward.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

they got a little bit victim-blamey in this episode. "Jen doesn't seem like the kind of person who would stick around if Brad behaved abusively" - a lot of very strong women end up in abusive relationships. this is super well documented. they also said that they think he was only abusive to Angelina, essentially because "she drove him crazy". fyi that's a common argument made by abusers. even if someone makes you super angry, it's never an excuse to be abusive. it's not her fault.

Angelina is not a victim. She's been a hot mess most of her life and no wilted flower. Her bad and cruel choices are a reflection of her lack of empathy. She's tried to ruin Pitt with her revenge lawsuits and actions, yet she's not winning awards for portraying herself as a victim. I'm not buying it, yet sadly, this podcast is. No bueno

I'm confused, what's wrong with "staged photos "? Dad doesn't seem to have done anything wrong, just living his life. Now the sister? that's another story.

This podcast got so much wrong. That's what happens when you rely on outsiders acting as if they know what's going on.

It's such bullshit to fire someone for failing a drug test if their performance is not adversely affected... Shouldn't actual work performance count more than a piss stick? What people do outside of work is none of their employer's business... as long as it doesn't affect their work.

I don't know if you girls read the reviews but I will pitch in an idea for future episodes.this might not be your ideal topic , but as a family and personality I think Carol Shelby was quite interesting.the way he became famous was very much with modifying cars but the human side is also quite interesting. maybe you can look into it
