EB 150: SEMINAR IN EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP
This course examines the primary tenets of contemporary leadership theory, constructs, models, and praxis. The focus is on executive level positions in both for-profit companies and non-profit organizations, including: presidents, chief executive officers (CEOs), senior vice-presidents, boards of directors, board chairs, and trustees. Typically, these individuals have expressed responsibilities for revenues, all levels of cost budgets, and profits (where applicable). In addition, these executives are focused primarily on the strategic positioning and mission of the organization, rather than daily operations.

Bil Esrey began his career in telecommunications in 1964 with AT&T. After becoming the youngest executive officer in the history of the company. In 1980, Esrey joined United Telecommunications as the executive vice president of corporate planning. In 1982, he became president of United Telecom Communications Inc., later named US Telecom. In 1985, Esrey was made president and CEO of United Telecommunications. In 1990, he became chairman of the company, which had now changed its name to Sprint. During his time in charge of Sprint, the company developed from a rural telephone company into a multi billion dollar international corporation. Esrey served as Chairman of the Board for Sprint and United Telecom from 1990 to May 2003. He received many honors and awards and Business Week named him one of the top 25 business leaders in the world.
Dr.David Newton, Professor of Entrepreneurial Finance, has been the head of the entrepreneurship program at Westmont College since 1990 and was the 2008 National Leavey Foundation winner for Excellence in Private Enterprise Education. Dr. Newton is the Founder of Westmont Small Business Barometer on California's Silicon Beach technology corridor and serves as its Managing Director. Dr. Newton has authored six books and over 160 articles and was formerly Contributing Editor at Industry Week Growing Companies (1998-2000) and Entrepreneur (2000-2005).
Dr. Gayle Beebe earned a bachelor's degree from George Fox University in Oregon. He holds master’s degrees in divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary, in philosophy of religion and theology from Claremont Graduate University, and in business administration in strategic management from the Drucker School at Claremont Graduate University. He completed his doctorate in philosophy of religion and theology from Claremont Graduate University in 1997. Prior to coming to Westmont, Beebe served as the president of Spring Arbor University in Spring Arbor, Michigan.

Andrew F. Puzder is chief executive of CKE Restaurants. He received his juris doctorate in 1978 from Washington University School of Law in St. Louis and is a member of the California, Nevada and Missouri bar associations, and has served as president and CEO of CKE since September 2000.
Puzder is the company spokesperson who appears as the official advertising announcer in commercials for West Coast-based Carl's Jr. and St. Louis, Missouri-based Hardee's, respectively. He was awarded PR News' 2005 Spokesperson of the Year.
