From Fader Magazine to NPR, Sai has been curating the music we listen to for years. She currently runs special projects at Sonos, overseeing programming for Sonos Radio and Sonos Sound System which means she basically DJs the DJs. Sai joins me to talk about how to playlist for a global audience, being goth, all things Barbra Streisand, and things that give us mental papercuts. This week's episode is one of my favorites. Political organizer Candice Fortin discusses how to remain strong and resilient in our activism. Candice works with Color of Change and is the Co-Founder of HAVEN Media, a safe space collective for BIPOC women. Her work is centered on equity and racial justice. I was super inspired by her. PLUS! I share my juiciest Natasha Lyonne story involving us going almost fisticuffs back in the day when we were both babies. Our first episode after a one-year COVID-19 hiatus features our very own producer, Samee Junio! Samee edits the wildly popular Forever35 and Let's Go Atsuko! podcasts, runs tech at Dynasty Typewriter in Los Angeles, and she executive produced Historical Roasts for Netflix. Samee and Aviva discuss an infinitesimal fraction about what sucked in 2020, fear hacks, white supremacy, a "Brazilian Bikini Baptism" and we've added two new segments to the show: a Speed Round and "Things I Like." We hope you enjoy a slow return to griping. Please subscribe to our Patreon to gain first access to new episodes, a weekly newsletter, discounts and exclusive content made especially for our patrons. Karla Welch is a Hollywood stylist who clocks Justin Beiber, Amy Poehler, Oprah Winfrey, Tracee Ellis Ross, American Ferrera and Olivia Wilde as clients. She’s been profiled in the New Yorker and Vogue and recently launched her styling app Wishi which is actually good, and she’s done collaborations with Levi’s and Hanes, the latter of which she modeled after her custom work for Beiber. You can buy her collections at xkarla.com. Creator of viral hit #ShitGirlsSay and host of the Criterinot podcast Graydon Sheppard visits the studio to talk Trypophobia, murder-y marsupials, haunted mountains, and to shit all over Grimace. Aviva reveals her celebrity crushes. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/everything-is-annoying/message
Meet legendary NYC nightlife entertainer Johnny Fava aka Russell Steinberg. We get into Soho House fuccbois, our fave shows Curb, #PUMPRULES and ROHNY, the latter of which his partner Sarah Sweeney is a cast member. We swap stories about how our Jewish mothers love nothing more than to talk about their wills. Just a couple of Jews trying to break into Hollywood! Russell also answers the burning question: is it worse to date someone who only takes selfies or raise a kid who only posts selfies? A hideous choice. David Cross is a legendary comedian who has been compared to George Carlin and Lenny Bruce. David and Aviva discuss pet peeves, being Jewish, David's comic heroes, cancel culture, his wife Amber Tamblyn and their annual holiday party hosted by Questlove. David has a surprise nominee for the Great Jewish Woman segment and Uncle Morrie is back with a *chefs kiss* voicemail at the end of the episode. We call that a “tag” in showbiz. In our pilot episode, Aviva talks to Amber Tamblyn and comedian John Roberts about what exactly shaves years off their lives, the evolution of comedy, coming out in the 80’s vs today, and Great Jewish Women. Welcome to Everything Is Annoying, a podcast for those who love to kibitz and kvetch. The people want gripes and we have them! This is a safe space to talk about the things that drive us absolutely insane. Instead of asking celebrities and creatives “How Did You Become Successful?” or “What’s Your Process?” host Aviva Yael gets to a universally relatable subject: things we can’t stand. These are the hills we will die on, no matter how irrational, idiosyncratic and obscure. I effin love this podcast, can't wait for more episodes! even if you're a goy (especially a Catholic riddled with guilt) Aviva is the approachable yenta you've been missing in your ear. From the (Cynthia) Nixon/Bagelgate scandal to any number of secular gripes, this podcast has the power to convert kvetching into comedy, a good strategy for dealing with the reality that yes, everything is annoying.
